ROTS: poll, who's already got their tickets?
Time
got mine about 2 weeks ago...kinda slacked off on the checking when they went on sale, plus i was up in the air about going to a midnight show cause of work. Ending up just taking off on the thursday, but unfortunatly when i got my ticket they were sold out of the digital projection. But just checked and they still have digital for the first showing tomorrow, so I may just go again tomorrow cause ill most likely be around the mall at that time anyway. Debating on whether to get my tickets online now, or if i can pick them up tonight, or if they will still have them tomorrow...decisions, decisions....

Yeah, its us OLD people George- thanks!
Time
I have to agree with the Sessler about the whole 'new car smell' I was the same way, im a few years older than Sessler (23) and when i first saw the SE's i 'loved' them. Dont get me wrong, there were parts I didnt like (mainly Han/Greedo and the new ending of ROTJ). But now i think the reason i 'loved' them was that i more loved the expericence of seeing them in the theater, on the big screen and i overlooked all the other changes.. But looking at the changes now while i dont think all the changes are as bad as some people, i am against most, if not all of them. Not because they are all necessarily bad, or distracting from the storyline (at least not in my opinion) but its more of Lucas' mindset behind the changes that turns me against the minor ones that i normally/probably wouldnt mind if they were the only changes made.

as for the PT, I enjoyed the movies. I'd have to agree that they arent as 'Star Wars' as the OT, but honestly will anything ever be. I went into the movies knowing that no matter what happened, no matter how good they were, they wouldnt live up to 25 years of hype, its just not possible. While watching all the movies to get psyched up for Episode 3, I saw many plot points Lucas could have modified slightly, still done his 'the OT and PT have to tie in together in as many ways as possible cameos', ie Fett, Jabba, etc without it seeming forced and distracting from the greatness of those characters.

Whoever said that Lucas is somewhat right but just had the wrong age (paraphrasing) i somewhat agree with. Id probably put it a bit lower than 20, and again, exceptions to every rule type thing. But it goes to show (at least in my opinion) that Lucas lost touch with the fan base. He forgot what made sw so great. He is a pretty brilliant man when it comes to marketing, but I think he missed site of who his target audience should have been. Most of my friends who are no where near as big of a SW fan as i am hated the prequals, they thought they were childish, poorly written, etc. If had made movies that fans of the OT could enjoy across the board, im pretty sure that todays' "kids" would enjoy them as well. Instead he wrote movies for an age group that he is even less in-touch with than he is in-touch with the age group of people who fell in love with the OT.

As far the Lucas/Jackson comparison. I think its pretty accurate. As stated the actions of each were not being compared (changing a movie/supposedly molesting children). Jackson grew up in the spotlight, he became famous at a very young age and always had people taking care of him and what not. He never really grew up. His sense of reality is very different from most adults. Lucas' success came about rapidly, if im not mistaken, he didnt even expect the success brought about by SW. He's lived a very different life, and has as a result lost touch with what Star Wars really is. Even if SW was never actually 'finished' according to Lucas, he can never, no matter how much he tries, finish it the way he would have back in 1977 if he had todays technology and his virtually unlimited income to do so because he has changed as a person, and this is going to be reflected in his work. Does that make it wrong for him to do so, i guess not, it is his piece of art, but I think it is wrong for him to deny part of his past (the OT) because that event played a big part in making him who he is today, and put him in the possition to do what he does today. It was mentioned once in some other tread that Lucas is afraid of the Legacy of SW dying (paraphrasing) that the reason he is updating the movies is because he's afraid they wont last the test of time. Unfortunatly in his fear of his Legacy dying, and his attempting revival of it, he has actually done the opposite, almost as if he doesnt have the faith in the OT that the fans of it did/do. And his self proclaimed perfection, and (from what i hear/read/interprete) overbearing control of everything SW prevented him from making the movies that he could of when he decided to make the prequals. But his stubborness (and probably fans that throw egg in his face whenever he tries to say anything related, or even not related, to the topic) have put him on the defensive. Most people are going to defend their actions, if they start getting attacked for these actions its gonna put them on the defensive and they are (even if they eventually realize their mistake) continue to defend them to 'save face' because they dont want to look like they caved in to pressure or that their original action was a mistake.

So, will Lucas ever release the OT. If people continue to cast stones at him probably not. Like someone said in another thread, when he can make it seem like his idea, or that it was his plan all along, then he may.

