I like telling people it exists and then making it as clear as possible that they should never attempt to watch it.
I like telling people it exists and then making it as clear as possible that they should never attempt to watch it.
That’s what I just said.
Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but I had read that George Lucas apparently came on set one day while Ron Howard was filming and actually gave a little direction for Han. Apparently George said something like, “Why doesn’t Han just do this?”
For some reason, I really feel like this moment was when Han kicked the Kessel guard in the nuts. Maybe it originally was something more elaborate. They even have Qi’ra and Beckett acknowledge it by saying, “That was pretty good.” I’m probably wrong but that just felt like something George would’ve suggested.
Nope, during the scene in Lando’s closet Han drops the cape on the floor instead of hanging it up. It’s actually a really nicely done little beat by Alden and it’s very Han.
I don’t care that it’s part of a larger universe, I care that unless you followed the exact right part of that universe it makes zero sense, and that’s the case for a large majority of the people that watched this movie I’d bet.
Like I said earlier, Maul being resurrected in TCW makes zero sense too, so seeing the show only serves to let you have the “what the hell” reaction outside the theater. Saying they’re expecting you to have seen the cartoon isn’t really true.
Dude, I would never put the Ewok movies or the Holiday special above any canon entry. You should know me better. And I rank TLJ at least as high as TPM.
However, there is something true in what you wrote: if you don’t like R1, don’t bother watching Solo which is “less good” (or “worse”, depends ont the point of view).
Solo is better than RO, though the idea that if you don’t like one you won’t like the other is probably true.
I love how even now, three years later, people still act like saying TFA was unoriginal and a rehash of ANH is a total bombshell that will completely upend how people look at that movie. Like the similarities weren’t obvious to every single person the first time they saw the film.
I found that his inclusion is less nonsensical that the way that the hologram is able to show such highly saturated reds suddenly.
I keep hearing this, but aren’t the holograms in the OT more than just monochromatic?
One could argue him being resurrected in TCW is nonsensical.
I’m baffled how many people would sooner believe that Han Solo is 60 years old in ANH than believe Maul survived TPM.
Bradford Young is one of the best cinematographers working today and knows his shit pretty well. Lotta people don’t understand the craft and think just because some things are dark means it wasn’t “lit well.” That’s not how it works.
You can make the argument that he shouldn’t have lit the film in such a way that 70% of theaters won’t do justice to. Which is fair, but I think he has that right.
By the way, first time I saw it there were no issues and it looked fantastic. Last night I saw it at a shit theater and it did not look too great.
Nice, I knew there must be a reason I didn’t realize that was in the crawl. Damn Collipso.
I wouldn’t put either in the same league as Rey. Both have big problems. Cassian is better realized in general though his arc is weaker.
The characters in RO are somewhat weak overall, but I think that fact is overstated. Prequels don’t hold a candle in that regard, for instance.
In the absence of official confirmation, tongues were going to wag.
Of course, this is the internet after all. Always going to be someone complaining about something they know nothing about.
Glad they at least gave him an audition. Would have been silly not to even screen test him.
I never bought the claims that they didn’t, especially considering how thorough and extensive the search was.
If anyone was wondering what happened to internet fave Anthony Ingruber…

The kiss Han’s mentor got. Why? Seemed strangely intimate, but also casual and forced.
What.
It was weird in Star Wars. I don’t expect people to just casually French kiss.
You know people actually do that, right?
And people have sex, shit, and piss, but I don’t want it in Star Wars. Again, I just thought it was weird. It didn’t ruin the film for me.
This isn’t really a typical SW film though.
I suppose one could make the argument that “Lord” and “Darth” aren’t synonymous.
is it unreasonable to consider the post-Lucas era of Star Wars fan fiction?
Depends on your definition. If it was, a lot of modern media would be too. So much so as to render the label pointless.
what in modern media would be considered fan fiction? i mean, if a guy bought the rights to lotr and decided he’s the new tolkien and wrote a sequel to the book, i’m not sure if i’d consider it “official canon”. i know i don’t consider the 8th harry potter canon, for example.
I’d be here for a long time if I was listing everything. Even a lot of SW media made while Lucas was in charge would qualify.
Also, Harry Potter 8?
The Cursed Child, the play. it was released as the eighth harry potter story, iirc.
But wasn’t that co-written by Rowling?
I don’t know why Lucasfilm seemingly has no interest in such things. They must know we’d buy it. And this isn’t an OOT situation.
They want to maintain the illusion that everything is wholesome behind the scenes.
I don’t think so. The ship has sailed on this one for that.
My guess would be the same reason they didn’t want people to see that cut in theaters. Plus it invites people to second guess big decision making on the company’s part.

Overall, RJ took a few risks but didn’t go nearly far enough to get away from remixing elements of other SW movies.
So he should have made 90% of people hate it instead of 50% of people hate it?
Haha this is good.
My post was going to be
“So he could only make the creative decisions you wanted him to make, not the ones he wanted.”
Isn’t this a summary of most opinions? “I like this, I didn’t like that, and I wish they’d done this other thing instead.”
The logic behind your line of thinking is sound though, because TFA was applauded — and Disney commercially rewarded — for following the formula.

And if Darth is his title, why his he repeatedly referred to as “Lord Vader”?
Unless I’m forgetting something, no one ever refers to him as Lord Darth Vader.
tesb’s crawl
Dang
Vimeo is pretty popular. Though I get the point.
