The executive order on immigration was rash and not thought through before signing. When the news first came out, I incorrectly assumed that it would only impact new immigrants. But it affects people who already have visas. My company (a large tech company) has at least 70 different employees and/or their families that are affected by this executive order. At least we’re able to provide legal assistance to them. I feel for anyone who has a legal visa to be in the US but who has been detained or might get detained in the near future.

Fuck Trump.

This is what I mean, Dek. Trump’s thought process is irrelevant.

My point was that I don’t know if he considered the various consequences or not, and yes his thought process on the matter is relevant, considering that it’s what we are discussing. That specific order I think was a bad move and he probably didn’t think it through like he should have. It raises concern, but other than that I’m not sure how to describe my reaction.

I don’t recall what I thought about the executive orders, but what I do know is that I didn’t like what he was doing, so I can only imagine that I wasn’t too happy about all of his executive orders.

and yet you’re okay with Trump doing everything via executive order?

Most of the ones he is issuing are things that I think need to be done. He practically undid the Obama legacy in a week, and I;m fine with that.

So it ok a President to do things via executive order instead of going through Congress, as long he/she is doing something you agree with?

Did I ever say that I morally disagree with Obama’s use of executive orders?

Dek, you are missing the point of both my questions, and I can’t tell if you’re doing it deliberately or not, but either way I give up.

What do you mean? I don’t remember if I complained about his use of executive orders, and I don’t know what Trump is thinking, so I can hardly answer either question.

Lets put it this way: If you complained about Obama’s use of executive orders instead of going through Congress, but have no problem with Trump’s use of executive orders instead of going through Congress, you are a hypocrite.

Ya think I don’t know what he’s getting at? I said I don’t remember what I thought of it, probably because it didn’t matter that much.

I’m liking most everything else he’s doing and he’s just fulfilling more campaign promises by issuing the ban.

Do you know what would be nice? If he would put some thought into these things before doing them. Leaving aside whether or not you agree with his executive orders, he’s just throwing them all out there without any consultation or consideration for the effects, and no one knows what the hell is going on. Confusion and chaos.

Dek, I noticed you ignore this. You like the “what” that he’s doing, can you defend the “how?”

I didn’t ignore it. I just didn’t respond to it. I don’t have anything to say on that matter, because I have no way of knowing how he came to his decisions (unless he actually took the time to fully explain everything in an interview or something).

Not the how of how he came to decisions, the how of how he’s making policy without any thought to the effects.

Like I was trying to say, I don’t have any thoughts on it because I don’t know what he’s thinking.

Also, were you one of those people who complained about Emperor Obama overreaching with executive orders?

I don’t recall what I thought about the executive orders, but what I do know is that I didn’t like what he was doing, so I can only imagine that I wasn’t too happy about all of his executive orders.

I guess it’s hard to govern when you can’t see anything past “lock her up” or “build that wall” or “drill baby drill.”

Fucking yeah I forgot he’s going forward with that pipeline. What a grade A asshole he is.

We need the pipeline. A lot. It should have been built already.

No, we need to be putting our resources towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly sources of energy (and not building a pipeline through sacred sites).

That pipeline is not touching any sacred sites.

Well are we talking about Keystone?

From the pipeline permit: http://puc.sd.gov/commission/dockets/hydrocarbonpipeline/2009/hp09-001/application.pdf (pg.95)

Construction and operation of the Project can potentially affect NRHP eligible sites. These can include prehistoric or historic archaeological sites, districts, buildings, structures, objects, and locations with traditional cultural value to Native Americans or other groups. Project impacts can include: the physical disturbance during construction of archaeological sites located within the construction ROW; the demolition, removal, or alteration of historic or architecturally significant structures/features; and the introduction of visual or audible elements (e.g., pump stations) that can alter a site’s setting.

Or Dakota Access? Because that’s mostly about the environmental effects on the Standing Rock reservation. The matter of “is it a burial ground or not comes up” a lot, but I think I would refer to what the indigenous people are saying about that before the contractors.

“Archaeologists come in who are taught from a colonial structure, and they have the audacity to interpret how our people were buried. How would they even know?”

source: http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/01/us/standing-rock-sioux-sacred-land-dakota-pipeline/

I was mostly thinking about Dakota Access.

The idiots who’ve been protesting it don’t even know what they’re talking about, and they trespassed on private property to do so.