I know I ended up rambling (ranting) a bit, and even got a bit off topic. But hopefully my points manage to get across through all that (despite its length and probably incoherence at times). But as far as the direct topic goes, I agree with whoever said that trying to group people on a generalization like that doesnt every really work. But if Lucas feels it necessary to do so (though i think its just him trying to rationalize\defend his actions), i think his age cutoff is a bit off.

For those that cannot play PAL DVD's....
Time
yeah, i think that phillips is the same one that gets kudos over in the myspleen forums as well. and when i replace my dvd player (or just decide to upgrade after i get my own place and then get enough money back in my pockets to get a nice home theater system going) its probably the one i would get. though id spend the money on the tv and sound system first because those need upgrading more.

but when i got my player i was basically looking for a good inexpensive player that could replace my laptop as my dvd player (dont mind hooking my laptop up for divx as i dont do that as often, but i wanted to be able to use my laptop while i watched movies) and i got the cyberhome because of its price point. it wasnt till afterwards that i found it could play pal discs...so for a purchase that was meant as a 'temp' dvd player to get me by im more than satisfied with its performance.

The Official babyhum Release Thread
Time
baby hum,

does this mean you have 'official' cover/disc art for your releases or is that only for the newer ones? and if so are you going to make these available for download?

for the dolby, dvd, and region artwork you may want to check the file DVD-CD-Surround_Loggos.zip available in Rikter's SW Cover Torrent. You can use a client that allows you to select specific files and just download that file. Or i can send you the file via email if you want. Only thing is it doesnt have Region artwork, but should cover the rest of the artwork your looking for. I know some of the case art also has the region artwork on it so its should be possible to isolate that from the existing covers in a resolution that is acceptable.

and one last question....do you offer hard copy distribution or only download base. I realize that sending copies to everyone that wants one can be expensive/time consuming so id understand if you didnt. But currently only up to 3 has been released as a torrent and now your showing us artwork for 7, and id really like to get the collection of your releases and cant wait for the torrents

I have the above mentioned DVD player, and for the price you pay its actually a pretty good player. It has played any dvd ive thrown at it so far (and yes I have played pal discs, babyhum's releases, with it). There is also a very easy 'hack' that will allow it to be region free (I dont have a link to the instructions but it can be easily found on google).

so listen to Rikter, he knows of what he speaks

Which did you prefer, the SE or the 2004 DVD edition?
Time
of the two (though i have only seen ANH in the 2004 version) i have to go with the 1997. cause even though Lucas made changes then that were pointless and what not, the 2004 DVD changes take it to a whole new level of ruining a perfectly good movie.

Some where minor changes, but more (if not all of the changes, not even talking about the mistakes) are just a slap in the face to people who just want the OOT. Anakin's ghost, Fett's voice, new Emperor Dialog, new shuttle scene with Vader. Its truly insulting (im perfectly capable of infering that vader traveled via a shuttle, i dont need you to show it with footage from another movie)

Original trilogy
Time
I dunno why he changed it, I believe it was because he wanted to make Han not appear to be a cold blooded murder. though if i told someone they could take my ship over my dead body and they said that they were looking forward to that for a long time i sure as hell would take that as a threat on my life and that their intention was to kill me (especially if they are pointing a gun at me) so i would probably blast them under the table just as Han did.

So all he really did was take away part of Han's character, instead of being a rogue and having one up on Greedo he only fired in response to Greedo being an unbelievably terrible shot. (keep in mind, Han didnt have the ability to aim as precisly as greedo because Han's gun was under the table)

so its just things like that, yeah, the movies are still good, but they arent as good as the Originals. Even the changes that dont change the plot still slow down the flow of the movie. If he's such a perfectionist why doesnt he realize that while not perfect maybe, the OOT was pretty darn close, and was closer than the SE's are. His changes are only dealing with the perfection of the visual representation of the special effects, not with the story as a whole. If he was such a perfectionist then if he didnt think the movies were perfect he should never had released them. What about Lucas' mind set, he couldnt enjoy the movies as they were, as millions of people had done for 20 years before he made changes. I think he hides behind being called a perfectionist as a way to justify the changes he makes to a movie that was perfectly fine.

