They're never completely accurate, and you always end up missing something due to cultural differences. So which dub did you say was bad? I thought you were talking about Princess Mononoke, but then you said it had a good dub, so I assume you're talking about Sen and Chihiro's Spiriting Away, which I thought had a really superb dub. The acting was very good, the voices fit the characters, the script was pretty accurate as far as I could tell. Like I said, though, I'm not a fan of dubs to begin with, and since I come from DBZ and *groan* FUNimation, I have pretty low expectations for dubs to begin with.

What I meant was that Mononoke had a superb dub. I tihnk Sen and Chihiro's Spiriting Away had a god awful dub. Like I said, the only movie I ever watch with dub on is Mononke. DBZ was a horrible dub. I'm trying to get one of the complete sets off of eBay that's all in Japanese. But anime has never been dubbed well. I think the people who run dubs should be taken out and shot, and be replaced with people who take pride in thier work.

It's a great movie, if you don't watch the dub, which is awful.

Miyazaki's movies I've seen:

Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Kiki's Delivery Service
Howl's Moving Castle

All excellent films, though Mononoke is by far the best. It's a very powerful film. And it's the only one of the four with a good dub. In fact, its the best dub I've ever heard. It's excellent, so you don't have to read subtitles on that one.

It's so silly how Vader lost all his limbs. I saw it with my family (4 of us) and only 2 saw what happened. How long had they been building up to that moment? It just made no sense. Vader became a machine man because he was stupid? Yeah right.

Anakin in the PT never felt like he would be the man in the suit. Not once. I never felt a Vader vibe from him. And why didn't he have a reb saber in the final fight? Color contrast with the lava I suppose, but isn't the mark of a sith a red saber?

Snakes on a Plane
Time
While I have no plans to go see it (I have a horrible fear of Snakes, however fakey they may look) I can see why this movie is going to be popular. For one, it isn't taking itself seriously, and people seem to like that. It's just supposed to be a fun, summer movie. Not a dramatic, holiday season oscar winning movie. Secondly, it has mother******** snakes on a mother******** plane. (Just kidding.) I think all the hype was started because its such a rediculously bad idea, and people were intrigued, and so it became big online. It may have razzie written all over it, but I'll give it credit for being an original idea.

Doesn't it suck that hollywood's only original ideas....are bad ones?

BTW, how did they get the Snakes ON the plane? You'd think that they'd been stopped at customs.

Yep, the DS Lite is one helluva system alright. I also had the original DS, and the DS Lite is what the Game Boy Advance SP was to the original GBA. It'll be the definitive version. Nintendo has even stopped advertising with the original DS. And when you think about it, the original DS wasn't the best design in the world. For one, it was huge and bulky. The DS Lite is so much better, especially with that brighter screen. It really is alot like when I uprgraded to the SP. It was a world of difference.

Yeah, I know about the campaign. I was going to send back the discs of the spetember releases though.

Anyway, you're right that many of the sequences in the OT are very exciting. Sadly, most children are impressed by Jar-Jar fighting robots, which is apparently the new kind of action.

And I think a true fan of Star War would say that Luke VS. Vader in ESB is much more exciting than Anakin VS ObiWan in ROTS, right? That was so over the top it was laughable.

If this is all true, for me atleast, my bitching is over! I am getting what I want!

Exactly. Stereo sounds great, and I really could care less about a remastering. Just the DVD upgrade sounds good. After all, my bootlegs look very good, and feel very nostalgic, so the september release will be good enough for me. Anamorphic and stereo is all I need. The mono track would be good too.

Do you hate ROTJ? Many people do.

I'm afraid I'm not getting you're question. I don't believe I ever even mentioned ROTJ in my posts. All I said was that my cousins, like most kids, think the PT is much more exciting than the OT. Kids are impressed by flashy lights and crappy CGI, after all. I never once mentioned ROTJ. Anyway, I don't hate ROTJ, not at all. It may not be as good as the first two, but is still a great film.

The PS3 looks awesome, no doubt. The games will be great. But first off, 600 dollars is freaking ridiculous. Few can afford that much.

