Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

That’s another issue. Abrams wasn’t actually familiar with the larger lore.

That makes me even more curious about intentionally drawing on them.

The First Order = Thrawn’s Imperial Remnant
The Sith Fleet = The Katana Fleet
Palpatine’s return via cloning = Dark Empire
Kylo Ren = Darth Caedus (his killing of Mara Jade would’ve been a much better reason for Luke’s self-exile, imo. Wonder if it still could be.)
Rey = Jaina, the “Sword of the Jedi” who defeats the fallen Solo…

The fact that all the references were unintentional is so mind boggling to me.

I’m cutting Ahsoka/Maul together with the first part of the Kenobi/Grevious fight but having trouble figuring out the best points to cut back and forth.

What I have atm is Kenobi standing in the rafters staring down at Grevious right as Ahsoka walks into the Mandalorian throne room, but after that, not sure…

Well there’s a tricky thing there because the very next scene after the first part of Grievous vs. Obi-Wan is the conference room scene that is replicated shot by shot in “Shattered”. So that conversation between Mace, Yoda, Ki-Adi etc. happens the morning after Maul’s defeat and capture.

If you go that route, you could maybe end the first part of Utapau right before Obi-Wan gets the varactyl and sets off to find Grievous, then the Ahsoka/Maul fight, then the Grievous/Obi-Wan fight.

You could end up with a timeline like this.

 • Maul runs from Ahsoka in the undercity.
 • Kashyyyk and Council scene. Kenobi appointed to Utapau.
 • Obi-Wan says goodbye to Anakin.
 • Obi-Wan contacts Ahsoka.
 • Jesse’s interrogation and Maul rallies the Shadow Collective.
 • Obi-Wan gives instructions to Cody and leaves for Utapau.
 • Padmé and Anakin apartment scene.
 • Maul vs Ahsoka / Obi-Wan arrives on Utapau and fights Grievous.
 • Maul is captured (end of Phantom Apprentice) and brought to Bo-Katan (beginning of Shattered).
 • Hologram briefing scene.

The sequence of RotS events is slightly different since I’m using the New Canon Cut so currently we have:

-Council meeting about Grevious on Utapau
-Ahsoka checks in with Obi-Wan
-Padme and the senators discuss a Jedi deleted scene
-Anakin and Obi-Wan part ways
-Jesse’s interrogation and Maul rallies the Shadow Collective.
-Obi-Wan gives instructions to Cody and leaves for Utapau.
-Deleted scene where Padme and the senators bring up their concerns to Palpatine
-Padme and Anakin discuss his nightmare
-Maul vs Ahsoka / Obi-Wan arrives on Utapau and fights Grievous.
-Maul is Captured
-Maul is brought to Bo-Katan, Rex tells Ahsoka the council is awaiting her report
-Mace tells Anakin to brief Palpatine on Kenobi’s engagement
-Ahsoka joins the final Jedi War Counci

I’m willing to play with this sequence somewhat, but I really like how the order of the NCC scenes establishes Anakin and Padme’s relationship as still intact.

The issue I’m having is finding the exact points to intercut Kenobi/Grevious and Ahsoka/Maul

I don’t know if you have this considered but I believe it would be great to have the “Padmé’s ruminations” scene from Episode III placed next to the beginning of that long sequence of Shattered where Ahsoka and the 501st depart Mandalore with Maul and board the Venator. Both scenes convey a similar feeling with both having a dark score that deviates from the classic orchestral Williams pieces.

Williams did actually write more music that has this ominous sound to it, but a lot of it got replaced.

I currently have:
-the Departure from Mandalore through the ship going into hyperspace
-Padme’s ruminations, with the last shot of Padme/3PO replaced with Ahsoka
-Rex asks Ahsoka what is on her mind and Rex is called away for new orders
-Anakin gets in the Jedi speeder
-Mace vs Sidious
-Ahsoka senses Anakin’s fall in realtime.

