Idea: If every Movie had a post credit scene
Time

Hmmm…well most post credit scenes serve to further the story rather than to distract from it. Adding Boba would be an error, imo. It brings in a distraction that is never resolved. As much as I’m supposing Hal’s are in jest, I actually really like the Yoda idea in relation to this concept. It serves as a teaser of things that actually will happen and be seen. Ultimately I’m not sure post credit scenes are appropriate for Star Wars movies.

Rogue One - Rescored (* unfinished project *)
Time

I think it really depends on how intensive the rescore is. There are parts of the score that work well and could be left as is. The real issues will arise when you are trying to rescore scenes with dialogue and/or with very loud music. Battle scenes are relatively ok if you can find the correct sound fx to fill in the lost sound. Does the new battlefront have a file folder with rogue one sound files? That would be a good start.

It’s a real pity there’s such a difference in Leia’s hairstyle during that deleted scene. In fact, I like that softer, ‘ponytailed’ look on her, and wish she’d had that throughout the majority of her scenes.

I think the real difference is her acting in this scene. This isn’t Leia we are seeing, it’s Carrie Fisher.

(speaking of discontinuity issues, anyone that ends up dispensing with the ‘Chewie/Nurse’ scene also gets rid of the fact that she is suddenly holding the gadget in her other hand)

This scene is integral to the edit. It explains why Han had to get a new jacket and shirt. That doctor stole them :p

I suppose they are akin to the Nazis of post WW1 Germany.

No. Not at all.

Here’s a good read about this.

JJ Abrams said:
“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams added. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could [Darth] Vader be a martyr?"

This is what my comment was a out. They aren’t the Empire. So rising again to power doesn’t make sense.

These are fanatics who admire the Empire but are definitely different. They existed before during and after the Empire. They just never made their move until the Empire crumbled. So yes, they are very much like the Nazis.

Sorry Hal. Just wanted to explain why I would think that line on the crawl wouldn’t work for me.

Star Wars: Heir to the Force (TFA edit) Released
Time

Thanks Hal, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch/listen to it. That was the intent of the effect. I did use a single MF turret sound and chopped it up to simulate the rapid fire you speak of. I recently found a better source for the turret sound and thought if others felt it sounded to much like an add-on that I’d revisit the sfx.

I’m really wanting to just release the thing. It’s been over 7 months since I posted that draft…I remember the first week when I thought it would be done within 2 weeks. HA!

I’ve migrated the project file to the new vegas 13 and it seems that it transferred successfully without a hiccup. I’m looking for some final feedback about the sound in this scene:

This is a draft from some time ago, but I’m mostly wanting feedback on the falcon’s turrets. Are they acceptable to your ears or should I do some modification to the sound? Specifically, do they need more variance and movement? Thanks!

Psssst… the Rathtar scene… give him the Rathtar scene too. 😉

HA! I’m not sure Hal wants to change that much of the movie from what I’ve read. I’ll be releasing soon so you can get your minuscule portion of rathtar elsewhere 😉

The hologram seems to be inline with these recent additions to the edit though.

lol, maybe the crawl should be mostly, “They’ve somehow built a hyperlightspeed weapon built within a planet itself. Not a laser canon, but something on a scale difficult to describe. Not another Death Star, but STARKILLER BASE. IT’S BIG.”

Nice to see that someone took out the cheers when they arrive. Hal, would you be interested in my Hologram Snoke for your edit? I also have Kylo hooded and helmeted in every scene that I use.

Star Wars: Heir to the Force (TFA edit) Released
Time

Haven’t posted in here in some time. New computer, new term, new amounts of no time to edit 😃

I did manage to throw this together though. I’ve never thought it a good choice to have Poe just show up during the Resistance X-Wing scene on Takodana, so I took him out. I utilized an unused scene from the trailers, rearranged other scenes that were removed when Poe flies around blasting Ties and added a bunch of sound fx to blend it together.

Here’s the video of the cut: https://vimeo.com/200529290

^interestingly enough, most of my sound editing I do directly in Sony Vegas. I’ve tried acid (the Sony program) and it just feels like Vegas. If I’m doing heavy processing with program specific plug ins I go audacity, but honestly most everything can be done in Vegas. I did some work for an editor over at fanedit.org and would be willing to help out if you give me time stamps of dialogue.

^good ideas. So the Star Destroyer is the one blowing up the transport in this idea? It still is kind of odd to me though. The shots of the incoming squadrons imply surprise attack. Doesn’t make sense that the Destroyer would be the one blowing up the transport. Ruins the element of surprise. That’s why I thought it might be best to have the ties do it. They could do this off screen and fly through the debris as you’ve suggested. Then it’s more of an ambush and full on assault.

Just an idea for this current focus. I’ve watched the eyes of the characters and they require some distant image as is produced, but I was wondering if you could add ties blowing up other ships. This is a destination like Mos Eisley. It would be believable that there would be air traffic going on. What if what they are looking at is the Star Destroyer and a fleet of ties blowing up some transport(s). This would validate their reactions and possibly smooth over the scene. You could even add laser blasts to the ties that are flying over Rey. Just a thought.
