Turksish Star Wars subtitle help

The version of Turkish Star Wars seeded on 2005-12-20 by OldSkoolFan@myspleen does include subtitles in the form of an .srt file.

Last May in a.b.starwars, Starkiller posted the exact same .avi along with a different .srt file and an .smi file for use with Windows Media Player.
I can provide those if you like.

FWIW, it's cross-posted to a.b.dvd too, to which The Starkiller gave a heads-up a couple days ago.

I grabbed a few of the parts hoping to sneak a peak, but it seems the 7-zip format isn't as friendly as rar with respect to partial extractions. It seems to want all the parts present before it will extract anything, unlike unrar.
And while it may use some sort of checksumming internally, the 7-zip program doesn't seem to display any checksums the way unrar does when given the "list contents" option.
My first experience with 7-zip, but so far I'm underwhelmed.

Thanks for the clarification Metallaxis. It's comforting to know you've done a straight copy/paste without using some ripping app.

Still it seems odd to me that files ocpmovie sent you are different than files he sent segaflip, and different again to the files sent to MoveAlong.
Seems like at Orange Cow Productions "NTSC" means Never Twice the Same Checksum.

I'm curious to know which files are newest.
Too bad BitTorrent doesn't preserve dates and times of files -- IMO a shortcoming of the BT protocol.
Near as I can tell (considering time zones) segaflip's .IFO files are dated 2005-10-11 11:34 GMT.
Metallaxis, would you share with us the date/times of .IFO files on your original disc? Are they older or newer ?

I've noticed that
Video Manager Menu Cell Address Table (VMGM_C_ADT) and
Video Manager Menu VOBU Address Map (VMGM_VOBU_ADMAP)
are missing from the .IFO files seeded by Metallaxis.

I'm wondering if he might have used some application software to "rip" the files
rather than simply copying them with native OS commands.

The .IFOs posted by segaflip are different, and do contain VMGM_C_ADT and VMGM_VOBU_ADMAP.

arcadayn, here's something you might like to try:
Keep the .VOB files from Metallaxis (they're identical to segaflip's)
while replacing the .IFO & .BUP files with the ones segaflip posted.

Where to get them ?

Help: looking for 'Heroes & Villians' in NTSC??

No, be careful there. Those file names are Viper's, not mine.
final.zip contains ESB English subs, but Episode5.zip is newer, and it fixes an error that was present in "final"

Keep in mind .SRT files are plain text, so you can use FC.EXE (Windows) or "diff" command (UNIX/Linux/MacOSX)
to compare the differences between them.

questions about cropping/audio/bitrates

I don't recall Cowclops ever saying which method he used for v2.

Even with a digital rip you'll get a 44.1kHz sample rate from the LD which will need to be resampled at 48kHZ for DVD, so the finished product will never be "a bit accurate copy of the orginal laserdisc PCM" anyway.
Since interpolation is involved, the quality of the software used would then come into play.
Big money professional software might well give better results than a freeware app.

An analog capture @48kHz through a professional soundcard (not the AC97 chip found on bargain-basement motherboards) might sound better than a digital rip processed by a poorly-coded resampling algorithm.

And unless I'm mistaken, I think only the newer discs have a digital soundtrack on them.
Analog capture is the only way to get the '77 stereo mix from the older LDs methinks.
Of course it should still be considered lossless, even if it's from an anolog capture, if it's in PCM format on DVD.
[And a digital rip would be considered lossy if it's later encoded to AC3 on DVD.]

I guess "soon" is open for interpretation....

One year ago the EditDroid team expressed their wish that their work not be made public.
Then Blaksvn torrented it, and later segaflip posted it.
And I'm glad they did!

Apologies for hijacking segaflip's thread.
He can post (or not post) whatever he wants of course.

In either case, your checksums and timestamp match the ones I posted here on 2005-08-17
so it seems we both have the same version, whichever version it is....

With all due respect, how can you be sure he's got D3
if he didn't get it directly from you ?

It seems I overestimated.

JoJoDiff gave a total patch size roughly 3MB
while Xdelta came in under a meg!

(I didn't try Moth3r's PPG suggestion.)

Yours has one more chapter than his (but the same total frame count).
Your Reville/McDiarmid dialogue doesn't play correctly from the Easter egg menu -- it stops before the Emperor starts talking.
segaflip's version plays the entire scene from the Easter egg menu.
Your's appears to be older than his (according to the file timestamps) although I think you're both in the same time zone (according to your usenet headers).
I wonder if yours is a pre-production prototype? I hope you got a price break.

MoveAlong's CRC-32 checksums:
VTS_01_2.VOB 75405A1F
VTS_01_3.VOB AC9E873E
VTS_01_4.VOB 0B69BAE0
VTS_01_5.VOB D17CF33F

segaflip's CRC-32 checksums:
VTS_01_2.VOB 1ADF3D09

VTS_01_4.VOB E833D9AB

Whoever torrents this probably ought to first make sure he's got the finished version and not a work-in-progress.
