Shame and guilt are wonderful checks and balances.

You’re gonna shame people out of an addiction?

Preventative medicine? You know you don’t have to wait for someone to become obese or addicted to drugs or pornography before you try and promote healthy life habits.

This is essentially saying that people should be shamed for any indulgence at all in porn, fatty foods, or drugs, right? There is such a thing as moderation.

Yeah, if Trump did leak this anodyne part of his return himself, then Maddow played right into his hand.

I mean, I don’t usually like to feed into the “mastermind Trump playing 4D chess manipulating and distracting people” narrative, but this really couldn’t have gone better for him. I don’t really think it’s what happened, but it’s certainly possible this is his admin’s doing.

Well, the Maddow show was pretty lame any way you slice it.

Pretty frustrating honestly. I mean, it is a piece of a puzzle, but it doesn’t really tell us anything. The hoopla around it makes the whole venture seem like total bullshit. Now they’re going to say “look there isn’t anything bad there,” when the fact is that there wasn’t anything there to be able to determine if there was anything bad there.

The only interesting thing to come out of the whole thing was the White House response.

I appreciate that the fire department will come to my house if my house is on fire, and that bridges don’t fall down when I drive on them.

I’m with Frink. I like taxes, even though I don’t agree with the way that they’re being allocated.

Well okay but how do you feel about never ending monkey experiments and/or faceless Chuck-E-Cheese birthdays?

Well this is the first time it’s ever really caused problems. It’s not like we’re having sex, and even if we did other than those two nights out of three years she’s been an absolutely amazing friend and I’m not going to throw the relationship away just because she’s 40. While there may be some level of sexual attraction between us, she’s really more of a big sister. (As creepy as it is to say those two things back to back like that, but we’re not related)

Well I obviously don’t know the whole picture so I’m not trying to suggest you do anything beyond consider the worth of the relationship. It seems like in many ways it’s been a cause of stress and depression for you, before this incident even. If you think the benefits out weigh the costs then that’s perfectly okay but you need to ask yourself the question.

This isn’t the same person I was upset over several years ago if your referring to my heartbreak over an older woman several years ago that I’m sure I talked about here.

Huh.

Lots of older women in your life?

Today at work she was extremely apologetic and distraught and obviously felt terrible. She had mixed large doses of alcohol and taken double her dose of mood meds and she lost control. She didn’t even remember half the shit she said. I guess it all started because some of the cashiers were making fun of her for being a cougar (referring to how close we are with her being 17 years or so older than me, but I’m only 23 so it’s not like she’s an old lady) and when she got in that state all the sudden she retroactively got mad about it and for some reason lost the comprehension that they were just teasing and that nobody actually has malicious intent about it and because she was so out of her mind just started spouting ridiculous shit about her irrational feelings on it. Considering how she’s unwaveringly been there for me for three years, especially when I went through detox, I reluctantly told her I would forgive her and pretend it didn’t happen if she would quit drinking. She agreed. (somewhat hypocritical of me, but I never told anybody I wished they were dead when I got drunk)

It’s good to hear that things aren’t so hostile and that she’s tried to make amends.

But, beyond helping her get sober, I think you should seriously consider if this is a healthy relationship for you to be a part of.

I mean, it’s okay if you have a preference to a certain culture. It’s okay even if you say there are problematic elements to some cultures that aren’t in others. But when you start throwing words around like “superior” and suggesting that one culture should take over and the others should die out (which is what King was essentially suggesting), that’s where you got a real no no.

Saying one culture is definitively better than another is having a pretty cavalier attitude to the concept of culture in general. The importance of culture to peoples cannot be understated. When you say one culture is better than another, you are, in essence, saying one type of people is better than another type of people. You can’t separate the people from the culture. It doesn’t work like that. This is the root of prejudice and bigotry, no question. Suggesting any type of superiority of one culture over another is not going to get us anywhere good. Better to suggest nurturing of the good qualities of a culture or integrating it with another rather than a reckless, generalized dismissal. That’s what breeds hate.

There is literally no reason to believe that any higher ups would give a prerogative to “rehash” the original. “Because it will make more money” is bullshit.

JJ and Kasdan told the story they wanted to tell, which was a new version of an old tale for a new generation. Literally every bit of evidence points to the higher ups being very hands off. Disney doesn’t mess with their properties like that. They know that the best way to “make money” is to hire people who are going to make good content and leave them alone to do it.

If you don’t like the direction they took, fine. But don’t start making shit up to “explain” why they didn’t make the exact film you wanted them to make.

I prefer Victory Celebration for the music, but I really don’t like the shots of various planets celebrating. Realistically, I think that they’d be full blown riots, since there’s no way the Empire would allow celebrations of that scale without interfering. And we know that the Empire survived for at least a little while after ROTJ, albeit in a much weaker state, so it’s not as if the planets were fully liberated from Imperial control as soon as Death Star 2 blew up.

The cities I believe are warranted because in the 97 SE, there is only ONE planet that we haven’t seen but we can come to assume that in the vastness of this galaxy that it is a big city planet of great importance. And I’m looking at this through the eyes of only the OT. If you watch the full saga, this isn’t even an argument.

Which planet would that be? IIRC, we see both Coruscant and Naboo, neither of which appear in the OT.

Naboo didn’t show up until '04.

Personally I think the planet montage, beyond what you mentiond, is completely out of place and unnecessary. Music-wise, though I have a soft spot for Yub Nub (a damn catchy tune), Victory Celebration is obviously superior. Though personally I think ending the film with diegetic music and a big party was in general a little misguided.
