Help Wanted: Request - 1997 NTSC Special Edition Clips
Time
If not, then does anyone know how to convert PAL to NTSC without quality loss?

Strictly speaking you can't, since NTSC has less lines than PAL, but all you need to do is resize the video from 720x576 to 720x480 in whatever editor you use, and change the framerate from 25fps to 23.976fps.

Your best source might be that PAL digital TV grab that someone posted the original Shaw-ghost scene from RoTJ from.

I think lowering that MP3 an octave would be better.

Are you using "octave" literally? That's equivalent to running at half speed, which would make it incomprehensible - even just half an octave would make him sound like the Mysterons. I could get away with a semitone or two, but I don't really see the need - he'll sound different to his appearance in RoTJ.

Anyone got any bright ideas how I could go about removing Palpatine from a frame, so I've got a clean background to work with? At first I thought taking the darkest pixel from every frame might work, but it doesn't. For what I want to do, I need as accurate a background as possible.

p.s. while you're at it can you digitally replace the ferry with Thunderchild and add the whole of Jeff Wayne's soundtrack to the film - just a small request, lol

No, but I've toyed with the idea of MST3King the Timothy Hines version. No, really!

Here's the correct link to the mp3:

(When I say audio I'm mostly referring to "Yes...yes." If Ian can be replaced by Clive there w/out it being too noticeable it would do wonders.)

That might be tricky... but how's this for a very rough test?

http://monkey.dynip.org.uk/yesyes.mp3

The main problem I'm currently forseeing is that Ian never says the word "Luke" - everything else is present (but not necessarily in the right order*)

But before any of that, I'll be re-editing War of the Worlds - only a few things to do (originaltrilogy.com has corrupted me so much that as I watch films at the cinema, I'm making mental notes on what to do when the DVD comes out!)

a) No close-up of that woman being dusted
b) No exposition from the news crew
c) No aliens in the basement
d) The son doesn't survive

^ I'm off to get my eyes tested - I can't see anything wrong (unless there are 4 red arrows on everyone's copy?)

Look closely... the closing iris closes too far on the "red arrow" frame, then opens up again slightly on the next frame.

I was about to make myself a new burn anyway (that's why I was looking at everything) because I've just persauded the boss that I need TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress for work (I do, really) and thought it might make a better MPEG .

I hope you won't be too disappointed that you won't all be getting new copies Although if it ever comes your way, you'll be able to tell because the serial number will be something like DE-ANH200511xxP.

I owe everyone an apology. There is a horribly glaring error on my ANH disc. I really don't know what to say... I'm sure you all spotted it, but you've just been too polite to tell me.

Yes, you know what I'm talking about. Frame 169216. Now, I'm not actually sure if it was like that on the original DVD, or if it was a mistake I made, but I should have fixed it:

I am, of course, hanging my head in shame.

I do plan on trying something with the Emperor. Maybe the Taun-Taun too, although the problem there isn't that it's truly jerky (all frames are animated) but that there's no motion blur so it looks unnatural.

I'm not sure what, if anything, I'll do with the Wampa. It shouldn't be hard to remove it.

I love you

Uhh.. I know.

Whether I get around to doing Empire and Jedi before the sooper-dooper-deluxe-ultimate-box-set comes out waits to be seen.

Grinder, hopefully you're reading this because I've got too many PMs to reply. I don't use Premiere so I can't specifically help you out, but if you've got the HDD space (70Gb or thereabouts) you might want to convert the m2v to an MJPEG AVI using VirtualDub-MPEG2 and your favourite MJPEG codec (you may have one installed from Premiere).

what changes are you doing for return of the jedi?

Off the top of my head:

Hayden Christensen replaced with Sebastian Shaw
Replacement of Han's "I can see a lot better" line
Removal of the Jedi Rocks
Removal of the celebrations on other planets

and no doubt many more once I watched it through.

Please do torrent it - all I ask is that you make a complete image of the disc (including disc art), and include the serial number (DE-ANH20050525P or N), and my email address (dartheditous @ hotmail.co.uk) in any description of the torrent, and maybe a link back to the forums here.

Amen to that!

But I do have to ask... PLEASE DO ESB AND ROTJ!!
Oh, I was wondering, although this is'nt exactly "preserveing" the O-OT....if you could add you'r own voice to the Stormies to make them sound like AOTC and ROTS clones...

It took me long enough to dub a single impersonated "yeah" for Luke! Personally I'd be against such a change anyway, as would the majority of fans, I think.

that must be too much to ask for. lol. Mabe I'll do that my self.
Of cource I'll be useing your DVD.

I take that as a compliment!

I was wondering, why dont you put your name in the credits!?
Mabe as the first name durring the final credits...

I did consider doing that for a little while.

PLEASE DO ESB AND ROTJ!

I will, some day. I made a start on ESB but I haven't yet dug myself into it (after which I won't be able to come out until it's done).

And will you becoming out with a bonus disc of how you edited the single best movie of all time? Complete with how you added the effects?

I doubt it, but if anyone else wants to I'll be glad to help!

1. Lukes lightsaber still looks green/white. Doesn't match other blue sabers especially Anakin's in ROTS which is the same saber.

Basically it was too much effort! The colours are pretty off throughout the DVD anyway, and I did fix the worst example.

2. The green R4 unit, looks weird only because a second before that R2 is all by himself with nothing close to him, then all the sudden there's this mysterious green R4. The only fix I could think would be to digitally cover the R4 with a Jawa or use another shot of R2 standing by himself. But that's just a personal opinion.

Minimal fix, although perhaps I should have used another shot of R2.

3. It looks like right after Greedo bites the dust you see the furry 4 eyed monster in suspenders it looks like there's a purple bar in the middle of the screen. Perhaps that was just me or my tv.

Probably just a bad bit of film, or light bleeding from off the edge of the screen.

Speaking of PMs, I still get the occasional one asking for copies, but I'm not sending any out right now - besides, I like how this whole paying-it-forward thing is working And my PMs are still overflowing, which is why I haven't replied if you PM'd me.

So if you have a copy and would like to pay-it-forward, please post here or PM a requester if you can help them out.

Edited to fix links:

Watch that scene side by side with these clips:
You don't believe in the force, do you...

How am I supposed to fight?

My jaw dropped after seeing this. I once had to 'force' myself to blink during the frame jumps so it wouldn't stand out as much or at all. Now I don't have to. Thanks DE.

Gotta say, the only odd edit is the fade transition that excises the Jabba scene.

Yeah, I admit that's not perfect! But I wanted to keep to the same number of frames as the OT, which meant slowing down the A side and reconstructing a few frames on the B side. The OT transition is fairly wonky musicwise anyway.

although in some shots, it looked like Ben's saber was purplish instead of blue.

If I remember rightly, I only painted in the lightsabre in a handful of frames, so that could just been down to the DVD's reportedly poor colouring.

when Greedo shoots first was there anyway of removing the poorly CGI'ed version of Han Solo, it does stick out like a sore thumb and is so poor its almost laughable????

Do you just mean the general shot of him and Greedo at the table as they fire? I never thought of Han as being CGI in that scene... or did you just mean the unrealistic dodge? Because that's gone from my edit.

I kept the shot in because the scene is much clearer with it included. In the OT, you see Han reach for his gun, then there's more conversation, then Greedo explodes, apparently for no reason.
