Yeah but coming up with potential explanations for things aren’t as fun as complaining about literally everything possible.

🤣😂🤣 Feel you on that one, I’m really enjoying this series and that baby Yoda idea opens so many possibilities not touched on before. 👍

Idea & Info: The Mandalorian - Film Noir Style...
Time

I was playing with VLCs filters to see what the mandelorian would look like with film grain to add that dusty film vibe of old and then took it a step further by making it black and white and letting only the red colour shine through, the results are an impressive Sin City style and make repeat viewings a very interesting watch.

With the caretakers being removed, it might be good to trim Snoke’s line about destroying the entire island.

I’ve always thought it was weird that he would specifically single out the island for destruction. We’ve kind of come to expect nothing less than total planetary destruction from the big bad forces in Star Wars, so I kind of just assumed that he’d take care of the whole planet.

Agree, I always thought that line sounded flat as we are used to them decimating complete planets by now. I assumed it was the Jedi history that Snoke wanted gone as opposed to specifically the caretakers it does sounds better without that line but guess its a majority vote.

I do wonder what a cut of TFA and TLJ would be like that strips all (subjectively) ~’unearnest’ humor. Part of what made the original SW great was it’s sincerity.

👍 Definitely agree on that, at this point less in this case isn’t more.

Regarding Luke throwing the sabre isn’t there an edit where he just drops the sabre in front of him then walks off there by cutting out the tongue in cheek humour from that scene might make for an interesting watch to get that in the Legends edit.

Possible small fixes are:

@ 23:35 - Luke Fishing Scene
Issue: Rey shouts careful as the jedi master jumps over to the cliff on the pole.
Fix: Possibly cutting to Lukes face as he looks over and removing her shout out as if to say follow me now.

@ 1:13:10 - Rey vs Luke
Issue: As Rey fells Luke and holds his sabre over him the jedi master looks up helplessly.
Fix: By cutting to Rey unigniting the sabre strait after Luke holds himself with the force from the fall we can remove the initial shocked expression which helps play out the my mind is not in the fight viewpoint.

I completely and utterly fail to understand why either of these things are “issues” …

Sorry but if you don’t get it then you utterly fail 😉

I jest but seriously theres no real fail here its all subjective fixes at this point as Hal has resolved the major issues with his edit and whats left is subtle changes and left to personal opinion and thats just mine. ✌

Hey, thanks for taking the time to write up some ideas.

I’m not sure Luke beckoning Rey to pursue him during the fishing scene makes a lot of sense, as it’s bookended by variations of “leave me alone.”

No problems Hal, that missing scene does indeed have a good message but I get why it might not be the best of fits for your edit, a completely secluded and alone Luke is a strong alternative.

What I ment to convey with the fishing scene with Rey is she is to worried about the Jedi masters safety but hes clearly a big boy who can look after himself and doesnt really need her shout out careful but at this stage in your edit its all just very small subtle stuff that works with or without now.

Watched your v3 workprint from start to finish last night and am happy to see the changes are subtle but all are worth the attention with the Canto Bight balcony scene adding more depth to the good vs bad view and just that bit more screen time to better explain broom boys charactor for whom I dont mind. Also the new phasmas corpse scene isnt too in your face and I really like how it works reminds me of how Bobba Fett met his rather humble demise 😁. Would be nice to not have Rey interpret Chewie for Luke also.

At this stage for me The Last Jedi Legendary edit is pretty much the best it can be there are a few slight frame cuts and one deleted scene that would be nice to be added but understand why its not put in this edit.

@ 1:37:52 - Praetorian Guards Missing Blade
Issue - The infirmus praetorian guard missing blade scene which you see him holding in his left hand one moment then badly CGIed out the next.
Fix: Cut from Kylos zoom in to the moment after the sabre strikes @ 1:37:53 where his left bladed hand is not visible we can then assume he lost the missing blade during the stuggle with Rey.

And now the missing scene which I know wont go in because it goes against your efforts in this edit but hey can’t blame a StarWars fan for trying 😉, maybe if you could have a version of your edit with just only a very trimmed down scene with the caretakers introduction from Luke just so we can get Lukes deleted third lession scene in some form into The Last Jedi Legendary. Mate everytime I watch this in my head I see that missing scene which works so well to explain what Luke is trying to convey to Rey and us the audiense that hey the Jedi of old would rather meditate over “their” force then get involved in other peoples problems.

Thanks again Hal for your efforts 👍

Thanks Hal for your edits although I enjoyed the films at the cinema your edits have been my go to for both TFA & TLJ.
I’m happy to see you’ve got a v3 workprint for TLJ which I’m currenly in the process of getting and reading the changes I’m glad to see they are only subtle and also make sense specificaly Kylo explaining Rays parents as this is expected to be mentioned in ROS.