Greedo not a bounty hunter?
Time
I agree with Rebel11_38. The tales from the Mos Eisely Cantina has a good backstory on Greedo and also shows how he could/is a bounty hunter.

also Greedo's line about the bounty hunters looking for him is no indication of if he's a Bounty Hunter or not. He said every bounty hunter is gonna be looking for Han (if greedo's a bounty hunter this would include him) and the he is lucky he (as a bounty hunter wanting the bounty on Han like all the rest of the bounty hunters) is lucky he was the first bounty hunter to find him (though ends up being not so lucky for him)

of course that take assumes he's a bounty hunter and im not discounting your idea, more trying to show how that part of the conversation doesnt support it either way. but after reading the above mentioned story in Tales, I would say he's a bounty hunter.

the part that always intrigued me is Greedo telling han if he gives him the money he would forget he found Han. Thats a pretty ballsy move no matter who you are (bounty hunter and/or lowly employee of Jabba) if Jabba were to find out you took his money and ran off (which is whats implied by that statement, because if his plan was to give the money to Jabba he wouldnt be forgetting that he found Han) you would be more hunted than Han was. So i always found it interesting that Greedo made this comment.

also, just though of this now, but just because Han calls Jabba Greedo's boss doesnt mean Greedo is in direct employ of Jabba. Technically when Fett (or any bounty hunter) takes a job from someone (anyone) for a bounty he is working for the person that put out the bounty.

ok, i confuzzled things in my head.

either way, I dont share the view that Mario is as powerful as you say. I never had any problem defeating Mario (as Ness) or Kirby (though getting caught in his drill kick does suck)

and no one else could beat you for two years cause you didnt play against me or my friends My one friend who someone harnessed the power of Yoshi was probably the only person that could consistantly give me a challenge, he's the guy that could actually play like 3 characters really well and would start playing another character after he got good with the current one (mainly played Yoshi, Pikachu, DK). If youve every played against someone that can use Yoshi effectivly its a royal pain in the ass, those eggs he throws are possibly the most annoying move in the game.

2) When i slowly start loosing access to cable channels i should have (half my movie channels and half my regular channels that i should have access to) and the guy on the phone is no help

3) shaving, agree with ric, it totally sucks

Chaltab, in your first post you said that Link pwns everyone except mario, you may have miss-typed because you said the reverse in your next post, if what you meant was what you said in the second post then i guess i dont disagree it was with this comment about links power that i disagreed with. yes link is very powerful if used correctly, and he is more easy to learn to use then most others, but if playing against a decently good character the person playing as Link needs to be real good to not get schooled.

skyman, i gotta agree with pretty much all of that, i know someone that was real annoying with jigglypuffs b-punch, they also used it to travel from one side of the screen to the other making it very hard to kill them. If i remember correctly i though links new third jump was somewhat weird, but i havent played in a while.

I think all the characters had at least one movie that was real powerful and the that you could exploit, but at the same time you could also exploit the characters use of that if you knew what you were doing. overall i think the original was fairly well balanced. my friends and i got so good that we would basically cheap kill people (kick them straight down when they were trying to come back) Ness is very good at this if you can control his third jump (which i could), Pikachu and Yoshi are also good at keeping people from coming back as well as DK cause he has that down punch.

I think the change in controls affected the play a lot, like with Ness it made his 3rd jump much harder to control.

I started mainly playing Zelda/Shiek (the ability to transfer based on the needed situation is huge) and I also used Mewto but to a lesser degree.

gonna disagree with you on that. Link was the easy character to play...not trying to insult anyone that used him, but 98% of the people i know started with link. Yeah, you could get good with him and play him beyond that level, but no way he would be put at the top. Just like Mario did not 'PWN' everybody. Kirby was decently good but honestly not that much of a challenge, even in the hands of a good player.

actually all the characters were good in the hands of someone that knew what they were doing, I know people that rocked with donkey kong. heck, i know people that could clean house with Jigglypuff. My character of choice was Ness. Now he PWNS everybody. I was deadly with him, but i knew how to play him to his full advantage. Just like my friends could play their character of choice to full advantage. Actually my one friend that gave me the most trouble spent time playing lots of characters, and was good with most (prob the best as far as being able to use multiple characters that i know, and actually probably only second to me as far as a single character). He mainly played Pikachu when we were in serious matches, but at the end he picked up Yoshi and was damn good (and annoying) with him.

in the new one, they actually 'wussyfied' all the characters because they changed the whole style of play. I lost the precision i had with Ness' third jump because of the control change. but yeah, basically they are two totally different games and need to be played in different ways.

yeah, i saw that and posted it over in off topic (there used to be a blu ray vs hd-dvd topic there) i thought about posting it here in response to that as well, but felt i would be double posting, so glad to see you posted it over here (cause i know some people dont read all the forums)

if you're intersted the source (for those skeptics, though i encourage people to check out sources) is ign, at least where i saw the article. dont have the link for it in front of me, but if you head over to the off topic its in the blu ray and hd-dvd thread i started over there. but klingon jedi posted the whole article so you wont get any more info over at ign.