The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)
Time

A question about the use of the fleet came up a few pages ago, and I’m wondering if there are any thoughts around trying to make it clear it is just an old Imperial/Sith fleet that got squirrelled away like the Katana fleet in legends?

(In general I’m annoyed they borrowed so many elements from the Post-RotJ Legends material, but so haphazardly done.)

I personally really like Rey killed her parents, it is narratively stronger, ties into her “killing” Chewie, and makes her waiting for them for years extra tragic.

Another question I had that may have been answered somewhere in the thread is:
is anything being done about Rey using a broken lightsaber like it’s no big deal? I saw a bit ago folks were discussing adding an instability to Anakin’s saber to make it clear it isn’t just magically fixed after being shattered, but was anything decided?

I had been really hoping that in RoS we’d see Rey using her new lightsaber, instead of only seeing it briefly at the very end. A thought I had would be digitally replacing the saber so it is actually Luke’s lightsaber (therefore allowing Rey’s “I will become worthy of your brother’s lightsaber” line to actually make sense) or making it her yellow lightsaber and just cut the handing it back and forth to Leia silliness

The Jedi, the Empire, and what the hell they know on Tatooine?
Time

It just strikes me as odd when Vader is not the only active DS force user working for the Empire, as late as 5-4 bby the Inquisitorius was working with other Imperial outfits to fight the Rebels.

And even before the PT happened, when I had only seen the OT, it always struck me as odd that any Imperial would have the gall to speak to Vader, who I presumed was known to be the Emperor’s second, so brazenly. I know a lot of things changed behind the scenes from Star Wars to ESB, but this has always irked me.

That’s helpful in regards to Luke, sorta. The imperial rewrite of history explains a lot, but I still have misgivings about how all this actually plays out.

Regarding Tarkin, it makes sense he would know, but I was referring to the other guy in the council room who tries to goad Vader about the Death Star being better than the Force and his “sad devotion to that ancient religion” This line implies that he considers Vader as somehow connected to the “Jedi”, if anything wouldn’t he think of Vader as Sith?

Revenge of the Sith (The New Canon Cut) [ON HOLD INDEFINITELY]

The Clone Wars finale does have me wondering if it’s worth it to alter Ayla Secura’s death somehow? Her’s has always felt the weakest of the ones in the montage, and with Ahsoka’s Order 66 survival in the canon now, Ayla’s death feels even worse now. It would probably throw off the rythm of the music, but if her death could happen even faster with less time for her to realise what was going on, it might help.

So I’ve been thinking about Episode IV and how the details it gives us work when in the same universe as Episode III and the post-Order 66 Imperial understanding of the Jedi.

When Luke is talking to Obi-Wan, setting aside the things Kenobi says that are outright lies, he casually mentions having been a Jedi and having fought in the Clone Wars. Now, I could understand him telling Luke he fought in the Clone Wars, that could be super innocuous. But why would he casually throw out he was a Jedi? And that Luke’s dad had been? The Jedi were outlawed and declared traitors, even on the Outer Rim people knew that as early as 14 BBY, it makes no sense to me that Luke wouldn’t immediately be suspicious of Kenobi from that point, instead of treating him like a hero.

I was wondering if there is a canonical explanation for this, or if it is just an issue of one story coming later than another.

Similarly, how do the other Imperials know Darth Vader had been a Jedi?

It’s wild to me how many people started intercuttung SoM and RotS with complete disregard for the show’s points of interconnection. There’s so many videos on youtube billed as “SoM/RotS at the same time” and they keep confusing me when I see them because many if them are phenomenally made, except that they keep pairing the Maul/Ahsoka duel with RoTS moments that explicitly happen before…

Anyway,

I’m cutting Ahsoka/Maul together with the first part of the Kenobi/Grevious fight but having trouble figuring out the best points to cut back and forth.

If you’re using New Canon Cut, why not use it for the Dooku beheading?

