Info Wanted: Raiders of the Lost Ark - is there a version with original color timing?
Time

There very much was DNR applied to the BD transfer. It isn’t waxified, but the WOWOW broadcast version (compression artifacts and all) has more visible detail than the BD in some scenes, and vice versa in some others. The image isn’t totally destroyed by DNR, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t use more of it than they should.

None of that even matters when trying to determine if the BD is any good, because IMO nothing compares to the awful digital changes made to the BD transfer.

That print scan was not graded to match any DVD. The scan was corrected using a projected 8mm print. But, it does not have what one might consider the “correct” color timing.

Having looked at another scan of an original print that is closer to the Blu-ray color-wise, I’ll say that the Blu-ray looks like an honest attempt to match the original look, but a poorly executed one. The overzealous, pervasive orange tinting with bad color separation and dulled highlight dynamics kill it in my opinion.

Adding some warmth and lowering the contrast a bit on the 35mm scan that’s out there now would probably be more authentic.

Apologies. Hadn’t seen your post. As this project is ongoing, would you advise opening a new thread?

Pretty sure he’s just quoting what was said in Hulot’s FanRes thread. This thread here clearly isn’t locked. 😉

I’ve only ever played Colors and a bit Sonic 1 on mobile, lol.

The former had a killer soundtrack, though. I should give Unleashed a try, but I’ve never felt the drive since to actively go through the trouble of playing a Sonic game. Not my thing, I guess? I mean, I enjoyed Colors, but I guess not enough to seek out more.

I don’t like Colors or Unleashed. Or Generations, or really hardly anything released in the past fifteen years.

1, 2, 3&K, CD, and Adventure 1 are the greats IMO. Adventure 2 is good, but not as good as its predecessor, and Heroes is a mixed bag. I guess I like Riders. Mania is weird because it’s great, but it also feels strangely mediocre for me. Part of it is definitely the lack of originality (only four are entirely new stages, while the rest are re-imaginings of old ones).

Yeah. Either this thread or another one. I’m leaning towards this one to make it a catch-all.

Personally, I really don’t get the appeal of the Beatles, and to a lesser extent Queen.

Also 99% of hip hop is just bad. I don’t like hip hop. Just these annoying, repetitive snares and monotone vocals with the most needlessly crude lyrics imaginable. Yay, you do drugs and have been to prison! Are you proud of yourself?

I’d equally recommend Queen I. It’s a great album. I used to listen to The Beatles all the time as a teenager. Now I’m more into George Harrison’s solo work. I especially love his albums Somewhere in England, All Things Must Pass, and self titled George Harrison.

Another underrated band I see never talked about is Supertramp. I highly recommend their album A Soapbox Opera.

Love Supertramp myself, Even in the Quietest Moments has to be a favorite of mine.

I’m into more intense music, though. Anyone like the song Golden Liar? Here’s a taste of the sorta rock I like.

I’m sure you’ve heard the Beatles heavier stuff then, like Helter Skelter and whatnot. But definitely check out early Queen. I’ll leave you some links here just for the heck of it. This one has one of my favorite melodies from the Beatles. Here is a Queen song from A Night at the Opera that I could imagine you’ll enjoy. I’d also recommend checking out Rush and Styx if you haven’t already.

The playlist you posted has a couple Sonic tracks, but not the best Sonic vocal track. 😉

Speaking of Sonic (and I’ve just posted about the movie in another thread, lol), I hope video games aren’t outside the realm of this thread either. I like to live dangerously, so why not. I like Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 more than Sonic 3/& Knuckles. I also don’t think Sonic Mania can truly match up to any of the original games.

Fair enough, I’ll agree to disagree; though I can’t help but feel like the movie would’ve worked better (for me, anyway) grounded in Sonic’s world rather than Earth. In fact a friend was telling me that the post credits scenes suggest that the next film will probably take place in Sonic’s world, which I might be down for, if they at least tone down Sonic being generally annoying. The only character I found mildly interesting was the old man who was trying to prove the existence of the “blue devil”.

Being able to form some sort of connection to Sonic’s character is a big reason the movie was so enjoyable for me at least. I was fond of pretty much all the characters, nobody in particular made me annoyed or bored. I found the whole story interesting enough to be invested.

The only things that actually bug me are some of the fart/poopy jokes (there aren’t even that many thankfully), the flossing, and the Zillow product placement.

Ugh. Me and a friend got about 25 mins. in and agreed it sucked and turned it off. Between the consistently nonsensical plot to the unfunny strings of jokes, the weird vocal and visual product placement and Jim Carrey being a douchebag… sure, I wasn’t expecting much, but this movie made the Detective Pikachu movie from last year look like Citizen Kane. And to think there were glowing reviews of this movie, stating things like “Jim Carrey is an absolut delight!”… MY ASS. Seriously, F this movie.

I don’t know, I enjoyed it quite a bit for what it was. It was definitely better than Detective Pikachu. Still would rather have a 2D animated movie based on the original games though.

No, I haven’t listened to their lesser known stuff, but have no intention to. Bohemian Rhapsody is actually really good for the first four lines before drifting into generic Queen nonsense.

I recommend actually listening to an album. If you have no further intetest in Queen, then at least listen to Abbey Road for The Beatles at their best IMO. I have to wonder if you’re actually familiar with what these bands sound like outside of two songs or so.

Have you listened to Abbey Road or A Night at the Opera? And I mean the actual albums, not just some songs off them. Everybody knows Bohemian Rhapsody, but nobody talks about The Prophet’s Song, etc. I’m just curious what your experience is listening to them.

D+80 - Empire Strikes Back - 4K Theatrical Reconstruction (Released)

(Apologies in advance for the off topic question, I just can’t find a better place to ask right now)

Is TheStarWarsTrilogy down? I’ve checked two sites, one says it’s down, the other says it’s up. Yesterday I just got an error message that mentioned server maintenance, so I assumed the forum was being updated or something. Now it still won’t load the site, but instead of an error message it asks for me to sign in. I assume it’s asking for an administrative sign in or something, because putting in my own sign in info doesn’t do anything.

I figure it’s nothing to worry about, but I wanted to check if anyone else knows what’s up.
