Raiders of the Lost Ark HDTV 35mm LPP regrade

With that said, you make it sound like scanning from the negative is a BAD thing. Would you think so?

I’m not exactly sure how theatrical prints would have better contrast than the negative itself.

As far as I know, the negatives were never meant to be seen when these films were made and released (before the digital projection era, that is). The wide release of any film was going to be on a third or fourth generation 35mm print, with a limited release on 70mm prints (which, while holding some more detail than 35mm prints due to larger film, would still suffer generational loss).

Also, because it was something that couldn’t be worked around back then, generational grain and contrast was sometimes used to the advantage of the filmmakers; for example, to cover up special effects.

Take a look at this shot comparison:

35mm:

WOWOW (HDTV):

Notice how obvious the matted background is in the HDTV version, compared to the properly lit print image.

EDIT: Sorry to butt in here, haha 😄.

Deep Space Nine turned from being episodic to serialized, but I would prefer episodic.

If it has plenty of standalone episodes which don’t tie into the main story arc, then it ain’t serialized. DS9 had plenty of standalone episodes.

they had plenty of standalone episodes in the early seasons, but once the they got to the war with the dominion, it became serialized.

I wouldn’t say the entire show was serialized. There was a progressing story arc, but most of the episodes (even in seasons six and seven) were contained plots. Remember the baseball episode?

New details on Discovery. Set 10 years before TOS!

yeah, I got a bad feeling about that show. I think it is a mistake to have it in the original universe.

  1. that universe no longer exists due to the events in Star Trek 09. Therefore, they are technically doing a whole series that never happened.

That’s like telling someone they shouldn’t watch TNG because it never happened according to the J-brams films. The original universe still exists. That’s why the current film series timeline was given a specified name. There are two alternate timelines existing in ST cannon.

EDIT: I guess I typed to slow…

The imperialscum "Furiously Doing His Taxes" Thread
Time

I’ve always pictured impscum as a character act. Like when Frink had his Ric Olie sock, only it’s the one account he has. He acts the way he does on here to play that character, which gathers him attention. He probably throws in his actual opinions, but most likely blows it up to 100 and makes his ego bigger in the process.

Or he could just be like you guys say, I don’t really know.