Palpatine still mouthing words he isn’t saying aside, the shots in your clip go by too fast and Anakin actually still looks regretful. I also don’t agree that Anakin would be that casual about killing Dooku. He hates Dooku. In NCC, he’s not apologizing for killing Dooku but how and why he did it. Palpatine then reassures him it doesn’t matter anyway, it’ll bring a quick end to things, which is more in line with how Anakin would justify it.

I probably should have clarified on that one that I edited that from an old version, and it’s just kinda a very brief test to see if I even like the idea.

As for how Anakin would react to killing Dooku, I think that in TCW he does a lot of casual executions, the two sticking out in my mind rn are the Mandalorian senator in S2 and admiral trench. I don’t really see why Dooku would be so different just cus Anakin hated him? I’m gonna play around with it, though for the most part this is about combining the end of Ahsoka & Anakin’s Clone Wars journeys.

And any actual changes I make to RotS will be from the bluray, but by and large I’m happy with what you’ve put out so far, only using the workprint to try out my Clone Wars intercuts.

Revenge of the Sith: Refocused - a Clone Wars: Refocused Companion Edit (v3.03 Available now)
Time

Four hours is a long time, I might check it out to see what’s been done, but in addition to the runtime, I can’t really see myself enjoying it as long as it uses a plain extended RotS. Anakin’s gonna feel all over the place in terms of characterisation.

Anyway, here’s the promised clips. I’ll update the main post later.

Pass for all: fanedit

Opening with new crawl, temp music replacement for narrator lines
https://vimeo.com/414966830

You can see the first “Day” title card. Five will appear throughout.

“You’ve done well Anakin” (this is a very rough edit, just to see if I even like the concept(
https://vimeo.com/414993033

I wpuld like to see Anakin to treat killing Dooku the way he treats all the casual murders he commits in TCW, it’s just a thing he did, and he moves on.

Ahsoka fights on Mandalore while Anakin is Late
https://vimeo.com/414994185

“What have I done?”
https://vimeo.com/414993081

Trying out not seeing Anakin see “What have I done”, only Ahsoka hearing Lanter’s Anakin say it. Also trying Palpatine and Ahsoka saying “anakin” at the same time.

Labyrinth of Evil Ending with Ahsoka & Vader: (taking suggestions on rescoring the Luke hand off to flow better with the Vader finale.)
https://vimeo.com/414975128

These are all first or second passes, so keep that in mind.

What if the Fallen Order - Order 66 scene took place on Ahsoka’s ship?

I think it has some potential with some more fine tuning.

I’m not necessarily opposed to incorporating FO footage, my caveat is that if these Jedi were on her ship, people are gonna wonder how the hell they never spoke and why they didn’t try harder to team up.

Might you be willing to share a rough list of how you incorporated the last fourth of SoM? I don’t want to necessarily steal your ideas, just see if they might spark my own.

Delpheas, if you need any specific raw materials or audio from New Canon Cut, just ask. Don’t wait for my final version. Try not to use my shitty in-progress workprint lmao

Lol, only using the workprint as a base to begin figuring out scene placement, timing and the like. Definitely will ask if/when I feel like I need anything. But I definitely want to wait for you to feel like you’ve got a final version. Like, maybe I’ll make a workptint using your workprint, but nothing beyond that.

Regarding the pacing of the finale, I definitely agree. Especially in the last episode it is really really strong and doesn’t need to be edited together with anything. The finale (and all of season 7 imo) is definitely worth a watch.

And this shouldn’t necessarily be viewed as an attempt at a replacement, stylistically I’m ignoring a few traditional Star Wars tropes, so I’m viewing this as simply an alternate way to watch NCC and SoM, not a replacement in and of itself. As for rescoring RotS, I’m not opposed, but I haven’t played around with the final episodes yet.

A question I had was, since this edit will be using three very visually different sources, would it feel horrible and out of place to use some of the deleted Order 66 animatics?
