Star Wars - The Vintage Edit (* unfinished project *)

GOUT contains the same '93 mix in AC3 format. Obviously it's been compressed in terms of size/bitrate
and also possibly compressed in dynamic range compared to the PCM track Belbucus provided.
(I'm confident Moth3r knows this already, but other readers might not.)

Belbucus also did an "Isolated score bridged with audio from the '93 mix."
Although I haven't listened to the whole thing, I believe none of its music overlaps any of its dialog or sound effects.
Seems it would be a straightforward procedure to distill a true isolated score (music only) from it, if desired.

Molly took seventiesfilmnut's raw rip of the '85 remix (from the '89 "shrinking ratio" LD) and sync'ed it to GOUT.

Here is the most comprehensive list I've got (from Belbucus).

Any FREE M4a to wav Converters?
Time
For grins I decided to give ffmpeg.exe a try (from both websites linked above.)
Syntax is straightforward enough--something like this:
C:\>ffmpeg -i FILENAME.M4A FILENAME.WAV

Neil used Apple's lossless ALAC codec inside his M4A container, so as you'd expect with any lossless codec
ffmpeg's output WAV is identical to the one produced by mplayer in my tests.
I presume it's also possible to put another (lossy) codec inside an M4A container.
In that case ffmpeg & mplayer might not produce bit-for-bit identical outputs, although one hopes they would at least sound the same.

I don't think I would have a use for the converter after this one project.
Even if you don't do any more M4A conversions, here's another reason you might like to keep mplayer around:
"mplayer -speed 0.96" will play PAL movies at 24fps

For Windows I presume?

MPlayer ought to do it. A command such as:
C:\>mplayer -ao pcm FILENAME.M4A
should produce a file with default name audiodump.wav

Or FFmpeg. These two sites offer precompiled Windows binaries (ffmpeg.exe)
I don't know its syntax offhand, but "ffmpeg --help" or "ffmpeg -?" ought to get you started.

Both MPlayer & FFmpeg include the same library for decoding, called libavcodec.

I used mplayer to decode Neil S. Bulk's '77 Dolby Stereo capture before Belbucus released his.

< DVD-ROM/Audio/ESB Radio Drama/*.mp3 (ten files, over 239MiB combined)
< DVD-ROM/DVD_Covers/DavdarCovers.zip (I wonder why the demon seed didn't include Jambe's own?)

All files in VIDEO_TS have identical sizes. They might or might not have the same checksums.

Isn't the diff command fun?

There's two variants of the original silent version at archive.org
One is B&W and runs 64 minutes, the other is 93 minutes and tinted.

Saw Donnie Darko last night for the first time.
It's alright, but I probably won't make a point of watching again next October. YMMV

I've never seen Nosferatu, so recently I downloaded it from archive.org and will watch it soon.

I'll probably spin The Lost Boys too.
Recently I saw it on the shelf at Wal-Mart with 2007 copyright date. Based on the features list,
it doesn't appear to be the dual-layer disc from 2004's 2-disc Special Edititon set.
Rather, it looks like a rehash of the single-layer 1998 release.
I suspect the only reason for the 2007 copyright is because the cover art is resized to fit an Amaray case
instead of the old Warner Bros. cardboard snap case.
What were they thinking?

What speed do you burn DVDs at?
Time
For any given media ID, I use the slowest speed which my drive's firmware supports.

With my current batch of YUDEN000/T02 discs, my drive's firmware offers 8x, 6x & 4x. I choose 4x.
With a previous batch of RICOHJPN/R01, the same firmware version offered 4x & 2x. For those discs I chose 2.
The first discs I ever bought were CMC_MAG/R01. Firmware offered 2x & 1x, so I chose 1x.

My (employer's) laptop has a DVD burner, although I don't use it for burning since it doesn't support book-type bitsetting.
Its firmware offers 8x, 6x, 4x & 2.4x for the same YUDEN000/T02 media.

Greetings from Wookie Groomer; Split Screen Project (Released)

I prefer the original versions for two reasons:

1) I enjoy hearing both soundtracks simultaneously
2) I'm still watching a 4:3 display

The new 16:9 versions could have been also "4:3 friendly" if you'd chosen to position the image nearer the center of the frame.

After the new forum software is unveiled I'll change my name to Darth Gift-Horse-Mouth-Looker

Laserschwert, I'll presume you don't have usenet access or haven't seen the covers Wookie Groomer posted.
That's a lo-rez version of his A New Hope cover which shows two screenshots.
According to my own extrapolations, each film frame would be approximately 1200x510.
Obviously GOUT is upscaled, but WG didn't divulge in his .NFO file which method he used to resize.

Since I'm bored, I downloaded the .ZIP from rapidshare again.
Exactly the same files I got back in May.
Loaded the .MP3s into two different apps (Foobar2000 & XMMS) and both showed the timings Mr. Mojo_(risin')_LA_(woman) listed in the original post.

Next I played the files with MPlayer and used a stopwatch to time them.
The first track ran 4:11, the second 3:41, and the third lasted 4:13.
I noticed in MPlayer's output 44.1kHz and 48kHz both among the diagnostic messages,
yet even the ratio 44.1/48 doesn't match the time differences.
I'll agree there's something strange going on. I'll be investigating further after work.
