The Last Jedi: Legendary (Released)
Time

Thanks Hal for making this fanedit, I’ve finally added a review on Fanedit:

Well the hints in its title Legendary this fanedit definitely is. On their own these amendments might not sound like much but all together makes all the difference to the end product. I got what the movie was trying to saying in the theatre and can appreciate the film because of that which is best said by Yoda:
“Luke, we are what they grow beyond” and Lukes: “Its time for the Jedi, to end.” quotes after all what are Jedi at the end of the day a group of religious force sensitive individuals so why not consider a new group with the next generation of force sensitive people and in turn open up that all to familiar galaxy far, far away.

With that in mind this fanedit strengthens this core message by tightening the story eg perfectly removing the unnecessary Canto Bight chase scene and cutting small scenes or quotes which leaves you less distracted and concentrating more on characters motives. Adding deleted scenes like Luke morning the loss of Han is a must to have here but my only problem is the omission of the other deleted scene, the third lesson were Luke shows Ray that the Jedi’s ways are ultimately floored as he tells her that rushing to help the caretakers is not the Jedi’s way. I can understand why this scene was not added back as Hals removed all scenes with caretakers to show Luke was truly on his own on the island but adding that third lesson would of paid off better with the stories flow even if it meant keeping the other few scenes with the caretakers in the film.

Overall this fanedits achieved what it set out to do by strengthening the original story and making that force sensitive broom boy scene at the end make more sense ;]
Well done Hals

Edit: Also must say listened to Hals commentary track and was nice to hear someone talk fondly of the original trilogy perticualy Revenge of The Jedi and like me was the first Starwars movie I had as a kid and how the originals shouldnt need editing of any sort except to remove any “special” CGI treatments.

Watched it recently, it’s much better but on a personal subjective level, it doesn’t quite cut out enough for me. Biggest problem is that you left in the kids at the end which now make zero sense in the context of the film. On a technical level it was masterful as always though.

I used to agree with you, but just assume a passage of time. The kids don’t have to be from Canto Bight, they can just be kids anywhere inspired by Luke.

Agree thats exactly how I took it and also this scene needs to be in it for future starwars movies context. Just a same Lukes 3rd lession didnt make an appearance.

Anyone aware if the re-do of EpIV was released in the end no reply from PM can imagine Smudgers inbox is quite busy at the moment.

I PM’d Smudger for it but got no response. Seems like he’s been pulled away from the project for the time being.

Same here no response wasnt sure if I missed him releasing it. Dont want to pester him anymore hope Smudger gets the chance to finish this quality work hes doing with these edits.

Agree on all these exactly what I thought except Han should shoot 1st that scene was a good character builder.

He still should shoot first, I’m saying when Beckett move his hand towards his gun Han shoots then and doesn’t let the conversation go longer.

Valid point DZ-330, not sure why Mauls getting the most interest seemed like a valid charactor arc and nice surprise at the end if anyone should get the snip its that over the top droid.
Mauls gonna look bad if hes been brought back from the dead and 20 years older from when we last saw him right.

First things I noticed:

Remove opening and “unneeded” text
(A long time… straight to the action)

Trim slug lady at the beginning to have less humor

Recut so Han says his name is “Han Solo” not just Han

Trim overly quippy dialogue from Han throughout the film

If possible, remove Chewie subtitles, we never needed them before and we don’t need them to make the scenes work

Keep, but trim down L3 politics… god some of them were “forced” 😉

Trim over-the-top space monster moments

Cut it so as soon as Beckett goes towards his gun Han shoots him

Agree on all these exactly what I thought except Han should shoot 1st that scene was a good character builder.

JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit: turning a mediocre trilogy into one really good film (Released)
Time

eldusto84
Your edit of the Hobbit trilogy is amazing and makes the story so much more interesting to watch and follow plus having the extra scenes omitted made into a seperate film was a very nice touch.

Definitely prefer not having a golden dragon but Smaug busting out of the castle wall then shaking off the liquid “something?” off himself was a bit jarring to see, might of been better with cut to Smaug mid flight after the speech then Bilbo walking through dragon sided hole in wall thus cutting out the golden shake completely.

Well done eldusto84 on your edit truly epic stuff and already a fav to the people I’ve shown it to.

Some of the info is incorrect, mostly retaining to some of the new sounds added to ANH. For instance, the sound of Leia’s blaster was not exclusive to the '97 version as the video implies. It was originally in the '77 mono mix. 3-PO’s tractor beam line as well as the Stormtrooper’s ‘Close the blast doors’ line was also sourced from the mono mix.

well pointed out crissrudd4554 I tend have a hard time remembering all the changes myself what with the quality fanedits its been awhile since Ive watched my dusty blurays/dvds :]

These are the changes IMO that would be in my ideal edit of the movies:

A New Hope
Title crawl 2011 @ 1:05
Expanded Tatooine shot @ 2:13
Sandcrawler scene 2011 @ 2:19
C3PO “we’ve stopped” Sandcrawler @ 2:40
Beru “Tell Your uncle” @ 2:55
Bens hut scene 2011 @ 3:30
Mos Eisley landscape scene 2011 @3:36
Storm troopers combing desert 2011 -Only part of scene @ 4:58 (Best in Harmys Partly Despec edition)
cantina entrance 2011 @ 5:08 (Best in Harmys Partly Despec edition)
well Harmys Partly Despec edition for all of Mos Eisley really :]
Adywans edit for his hand in the cantin fight scene & his epic death star battle edit

The Force Awakens : Fan Edit Ideas
Time

Im glad we (mostly) seem to agree that only a few scenes need to be cut and a few scenes added to even the pace but as a whole the movie was great and could only improve by keeping the changes minimal.
My view’s are like most:

  1. Cut the pirates and Han meetup plus the cgi tenticle monster scene, maybe just see it on the monitors without the full shots.

  2. Change the Starkiller base subplot or at least keep that battle minimal. Think the idea Hal9000 mentions in previous posting of making it so the base is targeting the rebels planet would strengthen the plot.

  3. Lukes scene lasts way too long with the wide spinny pan shot as Rey just stands there.