Klingon_Jedi, i agree with the 'insider' not following tech news very well. He also apparently doesnt listen to what Lucas himself says because he contridicts comments Lucas made regarding a 2007 release during Celebration III, again not sure where a link to that article is, but i think somone posted it over in general star wars discussion.

Blu-ray Wins?
The next generation DVD format seems to get finalized.
by Anoop Gantayat
May 9, 2005 - Following recent announcements of a move towards compromise in the heated battle to become the next generation home video standard, the Tuesday morning Nihon Keizai Shimbun contains a first report on the shape that such a compromise will take. According to the paper, Sony and Toshiba have entered into final preparations for a format which combines disk technology from Sony with software technology from Toshiba. The two companies plan to offer an unified format to members of their respective high definition video forums as early as next week.

Toshiba's decision to give way on the disk format was apparently made after examining cost issues related to the Sony technology. The merged format will make use of Sony's 0.1 millimeter Blu-ray disk technology with Toshiba's software in place for reading and writing from the disk and handling copyright protection. Toshiba's 0.6 millimeter HD-DVD disk technology will be dropped. The resulting technology will be offered as a new format. It's unclear at this point if the new format will adopt the Blu-ray or the HD-DVD name, or if something completely new will be used.
Sony announced late last year that the next generation PlayStation would make use of the Blu-ray format. The Nihon Keizai article reveals that, as part of the compromise, Blu-ray supporters Sony and Matsushita were demanding the highest possible storage space for future IT and game applications. This would suggest that, even though Blu-ray as it was known is gone, the new merged standard will end up serving as the format for PS3.

Expect further announcements later this week or at E3.

digital projection is RAD - ROTS

does anyone here (im sure some do) have tickets to see it at the 12:01 showing on a digital screen. I tried but was a bit slow, so while im going to the theater that has a digital projector im not sure if i have tickets to that auditorium. It seems they only have 1 digital projector, and the guy said that one show was sold out...so I dont know what version ill be seeing on the early morning hours of the 19th. Either way, i plan to see both versions, mainly for personal comparison reasons. So i plan to buy a ticket for the show (digital/film) i dont have for probably that sunday (the 22nd) providing there is showings available at that point. which i expect there should be.

also, as a slight aside, what do peoples tickets say? Mine says 12:01 am Wed 5/18/05 which is technically incorrect because the whole point of the midnight showing is that it is already the 19th at that point. (and they also can show it at midnight exactly and be fine as far as the release date, they dont have to wait till 1 minute after, think of new years)

I have to agree with bossk on that above amazon post.

in addition, the main problem i had is this line

Quote

First of all, let me explain why Lucas released this set. Demand was very high, and DVDs were going to be phased out in the near future. He wanted to please the fans, and give them something to tide over with until the BD/HD-DVD set hits stores in 2007.

can i be so bold to call bullshit on this one? I dont even think Lucas is so arrogant to assume that he can predict what the next media format is going to be. Plus, does this mean that we are getting a BD AND HD-DVD set in 2007? or does this 'insider' know something about the current format war between these to media types that he can predict that one or both will succeed and become the next format in less than 2 years. I think most people will agree that DVD is phasing out VHS but when something is phased out its not an instant change. VHS versions of movies are still released. Some people still only have VCRs suprising as that may sound to some. So what makes you think that in less than 2 years a DVD release of a movie will be pretty much obsolete. Even if there are BD/HD-DVD players on the consumer market in 2 years, more people are gonna have regular DVD players than the new BD/HD-DVD players and a DVD release of any movie that is released to BD/HD-DVD is gonna be required if they want to turn any profit on it, and lets face it, thats the name of the game here as is even mentioned in our mysterious insider's post.

This post also contradicts comments made by lucas at CIII about the 2007 release. (believe he basically said its dvd and no further changes are going to be made). And if Lucas is going to jump on this new format so quickly with a SW release in it, why didnt it do the same when dvd first came out? if it was because they didnt think dvd would make it why are they so sure that BD and/or HD-DVD will make it?

