It's Investigavite, It's Ignorant, It's Idiotic, It's The News!!!!!
Time
OK so we've all seen it...sitting at home, watching (insert favorite prime time show here), and during the commercial, they run a promo for that nights newscast, and they mention The Investigative Report a "shocking" expose of the latest thing that could kill/harm you or your kids

"...they say 'an apple a day will keep the doctor away' but it might warrant a trip to the coroner, find out why at 11 with our investigative report APPLES: THE TOXIC FRUIT..." (yes, it was an actual newscast detailing the shocking discovery that apple seeds naturally contain trace amounts of cyanide)

99.9% of the time these reports are ludicrous, misinformed, and years out of date (a month ago, I saw a report about a 'new' drug that has "just hit the streets" called Ecstasy...i was doing Ecstasy back in high school over a decade ago!!!)

There are hundreds of examples, and more accumulate on a daily basis, and anyone that knows anything about the subject matter usually laughs their ass off at just how far off the mark these reports really are...

i'll start with this gem...

*hacking top-level security encrypted government databases can be done with just a few keystrokes...hell even children can do it!!!!!

*cell phones can be cloned & infiltrated by simply removing the sim card & copying it to a new device regardless of the age/style of the phone, cell phone brand, or service provider

...if only real life were this convenient

Well what about Kurt Cobain? Nirvana rocked, but no one really idolizes him.

Nirvana became internationally famous in 1992. Cobain died two years later. If he'd been around 5 more years or so, and had a couple more albums out, I think he'd qualify as a Lennon or Elvis.

exactly...the tragedy of Kurt Cobain is the lost potential...he was a good songwriter & was getting better

the impact of his suicide was not so much the loss of what was, but what could have been

every house has gas heat/stoves & the hero instinctively knows not only how to turn the whole house into a giant bomb, but also the exact amount of time it will take for the house to fill with gas, thus enabling him/her to use the appropriate makeshift fuse that is timed to blow up the housebomb at the precise moment that a) the villian(s) set foot inside, or b) the exact moment that one of the villians realize that the a trap has been set

Violence VS. Non-Violence ~~~ Debate
Time
evil is just a matter of opinion (as is 'good'), so a world with NO evil is just as impossible as a world with NO good.

it's all a matter of opinion

besides, 'good' & 'evil' have nothing to do with 'violence' or 'non-violence'

the 'evil' ones aren't always the ones to instigate violence...think of the Crusades, The Salem Witch Hunt, WWII (hey, the nazis thought they were the good guys...and if they had won that war, history would remember them as heros)

ok, Signs really didn't have a twist, but Unbreakable definately did...it was a weak twist, but it was a twist ending

more flicks:

F/X
Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Evil Dead II : Dead by Dawn (not a twist, but definately a surprise ending)

EW's 25 Worst Sequels Ever Made

...and speaking of Remo Williams, check out this article i found on AICN this morning...

Remember the 1985 movie called REMO WILLIAMS: THE ADVENTURE BEGINS?
It starred Fred Ward as a policeman who is apparently killed in action, but is actually resuscitated to become part of a group called "Cure". Cure, it turns out, is an organization of agents whose mission is to smack down bad guys who've either corrupted the criminal justice system, or are operating beyond its reach.
To accomplish this, Remo is trained in special tactics by a guy named Chuin (Joel Grey) - who forges him into a bad-ass, super-acrobatic assassin with ungodly reflexes and speed.
The film was based Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir's novel THE DESTROYER (which subsequently generated a series of books). It was directed by Guy Hamilton (a James Bond director who also came thisclose to helming SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE), and featured a pounding score from Craig Safan (who had the giddy audacity to use gun shots in a percussion motif!)
The lackluster movie was considered to be rather lite weight compared to Murphy and Sapir's source material. The books are known for their brutal dispatching of high-profile archetypes: An OJ-styled personality is killed by Remo with a golfball traveling at 500 mph; a Tarantino-esque director is fed into a projector head first; a Ronald Reagan personae is temporarily cured from Alzheimer’s and kidnapped. None of this biting relevance is evident in the 1985 movie adaptation. But now it looks like they're trying again...
Seems Robert Evans...yes...Robert Evans...has secured rights to THE DESTORYER. Film...TV...games...the works. Will Evans, who produced MARATHON MAN, BLACK SUNDAY, and CHINATOWN, give Remo his balls back by delivering a kick ass, socially satirical, hard-driving action fest? Or, will he be bludgeoned by the Robert Evans who gave us POPEYE, THE PHANTOM, or SLIVER?
In a marketplace already deluged with Bond, Bourne, and Bauer (ever notice how all of their initials are “JB”?), Remo will either fit right in, or simply be “too much”. This being said, there's some great source material to be finessed and caressed by approaching these books for what they are, rather than distilling them to their simplest, lowest common denominator components. It'll be quite interesting to see where THE DESTROYER goes from here.
Thanks to The Shinanju Apprentice for the heads-up about this, and for his examples of murder from Remoland.