Trespassing, that’s funny. That was all Native land before we stole it.

Get off your high horse. It was land that was at one point occupied by native peoples of this continent, but not anymore, so it’s a moot point. If you feel so strongly about it why don’t you leave your house and move back to Europe.

And I suppose you don’t realize that oil is an important resource that is necessary despite it’s environmental affects. And I also suppose that you haven’t heard about the trouble the oil companies have been having without that pipeline.

I am well aware of the current importance of oil and the trouble we’ve had. All the more reason we need to stop relying on it and start looking for more sustainable sources of energy.

Like I said, we can’t just “stop relying on it.”

^AFAIK Trump is right at that. I recall that Christian refugees rarely make it to the U.S. because they are driven out and murdered by Muslims.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/01/christians-refugees-trump/514820/

The announcement was met with immediate backlash from leaders of nearly every Christian denomination, along with those of other faiths. They argue that Trump’s actions do not reflect the teachings of the Bible, nor the traditions of the United States, and they have urged the president to let them get back to work—many of the country’s most prominent refugee resettlement organizations are faith-based.

“Christ calls us to care for everyone, regardless of who they are and where they come from,” said Jenny Yang, the senior vice president of advocacy and policy at World Relief, the arm of the National Association of Evangelicals that provides refugee and immigration resettlement services. “That has to be a core part of our witness—not just caring for our own, but caring for others as well.”

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the official body of the Church in America, also declared that it “strongly opposes” Trump’s executive orders. “We believe in assisting all those who are vulnerable and fleeing persecution, regardless of their religion,” said Bishop Joe Vásquez of Austin, Texas, in a statement. “This includes Christians, as well as Yazidis and Shia Muslims from Syria, Rohingyas from Burma, and other religious minorities. However, we need to protect all our brothers and sisters of all faiths, including Muslims.”

I was saying that think Trump is correct on the statement that Christians are persecuted in those areas. I didn’t say I agreed with the complete ban.

As it stands, I’m not too broken up about it, though. I do think that there is reason for concern about Islamic terrorists coming into the U.S. On the other hand, this could just make terrorist groups (and the countries themselves) more hostile. It’s hard to say if there will ever be a good way of dealing with this problem.

I’m liking most everything else he’s doing and he’s just fulfilling more campaign promises by issuing the ban.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (2001) – ★★★1/2

I think it was lacking somewhat in comparison to the series that preceded it. The amazing music as present in the series was used much more sparsely here, most of the music present being pop/rock songs without the hyper-active jazz feel.

The plot seemed like it was trying too hard to be bigger and grander for a feature film presentation, but it felt very weird in the context of the series, though I’m glad it was all explained properly by the end of it.

The animation and cinematography was just as, if not more fantastic than in the series.

A great watch, over all.

I just like how Trump says we have to learn the lessons of 9/11 and proceeds to ban people from countries that had nothing to do with 9/11 while not banning people from countries that did.

So, if we were to learn things from the occurrences in the Cold War, such lessons would only be applicable to another conflict with Russia?

It’s hilarious to me how absolutely terrible Trump is at being the President of America. We’d have had better luck electing a small child. I mean, we did, because he’s a massive baby and has the same attention span, but I mean an actual small child.

Don’t forget his tiny hands.

Making fun of someone for their appearance rather than content of character.

It is this kind of crap from the right wingers here that pisses me off.

It pisses you off that I wanted to see how many times I would be called a sexist, fat-shaming bigot for posting that image? And I was called a piece of shit, so the Trump haters here seem to be as predictably insulting as ever. Experiment successful, I guess.

Aw poor Dek can’t handle a little teeny insult. Do you need a safe space?

When… did I ever say that my feelings were hurt?

Can’t you handle it when I point out your own hypocrisy?

Ridiculous. And do you not consider comparing an overweight person to a whale insulting? The hypocrisy.

I would consider the joke insulting to the women in question. It’s still funny, because of context.

I’m going to post a picture of Hitler murdering Jews just to prove how hateful you guys are by calling me out on it. Also because I think Hitler murdering Jews is funny.

And you are now equating laughing at the horrible deaths of millions of people to laughing at a cheesy joke about the internet war of Trump/supporters vs. an unfunny comedian and a person who Trump disliked for actual reasons.
