Episode II by the Phantom Editor

Yes @demonoid

gigshaft seeded both I.II and II.I

Actually he seeded I.II twice -- first as an ISO but his PC crashed midway through, then he switched to a Mac and reseeded as a DMG file.
The torrent comments tell how to convert it back to ISO.

When I ran the conversion, the program gave a non-fatal error message when a 32bit variable overflowed, presumably because the total file size is greater than 2^32. Despite the error, the resulting ISO seems to work fine on my standalone player.

Never satisfied, for grins I opened the old torrent with my converted ISO. I was 99% complete. Another peer was still hanging on to the old torrent, and he had the missing bits, so between us we had a distributed copy. We both finished, as did at least one other peer who came along later.

That old ISO torrent got deleted eventually, so if you go to demonoid now you'll only find the reseeded DMG.
I suspect gigshaft didn't understand how we were able to finish the ISO torrent, since he had never finished seeding it.

Anyway, the moral of the story is:
Even though the DMG > ISO conversion isn't identical to the original ISO, the VIDEO_TS files within them are identical.
If you see an error message during the conversion, you should still end up with correct VIDEO_TS files.

You're a demonoid member aren't you ?
gigshaft, the seeder, says he has a friend-of-a-friend connection to Mr. Nichols.
Might or might not be PROPER, but at least you can hear the commentary....

Incidentally, the original VHS-sourced version is called Episode I.I, but the DVD-sourced version with commentary is called Episode I.II
(not to be confused with MagnoliaFan's 1.2 redux of the Phantom Re-Edit a.k.a. East coast version)

Not saying you should do starfield recovery on the first go'round, but I'd place stars and garbage mattes into two distinct categories of fixes.
Garbage mattes were on the film (yes, I understand they were less visible on the silver screen comapared to 7.5 IRE video) but the stars didn't disappear until they slipped between the cracks of the NTSC scan lines.

Keep up the good work !

Problem Burning OCPmovie's Classic Editions
Time
Just for the record, that other thread I linked has a few different suggestions from a few different folks.
Of course you're welcome to try any of them, but the only one I endorse is the one I suggested, namely replacing the offending files with the ones segaflip posted to a.b.starwars.
I believe segaflip copied the files without modification; hence, I believe they're ocpmovie's original files.
I believe Metallaxis also copied the files without modification, but he didn't get his disc from ocpmovie.
I don't doubt DVD-Shrink or some other IFO editor might be able to repair the files to a working state, but I prefer to have ocpmovie's original files.
[Well, not enough to pay his price, but I prefer to use what I believe are his original files.]
Again, I'll supply the ones segaflip posted.

Rick, you've got PM.

Hey Rick, welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you downloaded the torrent from myspleen.
While I'm no fan of Nero, in this particular case Nero is right -- those VIDEO_TS.* files are b0rked.
I've got different (working) IFO/BUP files from when that disc was uploaded to Usenet group alt.binaries.starwars
Send me a private message (PM) if you'd like to try them.
Be sure to enable PMs in your user profile (they're off by default) then click my padlock icon beside this message.

Re: alternatives to Nero
I like Jorg Schilling's open-source mkisofs and his freeware cdrecord-ProDVD but I'm running Linux so your mileage may vary....

For a bit more info about this problem check out my message from February 28 in this thread.

The source is the original VHS, correct?
The only version I have is the mpeg (or maybe its an avi) from the OCPMOVIE supplement section of ROTJ.
MoveAlong encoded the AVI for ocpmovie, sourced from RowMan's Ultimate Supplemental Collection.
I think Rikter (or one of the Blaksvn brothers) captured the VHS for RowMan.

Dr_Gonzo's source was baby hum's Japanese laserdisc with hard subs.

A simple question regarding muxing AC3 and M2V/MPEG

I'd think "mplex -?" or "mplex --help" should display usage info.
The most basic form is "mplex -o output_file input_file1 input_file2 [input_file3 ...]"

I used the Linux version of mplex to mux Moth3r's mono_ntsc.ac3 with video ripped from Doctor M's RTW.
That was DVD-compliant, of course, but [my version of] mplex has a command-line switch "-f" to specify output formats, including generic MPEG1 and generic MPEG2 among others.

The higher bits, (and other headache-inducing details), keep it from giving a false-ok (a bigger problem with bigger files) by some ridiculously greater factor. CRC 32, then Md5 caught on in mainstream proggies. Par uses the md5 hash for its testing. (Don't ask me how par does its recovery, I think it has to do with magical pixie spells or something. ).
Great info JT.
Tho I say SHA1 all the way baby! with 160-bit hashes.
I've read it was developed to replace MD5.
It also happens to be what the torrent protocol uses internally.

SWESB_RTW up soon

Here's the last three lines of the SFV file inside the torrent:

; End of SFV file.
;Q2-1c5989f9621f09e
;Q2-MORJf+yzxQE=
;Q2-//8=

M, does your master SFV file have those Q2 comments at the bottom ? I wonder if those are the missing 0.1% ?

I don't know the meaning of those Q2 comments, nor did I put them there. They were already in there when segaflip posted to a.b.starwars.

The payload matches your official SFV checksums. I double-checked before I started seeding.
Fifteen files inside VIDEO_TS plus the ReadMe.txt all match.

To any leechers who are skittish: You don't have to take my word for it.
Just grab Doctor M's official SFV file (hyperlinked on the first page of this thread) and see for yourself.

Describe your history with Star Wars

Skyranger, Please do tell more . . . I'm fascinated.
No 70mm print @Glenwood ?!? Say it ain't so -- don't rape my childhood memories!

My story is similar to yours in several respects. I was eleven in the Summer of '77, and saw STAR WARS 3-4 times at the Glenwood, although it was later in the Summer so I didn't experience the queue around the outside of the building. Admission for kids twelve and under was a buck.
IIRC, Glenwood's exclusive engagement lasted for a whole year. I saw it another 1-2 times in minor theaters during Summer/Fall '78.
Not sure if the small theaters played the mono soundtrack or not, but I don't recall noticing any differences in sound mix at the time.

In 1980 I saw Empire Strikes Back at the Midland in an exclusive premier, the night before its official opening.
I won passes from AM radio station WHB by being the Nth caller and correctly answering the trivia question "What did Darth Vader describe as a 'technological terror' ?" I'm sure I've still got the movie pass; I wonder if I still have the cassette tape of me answering "Death Star" on the air ?

I graduated high school in '83, and wasn't very psyched for Jedi. I guess I thought I was "too grown up" now.
I did see it once that Summer, but don't remember where. Did the Glenwood have an exclusive run ?

In '97 saw ANH SE at the Glenwood. While I'm not now an SE fan, returning to the Glenwood was a priceless memory for sure.
Too bad it got razed.

Both *.IFO checksums match the NTSC version posted by segaflip

(I'll compare the *.VOB checksums when I get home tonight....)

They match. All files in Weyseed's VIDEO_TS are identical to the ones segaflip posted as version "DE-ANH20050525N"
so the torrent must be NTSC I'd say.
