'Legacy' by X0-1138 - a fake and trolling 'project'

I intend to upscale from the beginning because it will give me a bigger canvas to work from

That doesn't make sense - you can only lose information when you upscale (unless it's a perfect integer scale that preserves every "real" line, and even then it'll be full of "fake" information).

There's also the fact that you'll be wasting bits on the final encode - bits which would be better spent to create a higher-quality SD version, which can then be upscaled on playback.

What are you using to upscale?

The reason for working at 1080p is to ensure I never have to worry about re-transferring the laserdiscs at a later date and having to redo all the work once home media devices are capable of streaming and playing 1080p content with ease.

There is one massive disadvantage of upscaling (one that I'm always going on about, I know). Once it's been upscaled, that's it - you can never go back. What if someone invents a better upscaling method? I truly believe it's far, far better to leave video at its original resolution.

Upscaling in playback devices is already quite advanced, and it'll get better - lock it down now, and no-one can ever take advantage of that in the future.

SD video is going to be supported well into the future, so I don't see your logic about not having to redo the work.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I can honestly say that after reading all of this I am more excited about Star Wars than I have been in a while...

...excited for how I'm going to edit the mother-loving fudge out of these blurays, that is.

I'm still hanging on to a tiny sliver of hope that this is (at least partially) an elaborate hoax, but only because of the mind-numbing crapitude (in reasoning if not in execution) of the (non-)changes.

Quick trivia: Is anyone else noticed that luke's head appears behind R2 D2 when the falcon first get shot and lights are fading off and on? He appears in 3-4 frames and i suggest that he should be removed from that shot.

I know I'm a little late, but... yes, someone else noticed ;)

59. There's a shot of R2 and 3PO in the curved seat on the Falcon. Look closely behind Artoo - for a few frames at the end, a head (probably Luke) appears. I've painted it out.

DE,

Are you saying you wrote a program to record and validate the AC-3 stream, or did you do this using some software?

Yes ;) It was some software, and I did write it. If I've still got it, it won't work for you unless have an identical sound setup, which is unlikely.

Also, how did you remove the padding between frames?

The program just skipped it until it found the next AC3 header (0b 77, if I remember correctly)
