Hi Definition adopters food for thought
Time
My thinking has always been "don't worry about it--buy it when you can afford it" .. Breaking the bank for a few extra pixels seems pointless to me.

DVD isn't going to vanish overnight, and Ultra High Definition isn't going to replace Blu-Ray anytime soon. I've never understood this obession with resolution myself. Sure, HD looks better, but no amount of High Definition will turn a crappy movie into a winner. So what if I can see individual hairs on Aragorn's beard? I don't watch Lord of the Rings to count folicles.

I didn't notice, but then again I've only seen Superman II all the way through one time.

I don't guess I've ever really told what I thought of the movie.. Er.. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't as good as it should have been..

What worked:

-The Harry Osborne plot. They resolved it in a way that was respectful to the character and yet not too 'happy' and ending for a guy like that.
-The effects shots, especialy the scene where Sandman first pulls himself together. The music in that scene was brilliant too.
-Emo Peter's riduculously over-the-top antics. Yeah, they were absurd but that's what made them funny.
-Gwen Stacy. She had no valid reason to exist in this movie and yet I enjoyed watching her on screen more than I did Mary Jane.
-Eddie Brock; his character arc was well-handled when it could have easily been a total mess.
-J. Jonah Jameson.
-Venom looked great.

What didn't:

-Mary-Jane came across as jealous and whiny. It was her own dang fault she didn't tell Peter about being fired, not Peter's.

-Venom's voice. Why they didn't get a seperate voice actor to play Venom is beyond me, because as it is Venom souned so stupid.

-STUPID RANDOM CAMEO CHILDREN. I don't want a climactic final battle interrupted to have some moron kids shout "AWESOME! WICKED COOL!"

-The resolution to Sandman's arc. The fact that Peter forgave him for the death of Uncle Ben isn't what bothered me... it's the fact that it acted as though Ben's death was Flint Marko's ONLY crime. Earlier in the film he'd robbed, assualted, and almost killed a couple of police officers and conspired with Venom to kidnap Mary Jane and almost murder Spiderman. And they let him fly off into the sunrise as though 'not meaning to' kill Uncle Ben absolves him of all his other crimes. They should have had Spiderman offer to help his daughter if he turned himself in or something. As it is, it makes Peter look like an idiot.

The Matrix
Time
I enjoyed the first two quite a lot, though the first one is undoubtedly superior in every way.

The third one I have mixed feelings on. While I enjoyed some aspects of it, there wasn't nearly enough of it taking place in the matrix itself and I hated the fact that everyone from the first film but Morpheus is dead. And yet the Superman fight between Neo and Smith almost makes up for its shortcomings in my mind.

I guess 'cheated' is a good word for it. The first film set my expectations very high and the Wachowski's failed to deliver on them completely.

I'll say this much: I was looking very forward to it, and I was immensely disappointed. It's a mishmash of plots shoved together, and I thought it wasn't good at all. Let me count the ways...

-Emo Peter telling Mr. Ditkovich to "FIX THE DAMN DOOR!!!"
.

...What was wrong with that scene? I thought that was one of the best Emo Peter scenes in the movie.

I agree. This show was awesome. It really put last week's show into perspective with Sylar drawing the future vision of Nathan Petrelli as President.

Problem--Linderman had a picture of Nathan as president even before Sylar killed Issac. It might still be Sylar in Linderman's painting, but it wasn't the one Sylar painted.

What is up with the vast majority of GameStop's games having those generic covers instead of the original ones? (Or is that just unique to my area?) Do that many people loose their original boxes

I think it's just that. I've never really had a problem keeping track of cases for games of the sixth and seventh gen consoles, though, so you might be right about people making illiegal copies.

I'm anticipating cleaner textures and a sharper image. Plus, I think it will support the native widescreen mode found in the PS2 version.

My Gamecube has a component out, I just don't have a television that can use that.

Can someone tell me a bit more about Shadow Of The Collosus and God Of War. I've been tempted by SOTC a few times when Ive seen it, and GoW2 has just come out.

Shadow of the Collossus a lot of fun. The animation and art direction are unparalleled, though it does tax the PS2 to its limits. The game has you riding across a really huge landscape (far bigger than anything Zelda's ever done), and reaching sixteen different Collosi, which you have to climb and defeat. It gets a little repetitive towards the end, but some of the Collosi are truly amazing, and I'd love to see a follow up for the next generation.

God of War is a straight up action game. Think Devil May Cry with Greek mythology, and that's essentially what you have. You even collect red orbs to buy stuff and green orbs for health like in DMC. Not as much cheesy dialogue though.

Well, this is where I'll have to agree with you. The media DOES sensationalize things like this in order to create fear. And it does start to erode the infrastructure of our country.

Between the emphasis by the media of cops shooting unarmed blacks in urban neighborhoods for petty crimes, and hateful rap lyrics promoting cop killing...it's tough. It pits the people against the cops and cops against the people. That's never a good thing.

It makes officers more wary and perhaps more suspicious or aggressive toward the general public. After all, most cops are just trying to make it home alive every night. They have a right to be on the offensive, their life depends on it.

But to blindly say that every cop in every city in America is Officer Friendly and never has a corrupt thought, or wouldn't ever think of abusing their power, I think that's an equally unfair representation. If officers have broken the law it should be reported, we shouldn't bury it or withhold that information from the public.

The media's tendency--conservative and liberal alike--to sensationalize everything is one of the biggest problems with our society. Things like Virginia Tech, or political debates, yeah, those need to be reported. But Alec Baldwin yelling at his daughter? Jack Thompson blaming video games for school shootings? Donald Trump's stupid feud with Rosie O. Donnel? Every little possible crime or half-scandal? It makes me want to throw things at the TV.

Trivial things like that are blown so out of proportion that it puts people in a mindset to think the whole world is a rotten, awful place.

Never said it was the rule, Chaltab. Nor did I say ALL cops do things like this.

What I was illustrating by posting a link to that article is simply this: For Ferris to say that the plot of Crash is not credible because nothing that like that EVER happens or has ever happened (especially in L.A.), and that an officer would "never even THINK of doing something like that" is obviously, according to this report, not only untrue but a naively flawed way of thinking.

I'd like you to explain how that's "twisted logic", Chaltab. I really would. I'd also like you to explain to me how that "twisted logic" contributes to the racism Black people face.

Yeah...your post makes absolutely no sense.

I've not seen the movie, so I don't know how realistic it is, and the guy in your news article is a jerk who should be put in prison.. But MY issue is that the constant portrayal of cops as generally horrible people by the media and Hollywood makes people in the real world distrustful of ALL real world cops, similarly to how constant portrayals of black men as rapists could be used to justify racism. From what I've heard, such things were common in the early and mid-twentieth centuries.

I don't want to see the same thing happen to our cops.

Corrupt cops should be dealt with using extreme prejudice, but the media should use a strong level of discression when reporting such cases, and I'm not seeing that. They report the proportionately rare instances of stuff like cops forcing a couple to have sex, put it on the internet for everyone to see, and generally make cops look bad.

This was just reported yesterday....

Officer Forces Couples To Have Sex

Exception, not the rule.

You do realize this is the same twisted logic that lead to racists saying all black men are rapists just because some black men sometimes rape. That's detestable and ignorant.