Many a conversation I've had about time travel with my mates early into the morning...granted we are usually fucked..but time travel man...good thread...it's about time man
(see what I done there)

What are some of the plot holes/mistakes you are referring to?

I know there is the 'problem' with the name of the canyon, because Doc's involvment would have kept Clara from dying which is evident by the tombstone. But we never saw the name of the canyon after Doc went back to 1885, so its possible it kept its original name until Marty caused further changes and it was then called Eastwood Canyon.

I cant figure out how Doc ended up making another time machine though. That still eludes me. Yeah, im sure he's good, but the materials he needed wouldnt have been available back then. Plus he also totally abandons his no more time travel rule at the end.

also, ric, if multiple universes are created then everytime they went back to the future they would end up in a different universe and the universe that existed with the original way would still exist. I think Doc actually refered to it as an alternate reality. which makes more sense, but the way two worked it also implies that even after they changed it 'back' by getting the almanac that reality where Biff had the almanac would still exist in a different plane of existence. So also, what determines what reality they end up in when they travel through time...wouldnt they always stay in their current plane?

Like Windexed said, its enough to drive you nuts if you think about it too much.

also as far as 12 Monkeys goes
***SPOILERS FOR 12 MONKEYS***

at the end on the plane, the lead female scientist from the future that sent Bruce Willis' character back in time was on the plane with the guy who released the virus. I always took this as she went back to learn prevent the virus...or at least further spread of it since at this point it was already released.
also, with his voice message, when they first sent him back it was because of the message the girl left on the machine, then the other guy came back based on the message Willis left. I mean, i see how that must have took place otherwise he wouldnt have seen himself shot (man that was trippy) but if they had that info, why couldnt they start off with that information/message instead of the one about the army of the 12 Monkeys that wasnt accurate to their cause?

*** POSSIBLE HARRY POTTER (3RD BOOK/STORY) SPOILERS ***
This is more along the lines of the Harry Potter take on time travel in that when they went back everything they did actually took place before they went back because they didnt really alter anything, they were already there when it 'originally' happened. There seems to be hints of this in BttF, at least in my opinion

*** TERMINATOR 3 ****
again, there are some time line changes, but they also have events that seem to have always taken place. Like he said at the end, we were never supposed to prevent it, only survive it. In this aspect nothing changed, but at the same time, the people that became his lieutenants were killed so that will change the future. and the original date of D-Day was pushed back, but when it came down to it, they couldnt prevent it, they could only delay it.

*** END ALL SPOILERS ***

Chaltab, i understand the theme of the movie, but do you see what im saying about how their is really only 2 events, the newspaper and Marty teaching George McFly how to stand up for himself, that show any evidence of change?

Im currently watching the third show, and this one appears to have more that will change (i dont quite remember from when i last saw it) But even being 20 minutes into it nothing has happened that will cause a noticable change (well except i know that Doc's death and also the picture of Doc with the clock tower will change) but even the changes that do occur are really fairly subtle.

besides, its just more of a food for thought type thing and thats why i didnt limit it to just back to the future but included type travel in the topic.

Also, you said you dislike the missing Yub Nub song, but what about the rest of the changes to that scene, ie the celebrations in other cities, you said you liked these, or at least the toppling Emperor statue. What makes these more obvious visual changes acceptable but not an audio change
(1) Cleaning - Replacing models with CGI is equivalent to cleaning up the movie & erasing the squares from around the models. Same scene, but now it looks real, instead of fake.

i disagree, replacing is not the same as cleaning up. removing the matte lines around the tie fighters and removing the whole tie figher matte lines and all and replacing it with a digital tie fighter is to completely different things. plus cgi doesnt always make it look more real, many people find the unnatural brightness of cgi to look less real than real life models.

Quote

(2) Audio - I have no more desire to hear the original "flat" 2-channel stereo than I want to see fake-looking models w/ black squares around them. Go ahead and remix it for 5.1 surround.

thats you, i actually would like to hear the 'flat' 2 channel stereo, if only to see what it was like. the beauty of dvds is that both of those options could be on the disc too. because, yes i do like my 5.1 sound. so a remixed version of the sound would be great. but a remixed version that is still accurate to the original...not one that changes voices, rescores music, adds sound effects, drowns out the sound in certain parts, or reverses audio channels. I know there have been many different sound mixes of the movies, and everyone has the one that they first heard and consider to be the real sound mix. and it may be impossible to include all of those, but despite what you say there are problems with the current 5.1 sound mix. Im not saying i have anything against an all new sound mix, but include the original theatrical sound mix(es) because thats how the movie originally was. Would i like him to include the sound mix i remember? absolutely, do i realize that so does everyone else so this is very expensive/time consuming/maybe not possible to do? yes the theatrical mixes and a new 5.1 mix would be fine and doable.

