what about not being able to see black and white? Like only being able to see colors, that would be wierd if even possible. I know its all some rod and cones thing but my bio knowledge is severely lacking.

Wanted: I'm looking for a PAL VCR...
Time
the dvd player i got ($40 cyberhome unit, pretty good though, especially for the price, even has progressive out) can be 'modded' (not like a chip, its like a code or something you enter while in one of the menu screens) to be region free and you can buy it at best buy and all those stores.

think there are others that have the same sort of thing.

Thats what i never understood about these regions, its not like its hard at all to get by them, so what purpose do they really serve?

George Lucas makes you an offer you can't refuse
Time
Hey, the muppets made some pretty good movies...I'd be willing to bet that "The Muppets Go To Tatooine" would be better than the Holiday Special (not that it would take much).

But it would never happen, Lucas would insist that all the muppets be done in CGI, and then they just wouldnt be the muppets anymore

And bossk is right, if Lucas made an offer like thattake the money, get rich and powerful, and then become Lucas. Make changes to movies...or you can go the opposite route and use that money and power to then produce a bunch of good movies

Those magic butterfly transformations
Time
I fail to see where "How to lose a guy in 10 days" did this. Did you even see this movie. If anything it was more of an emotional change for Hudson and McConaughey's characters than a physical change. Their was not one character in that movie that had a make over.

I think "Not another teen movie" addressed this (as well as a bunch of other cookie cutter type plot points) extremely well. When they talk about who they are picking for the bet they have comments like, but she has paint on her jeans and glasses, while refereing to the conjoined (at the head) twins as being too easy to transform.

I think they did a better job making Hatheway look unpretty than they did with Bullock. But either way, these movies always use someone that is beautiful to begin with, so they have to 'uglify' them by putting their hair in an unflattering style, and using makeup to do the opposite of what the makeup usually is used for.

Besides, these movies are more about (or are supposed to be, as this is the message they try to get across) the inner beauty of the person. At least thats how I always figured it, i mean it is a 'Cinderella' story, and is that not what Cinderella was all about?

Does anyone feel that cinema tough girls have degenerated over the years?
Time
Tank Girl...now there's a classic movie, she was pretty bad ass too.

Milla is hot (as hell), and imho pretty bad ass in the movies where she is portraying a tough girl. Love the scene where she kicks some alien ass in 5th element.

Also though, whats the other girl thats in Resident Evil with her, dont feel like looking it up. She's in The Fast And Furious too, and also in SWAT. Id have to say she does the tough girl thing pretty good.

Riddles
Time
I could have sworn when i read the dot one at first it said 3 lines, and was thinking the same thing that DanielB posted. Even if the dots 'have no size' which is physically impossible cause then there would be no dots if you draw the lines far enough out, then their 'slope' will be essentially nothing and the 3 lines would appear parallel to the naked eye.

So im gonna go with DanielB's solution working for 3 lines, but the riddle stats using only 4 lines...so as an answer to that, DanielB is one line short, therefore his answer doesnt work

Anyway, my Dad works in a hospital hear in London and got chatting to him while he was in for surgery and mentioned I was a big fan - nice one.

Also, my TIE inteceptor limited edition VHS box set of the original versions, digitally remastered for picture quality but no crappy CGI. Actually, I'd like to know the value of that (not that I would ever sell it). Does anybody have any idea??

I've also got a carded ROTJ Darth Vader figure from 1983 signed by Dave Prowse...But that guy will sign anything. Does he wear the suit in Episode 3? Bet he's pissed if they got someone else.

Thats some cool stuff you got there. As for the TIE Interceptor box set. Its value is whatever you can sell it for. Not trying to sound condescending or anything but, in all honesty its value is what would be deemed a reasonable price and what it can be 'commonly' sold for. Thats how pricing guides work. So what would you pay for it now? Also though, since you wont sell it, alot of its value becomes sentimental, so it may be worth more to you than someone that would make an offer to buy it from you.

The Mara Jade you know of in the comics....see what ADigitalMan failed to mention is that eventually the emperor realizes that Mara Jade has this fettish, so he kills her, but not after taking a sample of her dna in hopes that he can then make a clone and alter its genetics to eliminate this fetish. It works for a period of time, until the emperor dies allowing the Mara Jade story line to progress as you know it.

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
ok, after reading some of the comments people have about the isomix version i decided that i want to check this out. But downloading it off of myspleen is gonna take a while...so i was wondering if anyone that has it would be willing to burn copies if i sent them some blank discs. I'd also be willing to trade, but all i have is pretty much from myspleen, so im guessing that whoever could help me would already have the same things.

pm me if you can and want to help thanks

.: The X0 Project Discussion Thread :. (* unfinished project *)
Time
Im curious about this X0 raw capture. I know effectivly nothing about video capture/editing but if its not too much trouble had a couple questions.

What format is the raw capture in? Is it mpeg2 (i believe thats the one that everyone talks of using to source dvds) and can it be watched as is on a computer? if yes, is it watchable? meaning does it require any color correction or anything like that to have the quality which you said would be better than that of most people watching the actual laserdiscs on their own player?

also, as far as comments you (Laserman) made earlier about the process of making this capture. You said something about putting it on a dvd9. going from an 80gig file to a 8.5 gig dvd isnt that gonna require alot of compression, thereby reducing the quality significantly? Would anything else be done with prior to putting it on a dvd, or is the put on dvd step only part of individual projects?

-Darth Simon

sorry for any of the real newbie-ish questions...but as i said my knowledge of video capture/editing is probably somewhere around a -5 on scale of 1 to 10

yes i realize there are many self centered people out there that wont help you just cause you previously helped them.

but you said he doesnt owe us anything...and thats not true...he owes his success to his fans (well star wars fans would be more accurate since he seems to be trying to alienate his fans) without his fans he would never have gotten to where he is today

and besides dont you think most directors would want to preserve a ground breaking film that they made in its original unaltered form, if only for their own personal enjoyment.

He has the money, he has the resources, and there is demand. No reason not to clean up the original film and put it on dvd.

yes he does, he owes his success to all those fans. You know all the ones that were made happy, thus making star wars successful, thus giving lucas the wealth/power he now has that is allowing him to make his changes.
