HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE

100th reply to this thread

I havent actually seen this movie yet, gotta borrow my little bro's dvd and watch it.

Have they started filming on the next one yet? do they have any sort of release schedule for these. I mean, ideally they would all be made 1 year apart so the ageing of the actors is believable. but it seems that 2 are, then they have a 2 year gap for the next one looking at imdb. Do they film 1 film at a time, or do they do a LOTR or Pirates of the Caribean 2 & 3 and film multiple films at the same time?

I'm confused, i was when this was first posted but figured whatever, since DAYV called out the 'math' and Shimraa is defending it, i feel the need to ask for clarification.

sybeman's comment (taken at face value) would mean that China has been a super power for 1600 of the last 2000 years, the last 2000 years would go from 6 A.D. to 2006 A.D. I assume the 1600 years he refers to would be the previous ones, so from the year 406 A.D. they were a super power. That last part might be a wrong interpretation, but the point still makes sense.

Then Shimraa responds with (gonna break this down into parts):
naw : simple, he disagrees with sybeman (the first post on the subject and the one right before his)
i would say from 500 - 1500 : confusing. is this 500 - 1500 years that you think they are a super power? given the context of what is being replied to, that would be a logical assumption. from later statements, it would seem he's talking about 500 A.D. to 1500 A.D.
then now : ok, i generally understand shimraaese but can we get a coma or something here. then now means pretty much nothing. Apparently, from later comments, then now is the past 10 years, how anyone can get that from the above statement is beyond me.
so thats a total of 1010 years : ok, well this makes sense, after later posts. but in the context of the original post, its a number pulled out of thin air.

posting this seemed to straighten the post out for me (still dont know how 'now' is 10 years, i always thought now was now, didnt realize now was a 10 year span)

but still gonna have to agree with DAYV, 'Nice Math'

VERY nice cover. SO much better than the official one.

*image removed*

Unbelievably, these graphics 'artists' are paid for work as bad as the above cover.

I'm interested to see what you've done with this movie too. It was a fun throwaway movie and <looks around to check wife isn't reading >, certainly can't complain about Jennifer Garner.

This is something I've actually noticed on a bunch of dvds, In my opinion the original release cover (the edition before the fun and flirty edition) had much nicer artwork. Its not the first time I've seen worse artwork on a 'Special Edition' (just meaning more extras etc on the disc) release than on the original 'barebones' (at least more bare bones then the later release editions) release.

Very nice artwork there Agilis, Ill have to reburn the ones i have (matrix, 13 to 30) on printable discs.

Since im posting might as well comment on the 13 to 30 edit (as its the only one ive seen). I thought it was good, wish the cut scenes were available in a better quality as it would have made it seemless. I didnt even notice the removed scenes until i watched them in the extras. And I agree that parts of the original opening/closing would have been better than the one they used in the movie, its a shame they had to go and use a different cast

Haha, thats funny...I'm tempted to load up a computer with Win 3.1 just to say I have a Win 3.1 machine

But as far as Vista being delayed. It doesn't bother me. From the little I read about it, it isnt gonna run (at least effeciently) any any now modern machines, and since I dont really want to upgrade my computer (plus Microsofts whole change to the definition of a computer for the use of OEM software) im not really too interested in upgrading, though some of the features in Vista do look kinda nice.

A Frightening Possibility

Warbler, you're the one that keeps brining borg into this. No one else is saying they want to be borg, the article said nothing about borg, adding mechanical enhancements does not make one a borg. The logical leap to this conclusion is just not there.

They already have those suits that starkiller was talking about and they do not permanatly attach to the body.

Cybernetic appendages/enhancements can easily be used to aid people who are handicapped or lost limbs in war or other accidents. Would you then start calling those people borg and say they are 'assimilated'.