Quote

(3) Subtraction - I hate subtraction. I don't like that Lucas took away songs that are burned into my skull (yub-nub & the original song in Jabba's Lair). It's like giving candy to a kid, and then taking it away. MEAN, and the part of the SE I don't like.

i can argue that removing the old special effects is the same thing, many people get enjoyment out of the 'at the time state of the art' special effects. why is it ok to take that away from them but not ok to remove Yup-Nub or Lapti Nek

Quote

(4) Changes - The added creatures wandering through Mos Eisley don't change the flow of the scene. We still have Luke & Obi-Wan asking for directions, same as always. The good stuff is still there.

as well as new stuff that wasnt part of the original movie, that does distract some people from the flow of the scene if only because its new and jarring and they can see its obvious cgi-ness

(5) Adding - The toppling emperor's statue and parties on distant worlds are added scenes. We still see Luke, Leia, et cetera celebrating their victory, same as always. The good stuff is still there.

but its not the same, because now its just some global celebration of the whole galaxy as apposed to the SMALL band of rebels who made a major victory. we connected with those characters...not some unknown/faceless 'extras' on a planet we never saw (except now with the PT) that would not have necessarily gotten word of the victory, let alone been able to open celebrate as there would still be stormtroopers loyal to the Empire.

NOW I HAVE QUESTIONS FOR YOU:
Ever read the books Tale of Two Cities or Oliver Twist or David Copperfield? Those are *not* the original versions. The original versions were published in newspapers for daily reading, and the books versions are "special editions" with re-worked story and re-writing. Do you think Charles Dickens' "special editions" of his books are as wrong as George Lucas' re-working of Star Wars?

Should Dickens' have left his books "as is" without changes, as originally published in the newspaper?

Why is it okay for book authors to make changes (Dickens/Twain/Bronte all made changes), but unacceptable for another author (Lucas)? Why the double standard?

troy

first off, nice use of bold, really emphasises the personal level of the arguement

have i read those books? no

do i think its wrong? depends, can i still go and read the original prints somewhere. if so no, its not wrong.

should he have left his books unchanged? yes and no, its his work, he can make changes, but yes, he should leave the originally published versions available for a) historical reasons b) people that may not like the changes he made because whether he likes it or not people will become attached to those original versions and reject his new versions even if there is no logical basis and the new versions really are with out a doubt, unarguably better...if only for the reason that thats not how they remember it.

why is it ok for books and not movies? where did i say that. looks like someone is putting words in my mouth...what did you call this? strawman arguement? it was you that was overusing this word in another thread wasnt it? (if not my apologies)

why the double standard? again, dont see the double standard as i didnt say it was ok for authors to do the same. and personally i dont have a problem with it as long as the other versions are available.

plus not all of Lucas' changes are reworked. Because of the medium he is presenting his work on changing an actor be it just their voice, or the actual replacement of that actor is more than a rewriting. Did Dickens' changes include changing the physical description of characters or areas? I dont know because as I said i havent read the books you mentioned. If they did though, were the changes because of plot points he made to better the story, or just cause he felt like giving joe shmoe blond hair instead of black.

Honestly, I think if all Lucas did was clean up the film and remove errors/matte lines and the like, there would be a lot less complaints about the changes. Yes im sure some people would still complain but I think some people would have been fine with it.

Plus, Lucas hides behind his 'I couldnt accomplish this with the technology available at the time' arguement which you have yourself quoted in defense of certain scenes (Jabba in ANH). But did technology prevent Greedo from shooting first? or using a younger actor at the end of jedi? or including the scenes from other planets? Better yet, did technology limit the actual story that Lucas could write for the novel versions, becase as we know there are 'scenes' in the novel that arent in the movies. But their are scenes in the SE's that arent in the novels. So if he really wanted to show the different planets back when he first made the story, he could have done so in the book, which, to my recollection, he didnt.
