However, I didn't like when they made him into that blue electricity thing around '97. That was just... stupid-looking. How did they explain getting him out of that transformation? Or did they just reboot the continuity?

I have that comic...never read it...I just bought it cause the glow in the dark cover was cool my initial thought on the idea though was that it was such a radical change and i didnt really like it.

That would be awsome...at minimum id love a copy of the tape. if someone can transfer it to dvd that would be even better (I dont have a stand alone vcr to hook up to my capture card)

So, Nic Cage just had a baby and named him Kal-El, which is pretty funny when you consider that he was tied up in this Superman Movie for a while.

The kid may be made fun of growing up, but at least he wasn't named 'Phineas Hazel' or named after something you eat (Gwyneth Paltrow's baby Apple will most likely have a sibling named Banana or Orange, while Courtney Cox Arquette has little Coco).

Gwyneth Paltrow wants to have another baby...her reason? She wants a Pair.

Heard that on Jay Leno the other night (hey I only get 3 channels) and I was reminded of it while re-reading the last few posts.

ps. OMG, as i typed this, they just said on the radio that there is a rumor that Gwyneth Paltrow is pregnent with a second child.

I love this movie...i would love to see a copy of this workprint anyone have a copy?

Some of the differences i think id like, but others not to sure about...probably cause it changes the story as im used to it and first saw it. What would be real interesting is a combined version of the two films, basically using the workprint footage to make an extended cut of the released version. I wonder if any of these scenes are available on the dvd as cut scenes...ill need to check that out when i get home. It seems like parts may be able to be restored from the dvd (mainly the cuts) but im sure that most, if not all, of the extended/different scenes wouldnt be accessible without the workprint.

how much could have changed that its not compatible one (minor) version back

thats why you should always know what your programing for...me, i get to decide what version we'll be using for apps so its all good

it shouldnt require a full rewrite though, could probably just modify some parts. any SQL statements should be the same (unless they added support for new commands in 4.1 from 4.0. its probably most likely the connection method. is this for a business site or your own personal site?

Wanted: Totally random item request (harddrive)
Time

Ok, Im looking for a 10 GB IBM Travelstar harddrive. It needs to be working as far as the reader arm goes and such…if the circuit board doesnt work thats fine. Im gonna play frankenstien on it and try and put the platters from one drive (same make/model) into the new drive so i can get the data off of the harddrive i have that is messed up (the reader arm is busted)

If anyone can help me out send me an email (hitchaepi @ gmail dot com) its also in my profile. I know there are some on ebay but id prefer not to spend what their asking since im using it for parts and have a good chance of just ruining the drive. also $10+ to ship a drive that cant weigh more than 3 pounds is a little steep (should be able to ups ground that accross country for about $6)

I am willing to pay a reasonable price for the drive (but will of course accept freebies ). I could also send you a few of the various edits/transfers i have for ‘payment’ if you’d like.

thanks

What was the name of the series where Thanatos(sp?) got the Glove of Power(?) and the five stones which made him ultra powerful? THAT was a fun read as well.

I always wondered, though: why didn't Wolverine cut off his arm, instead of stabbing him in the heart? Wouldn't cutting the glove off have taken away his powers?

The Infinity Gauntlet. My brother has a poster of the cover. Ive never read the comic but I think my brother has it so maybe ill borrow that next time im at my parents as dont think he took it with him.

Well im using .NET now myself (currently C#) and I have no problems (well i do but its cause im still running the 2002 version it would be better with the 2003 or 2005 version)

when i use databases i pretty much write my own front end cause its not something that an admin consol is needed, its usually just insert, selects, updates, and deletes. most of my projects that use MySQL are actually done in Perl, either a windows type gui or a web based cgi script.

i use it MySQL for some of my projects but ive never used the gui for it so i dont know. i know from connecting to it from programs i write you need to set proper permissions for the user. the manual (downloadable) has instructions on how to do this and a google search would probably turn up some useful results...but i cant say if thats even the problem.

converting MPEG2 to AVI
Time
hey, i have a similar problem. I have an mpeg video i need to convert to avi but when i use virtualdubmod for this i can never get it to not loose frames. ive done this before and never had a problem with it, but for some reason on this video it will get choppy at points. the mpeg video plays fine, the problem is only in the resulting avi.

I've tried rebooting my computer figuring maybe the computer was just lagging. Ive tried doing a completely uncompressed file as well as a huffy encoded file and the result always has dropped frames (though not always in the same spot) I did get it with one program (forget the name) but when i load that file into virtualdub for filtering and such im having problems with the sound file (it says it cant convert it) i checked the file info on it and it seems to have the sound in the format and bitrate i want so i figured id try and filter and encode the file to xvid to my normal settings but the file ends up being about 60 megs bigger than the target size i entered (i know the file will be fine at the target size since ive done similar shows of the same size using the settings im trying to use)

I will try the program that ReverendBeastly posted when i get home tonight. but i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this and how to get around it. thanks.

Jokes thread : Reloaded
Time
saw this one on another forum i read from time to time.

A young guy from Missouri moves to Florida and goes to a big "everything under the roof department store" looking for a job.
The manager says " Do you have any sales experience?"
The kid says " Yeah, I was a salesman back home in Missouri."
Well, the boss liked the kid so he gave him the job.
"You start tomorrow, Il come down after we close and see how you did."
His first day on the job was rough but he got through it.
After the store was locked up, the boss came down, "How many sales did you make today?"
The kid says "one."
The boss says, "just one?!! Our sales people average 20 to 30 sales a day!
How much was the sale for?
The kid says " $101,237.64"
The boss says, "$101,23764? WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SELL?"
Kid says, " First I sold him a small fish hook, then I sold him a medium fish hook, then I sold him a larger fish hook, then I sold him a new fishing rod, then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down at the coast, so I told him he was gonna need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him that twin engine Chris Craft.
Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition."
The boss said, " A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a BOAT AND A TRUCK??"
The kid says, " No, he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his wife and I said, "Well, your weekend's shot, you might as well go fishing.."

I totally agree. Daylight savings time sucks. Some places in the US dont even use it (Arizona). Also, I was told that farmers (which is the main reason it was implemented) dont use it as it messes up their animals. dont know how true that is. I for one think we should keep the fall back, but get rid of the spring ahead. I like gaining the extra hour of sleep but hate loosing it in the spring

somewhat off topic, ive been trying to find 'This Island Earth' on dvd, but could only find a non working avi torrent of it. anyone have this?

It would actually be more like the 30TH Aniversary, wouldn't it?

I believe he's refering to the '97 SE release, the first time Lucas went back and started making his changes to fit his 'original' vision

James Cameron's Battle Angel - the beginning of a live action anime feeding frenzy?
Time
The Guyver was a live action movie from an anime. It has Mark Hamill in it too.

I may be biased because 1) i saw the live action first b) i like sci-fi in general 4) i enjoy those 'bad'/'cheesy' sci-fi movies (not that i think this was a bad movie) d) i like the superhero type story

Generally the reviews i read for it seem to be pretty good as well, though the second one i think does better. I found out about the anime a few years after and bought the series and on dvd along with the 2 live action movies. Has anyone else seen this one? What were your opinions on it?
