I presume they’re really sure of it this time?

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/abe-vigoda-sunken-eyed-character-actor-dead-94-36528884?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Mr. Vigoda was erroneously reported dead twice back in the 80’s. And you can’t blame those on twitter!

Sadly, this time it’s for real. http://www.abevigoda.com/

I just saw that he went. It’s sad that these things happen. If only Jack Soo could have also lasted this long.

The ships themselves are not plausible, but the writers should have looked at it logically. And honestly, the way they work in that short film is both way cooler, and makes more sense than what TFA did. The “cool ship” argument is fair, but the TIEs are far less “cool” when you portray them like that, in comparison to the short.

I gotta agree that ROTJ has by far the worst changes. To make the SE of the original at least watchable all you really gotta do is splice out a few frames to make Han shoot first. Yeah, the Mos Eisley stuff and CGI Jabba is pretty bad, but they pale in comparison to “Jedi Rocks.” And Empire isn’t really harmed at all by the changes. I certainly don’t think any of them help or were at all necessary (the original is a perfect film as it is), but the worst is changing the line “Bring my shuttle.” Hardly Earth shattering. For the most part the changes were neutral. Had no positive or negative impact on the film. If only those types of changes were made to the other two as well, I wouldn’t complain too much.

The SE of Jedi, on the other hand, is totally unwatchable. “Jedi Rocks” is one of the worst things I have ever seen, without exaggeration. Absolute cringe. I have no idea what Lucas was smoking, but I hope I never inhale any of it. The Little Sarlaac of Horrors is terrible too, and don’t even get me started on the “Noooooooo” and Hayden Christensen with his creepy ghost smirk. What little was left of Vader’s dignity from the prequels was robbed by those changes.

Luke saying “You’re lucky you got outta there” rather than “You’re lucky you don’t taste very good”, Boba Fett’s Jango voice over, and the new Emperor footage and dialogue, are other showstoppers in Empire… Not to mention the out-of-place CGI background distractions in Cloud City.

The new Emporer dialogue absolutely ruins it for me. I consider the 97 SE to be damn near perfection- The only things holding it back (besides outdated CGI) are Luke’s scream and “PREPARE MY STAR DESTROYER FOR MY ARRIVAL.”

Thankyou for reminding me of all the other things in the Empire SE that tick me off. I only mentioned the one thing in cloud city because it was the first thing to my mind, but I would actually have to say that the Emperor change irks me the most, Boba Fett coming in second.

cinematic universe only please: do organic sentient lifeforms consider droids to be sentient in the SWU?

I think R2’s screaming is more akin to him responding to the situation and less than actually feeling pain. Has someone ever slapped the back of your head softly with their cap, and you say: “oww”, despite not having felt pain. You were responding to the situation, not actually being hurt.

EDIT: The torture scene in ROTJ doesn’t make sense anyway, since the hot-plate doesn’t ever touch the droid’s feet.

I think that the changes in Empire definitely were negative to the film. Changing those hallways to balconies and windows is just horrid. It takes away from the claustrophobic atmosphere of the situation. Kind of like THX 1138. I’m not arguing that it had the worst changes, but you shouldn’t say they had neutral effects.

The preview is amazing! Looks so good. I do have a question, though. Why is the image so squished? I run it in VLC and set aspect ratio to 2.35, and it seems wider than it should be. It’s definitely wider than the SSE, as I pulled them both up and looked at them together. They’re both set to the same ratio, but the tech preview is stretched horizontally. Setting to 2.21 almost helps, but it’s ever so slightly too tall then.

I’m sorry, but if the movie has already told you, on more than one occasion, that poop exists, that should be enough information for you (it’s a little too much for me, but it doesn’t bother me). It should really go without saying that if poop exists, it has to go some place. You’re going to question that such a place exists until the movies show it to you or explicitly work it into a line of dialogue? Then what’s your alternative explanation for what happens to the poop? It disappears seconds after you excrete it, the way Yoda and Ben disappeared after they died?

No, they just leave it on the ground. How do you think Jar Jar stepped in it. Someone goed and goed until they finally went, then they kept going.

If World War One aircraft designers could figure out a way for pilots to fire bullets through the propellers, then making a blaster turret that won’t shoot the solar panels off should be easy.

Propellers are constantly moving, and they aren’t that big. TIE are always in the same place relative to the turret, and are massive blind spots blocking large area for potential fire. Shooting yourself down isn’t as much of a problem (I brought it up for the reference), but a rotating turret doesn’t have much use when such a large portion of the surrounding space is blocked by your own ship.

^^^Even so, from a pilots stand point, being off on the far side of a ship that large would make it difficult to learn how to maneuver it. This reminds me of a shot that I’ve always thought was weird in ROTJ. When the TIEs head towards the Falcon and you get that Falcon’s eye view, they all fly directly around the cockpit instead of the center of the ship.
