The Unofficial Complete REVISITED SAGA Ideas and Random Discussion Thread
Time

I’m almost positive this must have been brought up before, but I figured I’d bring it up to be safe. Was watching ROTJ yesterday and realized it’s the only one with three ellipses at the end of the crawl instead of four. I hope/assume Ady is planning on remedying this for consistency sake?

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **
Time

I kind of realized something about Starkiller base the other day too. I realized that I don’t think I (or many other people) would have disliked the repeated death star thing as much had it not already been rehashed in Jedi. Like if Jedi didn’t have the death star plot and instead focused on like storming the Imperial Capitol or something, then the idea that the first order built their own, bigger, better version of the death star would not have been so annoying. It would have actually been kind of cool. The only reason it was not well recieved (for me at least) was because it was the THIRD time the planet sized superweapon thing had been done in this series. It would have made sense that they spent the last 40 odd years redesigning and perfecting the design into a greater threat.

Would have been even cooler if it DIDN’T get destroyed at the end of the film, so it could be a threat throughout the trilogy.

Hows this… Still needs some work.

Pardon my language but HOLY SHIT!!! I didn’t think this could be done so convincingly. You can sort of tell a little bit as there’s some slight wonkiness on one little part, but if you’re just watching the movie and not looking for it, it’s completely unnoticeable. This is amazing. I wasn’t planning on doing an edit but I know several others are and I’m sure this would be extremely handy for them so PLEASE do the rest.

Is it really about historical novelty?
Time

It is for historic novelty as much as it is about wanting to see the versions we grew up with. As a filmmaker and film history enthusiast, I would hate to watch something like Citizen Kane, only to later find out the film I watched was not the film originally made by Orson Welles, but in fact a re-edited, colorized version. Or if the original version of Blade Runner was no longer available for me to see. I would feel as though I was being cheated out of experiencing the history of cinema. All films, with their flaws, are what impact the society they are released to, and to change those films decades after the fact and wipe the original versions from availability to the public is a great disservice to the generations to come, who want to understand past generation’s values and tastes through the lens of cinema, only to find out they are being shown through rose coloured glasses to try and adhere it to the tastes and values of modern audiences, which wipes away the historic value, and never accurately conforms it to modern audience’s tastes, because it is trying to make it into something it is not.

If the creators or owners of a film wish to change it, I say go right ahead, but nobody, not even the creator has the right to tear that original, historically significant work from the hands of society and try to revise history to better suit their current tastes.

TFA Blu Ray Releases
Time

I was going to get the target version because I thought the design on the cover was better and because of the extra content, but then when I saw it in the store and saw the flimsy trading card quality packaging, I bought the standard version instead. A few extra minutes of bonus material is not worth sacrificing decent quality packaging.

If you had to keep one Special Edition change…?
Time

Jedi rocks.

Just kidding.

Assuming the hypothetical situation means it’s the only version I can ever watch, and if we’re talking about only major noticeable changes, the better forced perspective in the Death Star hallway doesn’t bother me. The original matte painting actually distracts me from the focus of the scene every time I watch it.

And I don’t know why, but the idea of roman numerals not having a zero makes me laugh.

I laugh at any culture which failed to conceive of “0”.

Well it’s not that the Romans didn’t know that 0 was a thing, they just didn’t create a symbol for it because of the philosophical question of “how could nothing be something?”
It seems so obvious to us now, but this was a real debate back then.

Harmy's STAR WARS Respecialized Edition '97 - AVCHD and MKV Released
Time

I would totally support Respecialized versions of TESB and RotJ. Even though I’m most familiar with the original releases, there’s something intriguing about the '97 versions. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them fully. I really hope Harmy decides to do it! However I know a tremendous amount of work is required for these things.

Are there any mistakes/inaccuracies in SW Respecialized or is it pretty much complete?

Well actually I don’t think it would be very hard at all. If I remember correctly Harmy did SW Respecialized in like a day right? The only tough thing was waiting for a good source for 97 Jabba.

However, I think Harmy is focusing on empire 2.5 right now, then he’ll probably move right on to the despecialized 3.0 trilogy. I suspect if respecialized ESB and ROTJ are to be done, it will be I imagine done by someone else, or saved until after 3.0 comes out.

As for mistakes or inaccuracies, the color is definitely off from what was seen in 97, but that’s pretty much it.
