The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!)
Time

Remeber though, the ambiguity of the Force is why we all love the Original Trilogy. I just assume that she learned it when she probed Ren’s mind. I also assume she was driven by the dark side, or heard Vader’s voice about giving into hatred to destroy Ren. I tried the overdub and really liked it, but it was too on the nose.
I look at it as she learned on the job. The very first force user learned the same way. If she is who I think she may be, it would make perfect sense.

In short, I think saying or showing too much is not the way to go.

Just my 2¢

TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

I watched the Snap scene and found it a little confusing visually. The first time through my eyes told me the old man was speaking, then the second time my eyes told me it was Han. as far as the mix, it seems like the voice is a little too upfront and needs a longer fade in and fade out to make it more seamless. Not sure this line is needed though, but I’m sure there is a logical reason 😛

Rogue One: The Battle of Scarif fan edit (Released)
Time

I totally agree with you. I was super excited when I heard he was taking over, but what we got was not his best. I hope they keep him for future films and allow him to have the time necessary to develop his trademark variations of our favorite themes. His Star Trek theme variation is one of my favorites. I mostly was disappointed with his Rogue One theme. I know it’s a variation of Luke’s hero theme, but it just feels off and almost amateur compared to his other stuff. It’s also used at odd times in the movie. The battle stuff was fine enough for me, it just needed a flare of the force theme or hints of the cues you used in your edit.

I know this version is all about accuracy, so are you planning to address scenes that have been horizontally flipped or the wrong hands used/contradicting placements? There are a fair amount of them.

I’m making some changes like that in my personal version that will be released later. Is there a list or something? I don’t know all of them.

No official list that I know of, but a few particular ones are the doctor’s hand when checking Chewbacca, Rey hiding from the Stormtroopers on Starkiller Base, the placement of characters when they are running up in the snow and Han introduces the idea to use the explosives, and Rey pointing on the Falcon and asking Finn to giver her an item. There are a few others, but I’d have to go look at the movie again.

…But I would love to see a version of this edit where Kylo wasn’t blatantly called out as Han’s son so early in the film. I feel it’s more powerful to be left at the end, just before the SKB fires.

I think there’s another edit that does this. For my own edit I was at least planning to remove direct mentions of the fact but you would still figure it out from Han and Leias conversations before the end.

My edit keeps his helmet on and parentage a mystery until the catwalk scene. Sorry, Hal, shameless plug 😉

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas thread...
Time

I get the idea here, but there are a couple of issues that need to be resolved for this to work. First, Scariff and Tatooine require some travel time. We need to perhaps see the Tantive IV in hyperspace. If someone could superimpose the tantive IV and a star destroyer over the Enterprise being shot at in warp by the Vengeance (ST:ID) that would help with the transition between the two planets. Second, the visuals are just too crisp in Rogue One. If this is an intended edit, the RO footage needs A LOT of grading to simulate a 70’s era film.

I know that many are conflicted over the Apocalypse Now Tie sunset shot. Here’s what I did for my edit https://youtu.be/w4CI0KSO9ic
I just did a color match and blend with another day shot and then tried to simulate what the sun looks like when it’s burning your retinas out. This shot is now a vertical descent rather than a horizontal approach.
