SNOW

If it's like it was last night, a short thumpy kaboom followed by darkness, then I run outside looking for the magnesium fire. They're pretty.

Now, if it were sudden darkness followed by a big bright blur and a long rumbly kaboom, that'd be a good time to duck and cover. Wait, that's for lava. Dammit!

Upstate SC here. We got ice, and of course it makes the trees break and fall on power lines, houses, cars, etc. I heard a big-ass KABOOM!!! signaling the explosive death of a transformer about 3:30 am, and we've been without electricity since. I'm only on here now because I've got power and Internet at work.

Close. A person is also considered a natural-born citizen (and thus eligible for Presidency) if they're born to American citizen parents overseas, or in a U.S. possession with at least one citizen parent. There are some other small provisos, but these rules make sure that, for instance, my wife (born in Berlin when her dad was in the USAF stationed in Germany) and people like her are full citizens at birth.

ROTS: Best actor?

"For Your Consideration" ads are essentially a formality, and an excuse to spend buttloads of money on big, splashy, self-indulgent ads that very few people will ever see. They're also a strategic way of reminding folks reading the trade papers and magazines (BTW, Cinefex is abso-frickin-lutely awesome if you're an FX geek) that awards season is coming up. If enough people who fill out nomination forms put in the name of a less-than-stellar movie or one of its cast or crew, it will wind up getting on the official nominees list. Whether it has a snowball's chance on Mustafar of winning is irrelevant, because the people involved are forever able to say that they were nominated.

Seiji, I love almost every note of the prequel music, but feel it has suffered as a direct result of the way the new movies went through post-production. In the past, Williams was effectively able to write music to match the image because the cut would be almost locked when the scoring sessions came up. Some of the effects might not be polished at that point, but the pace and everything else were pretty much set. Now, Lucas and his crew are able (and liable) to make significant changes in the editing of a scene almost until the day that prints have to be struck. The score still has to be written and recorded a few months before the film's release, and Williams often had a rougher cut to compose to, particularly for the action sequences. The music he wrote is still, IMO, very good and improves with each passing prequel, but with sequences getting re-edited in the late going and music from other scenes (or even other movies) getting dropped in to try and cover the tracks, the prequel scores often don't work as well in the context of the movie as in the OT.

Info Wanted: 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' - has anyone done the uncensored version?
Time
I don't have a timetable for it yet, but it *IS* on the list, and very near the top. I'd hoped to get started with some transfers this week, but the wifey's gone cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs selling old collectibles on eBay. Right now the computer room's full of storage crates sorted into photographed, listed and sold, and cardboard boxes full of cardboard boxes, all of which leaves me no place to safely set up the LD player.

Rest assured, it will get done, and it'll be distributed through whatever means are available. Some other LD transfers I'm planning:

King Kong/Son of Kong -- ADigitalMan and I started conspiring on this before the new DVD was announced, so I'm gonna do it first just out of principle
Looney Tunes -- everything on the Golden Age of Looney Tunes vol. 1 LD that isn't on DVD yet
Citizen Kane -- there's a supplement on the 2nd CAV Criterion set that has interviews and comments with several filmmakers, 4 at a time onscreen with their voices on different audio tracks. Not sure how I'll handle it yet, but it'll be interesting.
The Lion King -- it's subtle, but roughly 20% of the film was re-animated for the IMAX release that the DVD came from.
Knick Knack -- Pixar short from 1989, included on the Toy Story CAV LD. When it was re-released with Finding Nemo, the blonde figurine had undergone a significant breast reduction. Boobs = good.

There are several other titles where I'm gonna sift and compare LD and DVD supplements and transfer things that didn't get ported over.

Will this website die when/if the O-OT is released?

Remember, folks, that this site is moving toward the day when it will have a broader scope than it currently does, becoming a general sci-fi/fantasy community instead of one with a laser-focus on Star Wars. That will help ensure its continued relevance.

My opinions is ROTS will sort of past the test of time because it ties so closely to Episode IV, but the TPM & AOTC will be laughed at 10 years from now. Just my opinion.

With the great improvements that some of the fan edits have made to Eps. 1 & 2, I'm already laughing at 'em.
Ha! Haha! HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
