The 4:3 DVD of The Cure (1995) contains "This film has been modified...." I assumed that meant pan/scan.
Only after I bought the widescreen laserdisc did I realize the DVD is open matte.
Oh well, at least I only paid $3 for the LD.

From its .NFO file, Flunk wasn't a straight transfer. It had "its colors and contrast imporved." [sic]
It's possible those imporvments might need some restoration. Proceed with caution....

I might have guessed the '04 DVDs weren't from a 480-line master, but an HD one.
Are modern downconverting algorithms a lot better than four-year-old ones ?

Not long ago I reposted to a.b.starwars boon23's NTSC conversion of Returning To Jedi.
I was scratching my head trying to figure how it had the same number of frames (encoded, progressive) and same running time Jambe Davdar's original PAL
Now it makes more sense!

If that's true, then why do I see so many mid-range LCD TV's @ 1366x768 on store shelves?

Phew! Took over 12 hours to generate 10% PAR2 files on a network drive volume.
Don't try this at home (unless you've got gigabit ethernet perhaps.)