And games don't cost 70 dollars. The last generation of consoles (PS2, XBox, Gamecube) all cost 50 dollars. 70 may only be twenty dollars more, but that twenty starts adding up as you buy more games. Buy two games, that's another forty. We're not all made of cash.

Also, they keep delaying it. The choice to use blu-ray discs was stupid. It seems like its never going to come out.

And I've always preferred Nintendo. Cheap, dependable products. The Wii looks awesome, and I'm much more excited about it than the PS3. The back catalogue of old games is a great feature. And its an innovative console, what with the new stlye of playing. The PS3 is not innovative. Nor is the Xbox 360. They have better graphics. Big whoop. You can see blood and guts in shooting games more clearly. So what? Nintendo keeps innovating the game medium. I'm looking forward to the Wii.

Though I've never been into consoles all that much. I prefer handhelds. They're cheap, the games are cheap, they're fun and you can take them anywhere. The Nintendo DS is one of my favorite systems of all time. An innovative way to play with good graphics and truly fun, uncomplicated games.

In short, the PS3 looks good, but I'm getting fed up with it. They keep upping the prices and delaying the system. I cast my vote for the Wii, and will ay it one more time, HANDHELDS FOREVER!!!

Exactly. I've seen many, many movies better than Titanic. I think that was a movie that made money out of mob mentality. One group sees it and loves it, and everyone starts seeing it.

And the draw to pirates isn't hard to understand at all. It's simply a fun, action film, fun being the key words. I've never had so much fun watching a movie in a theater than when I've seen the pirates movies. I can also understand why some people don't like them, and everyone can have thier opinions.

I just saw the news on Digital Bits. Maybe they are changing it to anamorphic, but haven't announced it in the states yet.

And they might have changed it not because of fan protest. I think that if Lucasfilm wants to be remembered as a great companyo f special effects and modern technology, they can't have this mark on thier permanent record. They released a movie in non-anamorhpic. For god sakes, I've seen dvd's of not very well known comedians on DVD in anamorphic. Five buck DVD's at wal-mart are anamorphic. Lucasfilm would become a laughing stock if they did this, and it would just show the world how crazy Lucas is. So they made an anamorphic transfer.

If this pertains to the states as well, then I'm extatic. Some of you have just found new things to complain about--no remastering--but I'm content with an anamorphic transfer. My bootlegs look very good (in my book) as it is, so I don't neccesairly need a remastering, though it'd be darn cool to have one. (Though I'd like them to leave in some grain---it makes me remember that this is a film.) And I don't care about a 5.1 track at all. Stereo is fine by me. It'd also be cool for them to include the mono track. (Monty Python and the Holy Grail did it, so why can't Star Wars?)

My younger cousins were over today, and they love Star Wars. They like the prequel trilogy more ("it has all the action") and don't understand my views of hating 1, 2, and 3. But they love the original films too, and hadn't seen them in a few years, as they don't own them and thier local video store doesn't supply the rental. Well, I haven't watched the 2004 DVD's since I got my bootlegs, so I figured, why don't I give them to my cousins? They were thrilled when I handed them over, and not only to I no longer have to devote my shelf space to the 2004 versions, I know I made my cousins happy.

BTW, I kept the bonus disk and the box. The bootlegs are now in the box along with the bonus disc.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

TOTALLY!

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

It was AWESOME. I loved every minute of it. I loved how it had a much darky tone, yet it was, at the same time, light and funny. It was better than the first, in my opinion. It had a lot more action. The kraken, the fights with the flying duchman, and the three way sword fight. I thought it was neat how they would have about five action sequences going at once. It was wild, nonstop all the way through.

And it had a GREAT ending. Barbossa walks down and says "What'd become of my ship?" and then takes a bite out of an apple. Brilliant. I wanted to applaud. Actually, I did.

I think we've got something like the Star Wars trilogy going on here. Great first movie, better second one. It's so rare to have this happen. Dead Man's Chest made Curse of the Black Pearl look mild in comparrison. The third film has a helluva lot to live up too.

And it had TWO cliffhangers. Norrington handed over the heart to stuffy bad guy, (can't remember his name) and Jack being eaten by the kraken. It was so great where Jack seemingly faces death without fear in the end, and goes down with his sword drawn. I can't wait until next summer.
