The "Dr. Gonzo" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
As Moth3r already said many of the preservation projects discussed here, such as alternate audio tracks to match up to your GOUT video, can be found in the alt.binaries.starwars newsgroup.

Dr_Gonzo'a set was posted in the alt.binaries.dvd group 74 days ago. Giganews might be the only provider with a retention that long....

This is just good practice when transferring analogue material into the digital domain. However, because of the intentionally limited dynamics of this mix, when played side by side with the '93 mix (which also peaks at "0", but with far more dynamic range), it will seem noticeably louder.

I think it might be more appropriate to issue a second version of this at a reduced level referenced to the ’93 PCM, to better represent its place in the larger scheme
Now playing at a tele-schwa-cinema near you . . . (that's French for a.b.starwars)

Use the same delay offset as the others. It's not built-in.

Yes boba feta uploaded that one to filefactory, but he split it into 4 FLAC files.

I can only speculate why.

If you decode boba's 4 FLACs and combine them into one large WAV, it'll be 1,395,130,152 bytes.
The original WAV from Belbucus is larger (1,395,131,276) so naturally the CRC-32 won't match.

FLAC doesn't preserve the extra RIFF chunks that were present in the original WAV's non-canonical header.

However no PCM samples are lost. The "fingerprint" will match the one in my quote.
The fingerprint is the MD5 of the WAV's payload only (i.e. PCM samples stored within the WAV) and doesn't include the WAV file's header.
[Contrast the CRC-32 in my quote which is for the entire WAV file including header and extra RIFF chunks.]

Thank you Belbucus !

Belbucus writes:

... the original Dolby Stereo featured on the 35mm prints. This was a transfer of the analogue tracks of the 1985 CAV P&S set. Yes, there were alot of missing frames - including gaps as much as 1 second in length when compared to the GOUT track. Other previously documented issues included the wrong Fox logo cue, and some instances of pretty severe "wow" or sudden pitch shift. Everything has been repaired and/or filled from alternate sources, taking great care to match the EQ and level so the fixes integrate seamlessly.

All the major things have been fixed as well as alot of smaller ones. Click and pop removal was done manually
and small doses of decrackling software was applied selectively where needed.

Are you sure they line up ?

Center frame is missing from Difinitive Collection. Completely missing. Not even one field of that frame is present on DC.

Japanese Special Collection ('86), Widescreen Edition ('89) "shrinking ratio", Widescreen Edition ('92) fixed ratio
each contains only one field of that frame.

Faces contains both fields (together, not split by telecine)

Faces frame from MeBeJedi prototype (IVTCed)

Faces frame from dark_jedi (interlaced)
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/1008/32215aj6.png

It's a splice point. It's got yellow tape across the top. Nevertheless, it's a frame of film worthy of preservation.
I believe it should be inserted into X0 timecode V3.04 and beyond....

DC's 3:2 cadence is broken at that point with that frame missing.
However, once that frame is restored in its proper position, then 3:2 cadence is restored across the splice,
and also consistent with Faces cadence across the splice.

That frame is missing from GOUT

Looks like DC might be missing a field

Faces has both of those fields comprising frame 2:40:14:00 - the frame with the guy's hand nearly "touching his hair"

The "Slimtype" (LiteOn/Sony) burner in my laptop does a piss-poor job reading the thousand-or-so TY CD-Rs I've got, most of which were written by a Philips.

Expanded size: 1.2 GB
Compressed with your favourite lossless codec (FLAC, APE, SHN, etc) will fit nicely onto a single CD-ROM.

THX to John for sharing this with us !
