***The ADigitalMan non-Star Wars DVD Info and Feedback Thread***

Hi ADM,

Just downloaded your 'Wizard Of Oz' via bit torrent. Now, Ive had a quick look at the files and it seems that to listen to the Floyd audio, you need to switch it on ni the features. However, I burn my dvds with nero and have no idea how to make a 'proper' dvd using the menu included. Can you help?

weren't these just vob files in the torrent? if so just burn the video_ts folder to a dvd using the video dvd option and it will give you the dvd exactly as ADigitalMan created it.

Not Approved.

The guy that made the case to the head librarian said that she said it was way to illegal for the library.
I call bullshit on her, but whatever.

So much for being nice there anymore.

umm, its not bullshit...it is illegal even if they have a copy of the laser discs. now if the library goes and takes their copy and makes a dvd backup of that, then its a legal copy.

ive said this in another thread, as was told to me by a friend who works in the LoC archiving LP's. for it to be a backup and legal, it needs to be a backup of your copy, not a backup of someone elses copy. even if they are the exact same disc.

Episode I Digital Yoda Images!!!!

Actually, generally on this site, i dont really see people looking down on their views. they may dissagree with them, and question them, but they never (minus a few exceptions) are actually negative about opposing views.

also, i think what your missing is the whole concept of change for advancement or to move forward vs change for the sake of change.

was/is there anything wrong with the Yoda in ESB and Jedi? If you answer that truthfully its no, he was pretty darn realistic. Sure you can do things with a cgi version that you cant with a puppet, but they both have their pro's and con's. Cgi stands out especially when inserted into an 25+ year old movie. so would it look more life like? nope, probably not. even if it does, would the amount of work and time that has to go into the change be worth it. No, why not spend that time/money/resources removing matte lines, or getting the color level set properly instead of making changes that has nothing wrong with it.

in my opinion the worse possible justification for any change to the OT is so that it fits better with the PT. Its just backwards. The OT while chronologically takes place after the PT still came out first, so there is no reason that the 'facts' that it set up werent able to be followed. I would take the same thing if the PT came out before the OT then he went back to change the PT to fit the OT. How hard is it to make a story you wrote fit in with another story you wrote.

when did you become the voice of the manglers?

and really, i never understood why Star Trek and Star Wars fans can never seem to get along (minus the few that are fans of both).

and um, i seriously doubt the Manglers would put a hit out on Jay.

Star Wars DVD Covers
Time
This seems like the best spot for this request.

I know there are various 'Ink Saver' covers out, but i was wondering if anyone has made any completely black and white (grayscale) covers that can be printed out on non color printers. I was thinking of printing some covers out on a laser printer (not color) and figured if designed in black and white i could prob get some nice looking covers for some of the many versions i have. would be like super ink saver covers as it would only use black

the top dvd sales almost always (if not always) have the widescreen versions selling more copies than the full screen version. some of the widescreen advocate pages show this data, and im sure its available elsewhere. usually its displayed as the movie and its rank in the weekly sales. so for instance it would show ROTS - Widescreen : 1 and ROTS - Fullscreen : 5 which would mean widescreen was the top seller and fullscreen was the 5th top seller.

remember, if they sell more widescreen movies they will order more for their stock, and the reverse is true for fullscreen. so if they order 1000 widescreen, and 50 fullscreen. then sell half of each, they still have a ton more widescreen than fullscreen (500 vs 25). so you cant make the shelfwarming statement without knowing the initial stock/order levels

you mean as Lucas intended back in 77 or back in 83 after Jedi came out? How about in 95 after he released the Original Trilogy for the last time as it was seen in theatres. Or perhaps you refer to how he intended it to be seen in 97 when he released the special editions. but then again you could be talking about his 'final' version of how it should be seen in 04 when he released the official dvds. though based on talk, come 07 all these versions will be obsolete cause lucas would have changed his mind again and released a new version of how he has always intended them to be seen.

why do people still defend him on his 'this is how i intended it but didnt have the technology back then' how did he not have technology to make greedo shoot first? answer, he did, it was just NEVER his intention until 97 to do so. End of story. 85% of the changes actually hurt the flow of the story,10% are completely useless, and the other 5% are the kinds of fixes he should have made where errors and actually technical limitations were corrected.

Books you would like to make into movies.
Time
cause multiple people have said hobbit and similarian.

isnt the hobbit actually 'in the works' or being talked about? I thought i heard Jackson was doing this after King Kong? or is that just a rumor?

similarian, how the heck will this be made into a movie? I havent read it, but from my understanding it is a) a very hard (not easy to get into type thing) read b) basically a history of middle earth

however i do think i heard it has a lots of shorter/little stories in it since it is a history, so maybe a tv mini series type thing could be made where each episode is one of the stories. but seriously, from what ive heard of this (want to read it but like i said heard its hard to get into, my one friend said only way he could 'read' it was getting the audio book which ive been trying to track down but local library doesnt have it) it wouldnt make a good book, be kinda like making the appencies of LOTR into a movie.

Super Smash Bros Melee Music
Time
I've ripped it (128k mp3) I'll try to remember to post it when i get home. If you want it at a higher bitrate i can do that, just post what bit rate here and ill re-rip it when i get home. Ill rip and upload it at the highest bitrate requested providing (or at least the highest i can encode at thats closest to the requested rate) as people can always reencode it to a lower bitrate if they want.

Also, the files are named using the conductor and orchestra as the artist as this is what was on freedb. I can change that to Super Smash Bros Melee if people would prefer that. again, popular opinion will make my choice (you can always rename the files using tag and rename, great program)

I was just gonna chime in and say this, while it is technically legal to make a backup of your laserdisc, ts not enough to just own the disc and grab someone elses backup. the backup you have technically needs to come from your disc for it to fit into this category. so basically laserman is correct on the above quoted point.
