Remember the mass advertising of TPM?
Time
Oh boy do I have memories of TPM advertising. KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell all had toys for months, long after the movie was on video. They also had these little round cardboard things to collect with charecter's faces. All the meals had images from the film on it. There must have been about a million kid books of the movie, and there was a lot more than that too.

AOTC was kind of like this, though on a much smaller scale. ROTS even smaller.

Snakes on a Plane

I saw SOAP...and LOVED it. It was so much fun, the most fun I've had at the movies all year. I really don't agree that it was shitty. It was over the top and tremendously silly in some parts, but it wasn't campy. It was a fun action film, and that's what I look for in my movies. Just a lot of fun in the theater. (And I'm one of the few who didn't go with a crowd.) If you haven't seen it, go see it. You'll have a lot of fun. But remember to go to it with an open mind. If you think it'll be shitty, it will be. Just try to have fun.

Audience reaction to the reveal?
Time
Same here YIYF. I won't even have those films in the house. All the kids I see think the original trilogy is all flawed because of things the prequels say, and they won't accept the fact that the prequels came out last. They also think the prequels are better because they have more "action." I patiently tell them that two guys waving lightsabers around and doing things phisically impossible even in the Star Wars universe isn't action. No kid of mine will be introduced to Star Wars with the prequels.

Audience reaction to the reveal?
Time
My parents are great. When they first showed me the tapes of Star Wars, they refused to give stuff away. I remember being shocked, but I don't remember if I thought he was lying. My dad's reaction when HE saw it in theaters was what most people though: Vader is a stinking liar.

Like GafferTape, the only Star Wars movies I got to see in theaters was the prequels...I don't care about theater sized jar jar, I want to hear Vader breathe in the kind of sound only a theater can provide.

Of course, this problem is non-existent in the manga. It's so much better than the anime. The Goku Vs. Freeza fight is really fast and exciting in the manga.

How the prequels should’ve played out:
Time
You both make great points.

To build on your ideas, in my mind, there would be no C3-PO in the PT either. Like a kid on tatooine was able to build him. Yeah right. Just R2 to explain how Obi-wan knew him. Also, Padme would live through it, and presumably be caught and killed by the empire in between eps. 3 and 4.

Also, Anakin's demise as he loses his limbs wouldn't be a blink and you miss it sort of thing. It'd be much slower, though I can't think of how. Maybe someone else can come up with something.

And the destruction of the Jedi wouldn't happen so fast. And Anakin would actually have had a hand in it beyond killing children. Episode three needed to be all about the hunting down of the Jedi and Anakin's injury that put him in the suit.

Episodes one and two would basically be one episode, with episode two being the clone wars and some of ROTS, including Anakin's seduction. Episode three would be the hunting down of the Jedi and some of the in-between years.

Quit Whining
Time
Originally posted by: Whiners
You guys are all a bunch of whiners. George Lucas changed the Star Wars movies so he could present them as he wanted to, and then you guys want the original versions. And now you're getting them, exactly the way they were showing them in theaters back in 1977, 1980, and 1983. But are you guys happy? No. You can't stop bitching about the fact you didn't get them in some certain format.

How could you people be so selfish? You've been whining for the original versions, you're getting the original versions, and now you want more. You actually, for once, WANT them to edit the original versions to your liking instead of getting the exact same experience you got in theaters almost 30 years ago. You're getting what you asked for, yet you want more. You people make me sick.

I can imagine the person who started this site. He's probably some 40-year old virgin who has the stature of a baby and lives with his mom, crying in his stroller "I WANT DA ORIGINAL STAR WARS MOVIES!!! WAH!!!" while his embarrased mom tries to shut him up when she's about to see Revenge of the Sith.

You know, Greedo's always been one of my favorite Star Wars characters, but ever since the special editions everyone's been whining about him shooting first and missing, and now he's changed into a one-dimensional character who misses all the time just because you people can't accept the fact your precious Star Wars movies were changed.

Quit bitching, you selfish bastards. Just shut up. You've gotten enough from your whining, enough to close down this stupid site once and for all.

Oh, and are you going to delete my post? Hmmm? Is that how you're going to counter me? Because I thought we believed in free speech, and seeing how this post hasn't broken any of the rules (maybe cursing, but that could easily be edited), I don't see any reason in it being deleted. Oh wait, no, you guys probably don't believe in free speech, and that's probably why you keep bitching at George Lucas for original versions when he's free to release whatever he wants. Fucking communists.

You idiot.

We are NOT getting the versions that were in theaters in the seventies and eighties. We are not getting the original mono track, the opening crawl is different now, among other little things. We are getting the shoddiest release possible. He might as well just release them on VHS again. He is trying to demean us by making the unaltered trilogy look like crap. You call us selfish bastards for wanting more, well, Lucas is the selfish battle. He's not giving us what we wanted at all.

And don't insult Jay and the other moderators by calling them 40 year old virgins. I have no doubt in my head you're fifty years old and the most action you've ever had was sneaking glances at your dad's playboys when he wasn't looking.

And we're not going to delete your post for expressing your opinion. But when you get to calling us communists, then it might turn into a deletion.

Hey, I've got a theory. This guy must be George Lucas expressing his views on us. This is Lucas' views on us exactly, so I think I've got a good chance of being right. After all, only a few people are this closed-minded.

And George, you're free to release whatever version you want, but take a leaf out of your friend Spielberg's book and give every version thet same dignity you gave the new versions. Just look at E.T. Spielberg messed with it (although his changes weren't nearly as bad as yours) but gave viewers the choice of which version to watch, and gave them both good video quality and anamorphic widescreen.

Manga I read:

One Piece
Dragon Ball (that includes the later half, named "Z" in America)
Death Note
Yu-Gi-Oh (don't call me a nerd. It's nothing like the shitty anime)

I reccomend all of these, but you HAVE to read Death Note. It really is the best manga I've ever read, and is much better than most novels I've read. I'm probably going to start collecting another series soon. I've been holding off because dragon ball is 42 volumes, Yu-Gi-Oh, when finished, is 38 volumes, and One Piece already has 12 out, with volume 41 having just been released in Japan. (See how you have to plan ahead with these things?) Luckily, Death Note has 7 out now and will only go to a volume twelve. If I am going to collect another, it was going to be Rouroni Kenshin. Is that one good?

Finally Got Rid of My 2004 DVD's...
Time
Welcome to the OT boards! Finally a special edition fan who sees OUR side of the arguement. You're a rare breed.

And in answer to your question, we just want Lucas to treat the OOT with the dignity he gives the SE. And we'll watch a lower quality version if we have too, clarity really isn't the number one priority. We want the version we see as the best to be out in a good format that we can view. That's it.

Also, its funny to look at where a thread starts and where it gets to in two weeks.

Help me come up with the next Pixar movie
Time
My idea for a Pixar movie?

Well, there's this really old book I have (out of print for years and years now) called "A Toad for Tuesday" about a toad who gets captured by an owl. The owl tells the toad he will eat him next Tuesday, and the toad must think of a way to escape. I'll read the book again and give you a more detailed synopsis, but basically, when Tuesday rolls around, the owl finds the toad was theo nly real friend he'd ever had, and decides not to eat him. It's a great story for kids, and Pixar could execute it perfectly.

Also, they don't have to animate ANY humans, so we wouldn't have that plagueing the animation. Once again, I'll give you a more detailed synopsis later.