My main hopes are ROS doesnt mess with your edits continuity and that the new film hopefully wont require to much editing/fixing 😉.

Will post back when I’ve watched your v3.

Anyway, if his appearance plays out the way I think it might, they could have filmed him separately from principal photography and just about anyplace they could set up a green screen. Or just manipulate old footage of him ala Marlon Brando in Superman Returns?

Yes very true, we’ll need to keep an eye out for future press info to confirm thats the case.

Also you cool with the threads new title?

Emperor palpatine

Very interesting interview with Ian McDiarmid it seems that Emperor Palpatine might not actually be in The Rise Of Skywalker at all as Ian states in the video above the laugh at the end of the trailer was from stock and he didnt know about it either until we did. Also he seems way to somber to be an active player in the new film when talking.

Plus check out what he says at the end of the interview about the word tease as if to say dont get our hopes up with fan theories.

Someone uploaded footage of the sizzle reel on YouTube. Not going to post a link, and it probably won’t be up for long, but it does look amazing. Has a very Rogue One feel to it, but with a clear Sergio Leone Western feel added to it as well. Hopefully they’ll officially upload the video soon, but I’m guessing they’re waiting for the Ep. IX hype to die down a bit first.

Also dont forget the leaked trailer from Jeremy at Geeks + Gamers aka The StarWars Toxic fandom who looked like a ghost after when he relised hes going to get into serious trouble for streaming it 😆

How’d he get a hold of a trailer? I though the conventions only showed sizzle reels, set photos, etc.

Also, you’d think a relatively well know YouTuber would have more common sense than that.

EDIT: Just looked up his YT page. Its so strange to me when someone who’s so negative towards the new SW still bothers to spend time and money going to Star Wars Celebration and even uploads footage from all the panels (incl. Ep.IX).

Hes since removed the 30min video of the trailer and him looking a little worried but I got a sneaky suspicion it was downloaded before being removed and might show up on the spleen 😉

Some of his highlights on his channel from the celebration are Kathleen Kennedy Suddenly has a plan & also Interview - Trump Supporter at StarWars Celebration. Seriously the guys a joke.

STAR WARS: Episode I - THE ANCIENT LORE [Episode I Remade /Proj started: 2014] (WIP)
Time

Hi Anjohan,
After watching your edit heres my review, simply put very well done…

https://ifdb.fanedit.org/star-wars-episode-i-the-ancient-lore/

Review:
When it comes to watching Episode I I’ve personally avoided watching it for so long I barely remember the film and as such also avoided the many fanedits over the years for fears of bring back those bad memories. As its been so long I finally gave in and watched Anjohans edit and I’m glad I did.

What drew me to this edit was the reimagining of the narrative and using other source material to expand on much needed character development while omitting offensive scenes throughout some examples SPOILERS like expanding on the trade federations backstory to strengthen their motives, allowing the villains more screen time to give a sense of peril and also better introducing Dookus character to the storyline and reintroducing Jar-Jars as a member of the Jedis original crew sent from corusent. Is this film perfect? no. can the few issues be fixed? yes, quite easily.

The main issues are really only technical ones like Mauls sabre changing orange in some scenes, although you get the narrotive point better with Dookus hologram throughout it still looks out of place in some scenes eg Jedi council scene @ 00:56:23 and some clunky subtitles one example of this is during the original films opening scenes on the trade federations ship which is now shown later in the film when Qui-Gons using his sabre to melt the bridges blast doors these are the new lines:

Nute Gunray: “close the blast doors… Were you born stupid?”
Rune: “this guy just wont give up!”
Nute Gunray: “shut up, your encouraging him” – encouraging? Should read something more like "shut up, stop admiring them!

Also something out of place is the heavy metal rift first heard at Tattooine when entering Mos Espa and the Maul scenes which brings you out of the Starwars film. Lastly Qui-Gons close up death scene @ 01:27:56 repeats itself but not sure if its intentional though.

Overall a very good edit from Anjohan and a definite improvement over the theatrical, looking forward to the improvements version 2 of the Ancient Lore will bring.

Yes, since it’s lossless. The DTS track had to be encoded to that spec. For viewing/listening, the DTS should be good enough for anyone. But if an editor wants to use part of my project’s audio, the lossless file is there as a source equal to what was in my NLE.

ChainsawAsh said:

The DTS track is a standard lossy DTS that I encoded for Hal. I don’t have the ability to encode to lossless DTS-HD MA, unfortunately.

I see ask because was considering muxing the lossless track file into the mkv if it was a better version then the DTS.