You're the one the one that brought up the whole thing about the borg and a collective conciousness. The issues at hand/raised by this 'technology' are from from having to worry about those 'being borgafied' brings up. the main issue is personal privacy. also the issues brought up here about increasing violent crimes for simple robbery.

as far as replacing credit cards and such. if someone steals your credit card (or you loose it) you call the company and they cancel it and give you a new one. if someone cuts off your arm to take your chip can you call up the company to get a new arm? and this is assuming its in an arm, what if its in the back of your neck, or some other location...you may not survive the theif taking it from you. I can guarentee that the company that does the implant, while they may give you a new chip free of charge (yeah right, most cases would probably require you to pay for it, or at least the surgery) i can guarentee they wont give you a new arm or life (if the theif killed you to take it).

as far as guarentees, yeah the more they do it the better they get at the procedure and the safer it becomes...does that mean you're gonna let them use you as a guinea pig? cause i know im not gonna (and neither does that senator seem to want to either)

we already add more 'parts' as you put it (glasses, contact lenses, artificial limbs). We already modify the brain (drugs, prescription and not, heck, even school and learning 'modify' your brain) guess we're already 1 foot in the door of 'Borgdom'

bullbleep. I am not a computer. I can feel and create. A computer just runs programs. I can grow and learn, a computer can't. I was born, a computer is manufactured. My intellengence is real, not artificial. I am unque. Borg are not.

that was almost a valid point, however its (almost) validity does not negate the validity in starkillers point. The human brain could techincally be called a computer (and im pretty sure it has been referred similarly by respected doctors/scientists)

as per dictionary.com a computer is
1) A device that computes, especially a programmable electronic machine that performs high-speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles, stores, correlates, or otherwise processes information.
2) One who computes.

where does that say anything about growing and learning, or being born, or feeling, or creating. besides, what about learning computers, they can meet some of these requirements. also, who's to say your intellegence is any more real than a computers..you learn from experience, so do neural nets/learning comps.

however, all that aside, the last part of that statement is the best. "I am unique. Borg are not." Ok, Dr. Spock. Thanks for pulling the Borg reference out of no where again.

Sorry if i rambled some, but I am getting ready to leave work and wanted to respond to your post(s). I think I addressed most of your points, though my main grievance was the 'Borg' stuff. and just to be clear I dont mean this as a personal attack, I just dont think the borg is a pretty far leap for the topic JediSage brought up in the article.

A new chip that could end the HD-DVD / Blu-ray battle before it even begins?!?!

sorry for the double post, but i forgot to mention the case art. is it just me or is the case artwork shown in the pictures on the side the same as for the dvd release (at least in most, if not all cases). only difference seems to be the blue plastic.

also, look at the picture that features the Fantastic 4 disc. It says Beyond High Definition on it. I thought 1080p was high def.

or is 720p high def making 1080p higher def.

I mainly want blu ray discs to back up files from my harddrive

Thanks for posting the list Jay,

While there were some good titles in that list, it does seem like most of the studios just picked movie names out of a hat. And most of the titles i would be intersted in I already have on DVD and im not planning on double dipping.

couple questions id be intersted to see some of your opinions/thoughts on. how come they have Kill Bill Vol 1 but not Kill Bill Vol 2? they did the same thing with Lethal Weapon, only the first one...now would be prime time to release all 4 as directors cuts since only the first 3 have a director's cut on DVD release. Also, just a comment, but some of the titles i didnt realize were under the studio listed. Like whats up with all three terminators being under a different studio?

nothing wonky is going on and its not a glitch.

Sessler was higher on the top ten than Warbler, unfortunatly awk was higher than both. so when Warbler retook a spot on the top ten (happened like 2 weeks ago i think) all it did was knock Sessler off the list, not awk. Only with their efforts combined can we clean up the top 10 pollution.

OT.com fan edit blog: your thoughts please (Update: development underway)
Time
Wow, that sounds like a great idea with tons of potential.

if one of its uses will be to compare edits i think you should add in some info on the movie format/specs
ie, how is it available (SL-DVD, DL-DVD, avi, mpg, etc) this should obviously be the release format only because anyone could take an avi and put it to a dvd or vice versa, but it's nice to know how the author originally released it.
also, information on if its PAL or NTSC, Aspect ratio information (Anamorphic/Letterbox/4:3)
if there is official disc/case art available
what extras are available on the discs
running time

im sure there are more, basically im just thinking the kinds of basic questions people ask about the edits/preservations when trying to decide which one they should get
