I have a question. Since this is an Italian print, that means it uses Italian language credits, right? If so, how will the US theatrical cut be reconstructed out of this resource if the credits (and apparrently Buck Rodgers) aren’t there?

EDIT: Oh, and are there original tracks in English? I haven’t gotten caught up on the THX preservations, so I apologize if this was answered somewhere else.

They turned a good film into a cheese-fest of bad dubbing and Raymond Burr inserts. I don’t find that very entertaining when there is a truly good film beneath it, and it’s just rubbing crap all over real entertainment.

The American cut of Godzilla is pure crap, and deserves a D-. Gojira (1954) on the other hand is definitely worth a B+.

EDIT: I’d even give it a B++. Like an 89.999…%.

I’m on Dre’s side on this one. Contrast looks great, and colors look great. I would say that toning down that magenta would be a plus though.

I watched Watership Down (1978) for the first time about a day ago. It was fantastic, and watching the Criterion BD helped the experience a lot. That film is on my “favorite animations” mental list now. 10/10 😃

Yeah, I never thought the shot timeline was out of wack, but whatever. Though it is a worthy complaint when it’s extremely noticeable and out of place. Like the PT Blu-Rays did in some scenes.

The main issue is the light leak that occurred during the scan. It caused bright light in the frame to streak across darker areas. I can’t wait to see what the new scan looks like.

I realize that it was a different technique applied to the Owen shot, and of course the BD causes problems, but I don’t like the way any of the DNR’d shots look anyway. Just giving an opinion.

Great work DrDre i really like how your handling the colors, although i would avoid using any dnr, if you look at the close up of luke with the jpg dnr applied he has plastic hair.

I was thinking the same thing, though I didn’t notice Luke’s hair, rather I thought Owen’s beard looked like smeared paint.

What?!?! I have no idea what you mean by all that. If Vader wasn’t “the elder Skywalker”, then how could he be Luke’s dad? If Ben didn’t know Vader was Luke’s dad, who was this other lightsaber wielding good friend that he assumed was his dad, and why didn’t he know who his dad was in the first place? Whoever thought of this convoluted idea is thinking too hard.

What do you mean? It was ESB when we found out that Vader was Luke’s father, meaning Ben was lying to him in Star Wars.

Even so, wouldn’t it be possible to shoot open matte and IMAX, so that the non-IMAX can be cropped to IMAX ratio?

My problem with IMAX scenes is that the AR shift wouldn’t have to happen if they just did the whole thing in IMAX. Either use IMAX or don’t use IMAX.
