This is why I think cutting the back and forth with the saber, along with Rey’s line about earning it, makes sense. She’s been using the lightsaber for a movie and a half already, I never got why suddenly she had to earn it. If I remember correctly in the novelization she even toyed around with building her own saber while rebuilding Anakin’s, the fact that she settled on just using the rebuilt Skywalker saber implies it is her own saber she feels unworthy of, not the legacy one.

Would that recontexualised TLJ include Luke vs Kylo? Cus it seems that would have to go, and have the climax be Rey & redeemed Ben killing Palpatine, followed by an edited Tatooine epilogue with Ben staying there in exile.

Yeah, I think they need to have just sold her, Palpatine shouldn’t be involved in that at all. Makes more sense imo.

Why shouldn’t Luke attack with Obi Wan’s blade?
After all, Obi wan and Yoda ask him to fight Vader and Luke dropping the saber would conclude this conflict well.

On the other hand: what would be the motivation for Vader to fight with the very weapon that made him the machine he is?
Is it him holding on to the though of himself as irredeemable?

It’s because the teaser poster was really cool, and people want to make recreations of that.

Exactly because of the poster, but also because thematically it teases Luke’s near turn to the dark side and later failure as a teacher, as well as Anakin’s return to kill Vader and Sidious.

You and skenera put out some really cool shots of Coruscant that would be great for this.

Since the Mustafar stuff is such short scenes anyway, could that Coruscant concept art somehow be used to replace the mustafar scenery? So after staring at the Jedi temple from that cool ass mothership and possiblly communing with the broken vader mask, we get a shot of Kylo walking into the temple, it’s in ruins of course, and find the wayfinder there.

If so, it would be, along with making Ajin Kloss into Naboo, a great way to give the worldbuilding of the prequels an actual presence and help further establish the idea that this film is an ending to the previous 8 movies, not just the previous 5.

That was my one of biggest issues with TRoS, after JJ talked about it being an ending to the whole saga, to everything that came before, there was almost nothing in the film that recognisably tied it to the PT. No Anakin ghost (fixed thanks to jonh, amazing work btw), no recognisable PT planets, the only thing we got was the blink and you miss it communing with the jedi scene where I couldn’t hear who was talking to Rey in the theater.

I agree. I think there needed to be something more going on with SKB to justify its existence besides a cheap ripoff of an old, failed plot device.

Having it be somehow connected to Palpatine’s return is an interesting idea I would love to executed.

I remember watching RotS the first time and being really disappointed that we didn’t hear or see Obi-Wan’s message warning Jedi away from Coruscant.

I was really happy that we finally saw it in Rebels.

I would love to see a montage of Jedi survivors watching the recording and going into hiding afterwards. Probably during the epilogue montage, after Padme’s Funeral/Vader stares at the Death Star, insert shots of Jedi in ships, hiding on battlefields, etc… either hearing the message or watching the holorecording.

I think it adds to the tragedy that in addition to those who died, we get survivors who have to go to ground and leave being a Jedi behind them forever.

end sarcasm But really though, it is beyond mind boggling that the story of Ben’s fall and the creation of his alternate persona was told exclusively in a comic. Just as bad as having Palpatine’s announcement of revenge in “fortnite”

Officially RotS has always taken place over 6 days (10 now, but that’s only to expand on how much happens during the montage epilogues)

Day 1: Battle of Yerbaba, Palpatine’s Rescue, Battle of Mandalore

Day 2: More Battle of Mandalore, Political maneuvering on Coruscant,
Anakin is appointed to the council
Anakin meets Palpatine at the Opera where he learns grevious is on utapau

Day 3: Obi-wan heads to Utapau,
Maul is captured.

Day 4: Obi-Wan kills Grevious, Anakin’s Fall and Order 66

Day 5: Empire Day, Palpatine declares his new empire, Obi-Wan vs Vader

Day 6: The twins are born, the decision is made to go into hiding

Day 7-10: Yoda and Obi-Wan head off for their new assignments, Ahsoka and Rex go into hiding, Vader gets up to shit, Padme’s funeral happens, Vader does more shit, Vader and Sidious stare at the death star

Within the next year:
Vader finds Ahsoka’s lightsaber(s) at the venator crash site, she is removed from the list of Jedi survivors.

I think someone was working on it, not sure if anything was finalised.

The saber ignition switch seems natural, basically unnoticeable unless you’re looking for it.

And the JAT line does sound better pitched down and without the please. I also didn’t know it was a JAT line, I thought it was some Ewan line sourced from somewhere.

I personally thought that her never grieving Ben was a result of them changing the ending from ben lives to ben dies shortly before release.

It can be pretty cool though to know from the getgo that the hero isn’t going to be Yet Another Straight White Man, so many series get announced with that and the default a clarification is appreciated imo.

Plot details will come, and then we can decide whether or not to be mad.

I would add The Clone Wars S7 5-8 as well, as it gives some perspective on an important characters time away from the Jedi before RotS happens.

In Resistance they do actually talk about the relationship between the Resistance, First Order, and everyone else a fair bit.

Having Palpatine have no plan for Rey would be nice because it would show him falling into the same trap the Jedi are guilty of, letting their arrogance and belief in their own power prevent them from seeing what is on the horizon.

Leia dying on Naboo is a great idea, as it allows her to end where her mother started. Make this movie rhyme with the others as much as possible. It is the last after all.

And any version that is meant to include Padme surviving RotS and dying while Leia is a young child, should absolutely consider giving Leia the pendent.

Ben in exile is a great idea, and one that could probably be executed, but without dialogue between him and Rey where he says something like "I’m staying here. It is my penance.’ It could be quite a head scratcher.

I think the silent nodding in the workprint is fine as is, though this isn’t bad either.

If you weren’t trying to keep this scene and the war council from being redundant/contradicting clone wars, what would you keep or change?

Absolutely, will refrain from further discussion. I only asked cus it was an editing pattern I was noticing that as snooker said is “yikes” and this seemed the only thread even remotely like a place to bring it up.

The setup could still be used though, even if there isn’t any explicit payoff. Just cutting the flirting/longing looks with Jannah and the other girl would help a lot imo.

What are people’s thoughts on the lesbian kiss at the end? I’ve seen a number of edit lists that cut it, usually because it is “pandering” or cutting it makes it “wholesome” somehow.
Is it a majority opinion that it should go?

Okay, so here’s the clip from when I was working on “Last of the Jedi” many years ago. I may get back to the project eventually, if I do it would hopefully be better, I had done a lot of the editing of the film before I had Vegas so it wasn’t great. So I’m not actually proud of it. 😕

Also I was running out of harddrive space before I finally upgraded, and I exported the whole film to 480p mpeg to to cut the file size…

But as it is, it does show that making Luke kill Fett can work.

I agree. That scene alone would have made me happier with the rest of the film even as is.

• Rey on the Falcon at the end,
• with her friends with her playing chess
• And 3PO’s memory remains wiped

Can we add something to the final falcon scene around R2 telling 3PO the whole story as a callback to GL’s original idea of the saga being a story that was being told to someone who was unfamiliar with it?

I love the “Ben goes into Exile” idea. I think that is a much stronger button on the story than “he’s dead and that’s it I guess”

Even though the majority swung away from my vote on a few places, I would be perfectly happy with an exit that incorporated all the majority and consensus votes.

Edit: I would love to see something like this for all 9 (11) films. Questions could be in the vein of finding out what changes people prefer for saga cohesion. i.e. Do people prefer trying to make the PT completely conform to the impressions given in the OT or do we lean towards a balanced nip and tuck to clear away most inconsistencies.
