"The People Vs. George Lucas" documentary...
Time

I just watched it finally.

I think the one major point that the documentary fails on is that it seems to really lack clarification of the "Bonus Disk" issue.  No real time is spent clarifying to the average person why the 2006 DVD is an insufficient release.  So the ill-informed who watch the documentary will still look at it and say "why are they still complaining, they have the original versions to watch if they want."  They do touch upon the issue, but not nearly enough considering how critical the issue is to the whole argument.

Other than that one critical error, it was very refreshing to see all our frustrations presented in this way.  It was very zen like.  Fingers crossed that it might actually make an impact.

BTW, the gushers seem to be popping up on the iTunes review page.

What was the "fatal flaw" of the Prequels if you think they sucked? (aka. Let's take a break from hating on the blu-rays)

While I don't think it's fair to compare Empire to the prequels, as far as I'm concerned, it was the same line of thought that produced both.

Flawed thinking, imo.

There would've been nothing wrong with the prequels, had they been as good as ESB.
Blaming ESB for the whackjob they did with the prequels, is almost bordering on insane troll logic.

Aside from that, you said it yourself - it was conceived as (and modeled after) serials and comics, and Flash Gordon had on-going storylines throughout its "episodes" as well.
So what would've stopped them from going back and filming the story arc that was ALREADY MENTIONED IN THE FIRST FILM? ANH already introduced the backstory element, Empire only added the "father" part to it.

We can all wonder what would happen if they made the sequels in the same tone with stand-alone plots, and compare it to other film series such as Rush Hour or Fantomas (just to name a few), and if maybe it could've been better, but naming the prequels that followed 20 years after as an argument... is simply ludicrous.

I will not be replying to any more of your posts.  Good day sir.

News Story: Viral video explains how to talk to your kids about 'Star Wars'
Time

I shut it off about a half way though as soon as they started into the whole no special editions and no prequels as long as you live under my roof garbage.  For God's sakes, why intentionally turn them into angry Star Wars fans from the moment they pop in the first film.

And do not show your kids Star Wars as early as possible because if I had a choice in the matter, I would have seen to it that I didn't see any of the movies until I was old enough to remember it.  I can't remember the first time I saw the movies because it was further back than I can remember and I hate that.

I also think it's funny that the book that guys little kid is looking through is the complete visual dictionary that contains info on all the prequels.

Is this the EU thread where the Death Star III finally blows up, and then it is THE END?

Wasnt that the original Star Tours?

I always like to think that it was actually a New Republic battle simulation. Which would explain why the pilots are more annoyed than worried that a civilian craft has suddenly entered a war zone.

I wanna try the new Star Tours they've added on. It looks fun. I went on Star Tours a couple yers ago and it was really outdated, and dusty and the whole place needed a revamp.

It's pretty fun! Some of it is kind of outlandish but if you just throw your cares away it's a good time. All of the exterior stuff and back story during the line establish that it takes place between ROTS and ANH but that's pretty much quickly thrown out the window if you happen to end up going to Hoth during the ride. Hoth was actually one of George's ideas and when the imagineers asked him how there could be a walker battle happening on Hoth if this is set long before then he replied just because you saw one during ESB doesn't mean there's never been one there before. =P Pretty silly explanation but worth it when you're actually dodging Walker fire in 3D.

Does that mean Star Tours is T level canon.

My Top 10 Reasons ROTJ sucks

Was Luke tempted to drop by Tosche Station and rub Fixer and Camie's noses in it?

The latest Star Wars insider (issue 128) has a pretty interesting article about the creation of the Empire Strikes Back, and to a larger degree, Return of the Jedi radio dramas.

Apparently, they origianly had a scene in Jedi where Luke went back to Anchorhead and ran into Fixer and Camie, but Lucasfilm asked them to scrap it and it was replaced with the scene at Ben's house.

If you'd like to just glance through it at your nearest newsstand instead of actually buying it, the article if on page 32.  The actual passage reads:

"Daley opened the first episode with a scene that brought Return of the Jedi full circle with the first episode of Star Wars.  On a bridge before Jabba's palace, a cowled and unrecognizable Luke blocks his old Anchorhead buddy , Fixer, and girlfriend, Camie, from crossing.  Fixer, cranky as ever, orders his homemade battle droid 'Gunmetal' to blast the mysterious man out of the way.  But a warbot built out of spare parts is no match for a Jedi Knight.  Luke easily dissembles the hunk to junk and stops his two friends from joining the vile gangster's staff.  While the scene may have lacked the punch and breadth of the rest of Daley's script, if it had been allotted more than six episodes, a full homecoming to Anchorhead could have served as a fitting coda to Luke's childhood and transformation from 'Wormie' to 'Jedi.'"

I liked the Jedi Rocks scene
wut

 did i studder?

I enjoyed the three backup singers.

The song itself is meh, but then again, so was Lapti Nek.

But the in your face CG characters need to go.  And the fact that they sing right into the camera also brakes the entire editing and visual style of the entire series, including the prequels.

Someone needs to do a fan edit where instead of either song, they just cut to this:

Oh boy, as soon as he said worst of the six I just knew the flames were gonna start.

Return of the Jedi is actually my second least favorite, but it does have some great moments that keep it from completely sucking.

My order:

1.  A New Hope

2.  Empire Strikes Back

3.  Revenge of the Sith

4.  Attack of the Clones

5.  Return of the Jedi

6.  The Phantom Menace

Wrong movie! ;-)  My brain is fried at the moment so I can't come up with a fitting quote from Episode V.

Great news!  Thanks for the update.

Edit:  This is a bit of a stretch but "The third reel... is away.  Yeahhhhh!"

Isn't that also the wrong movie?

EDIT: nvm, I was thinking of "It's away!" from the trench run in Star Wars.

"One more pass."

Help: looking for... a true Classic Star Wars Trilogy Restoration?
Time

I have some Myspleen invites if you need one.  Just PM me.

Harmy's Empire despecialized is basically an upgraded version of Adywan's Empire reconstructed.  Harmy's are basically the only ones to get if you want higher quality.

Restorations are usually taken from the 2006 GOUT (George's Original Unaltered Trilogy) Bonus disks or from various laserdisc editions that have certain advantages over the GOUT disks.  There are some other sources that are occationally used as well such as Puggo's versions taken from old 16mm prints.

Just remember that none of these are flawless so it will be up to you to determine which imperfections you are more willing to look past.

You might also want to check out Adywan's Star Wars Revisited.  It's technically a fan edit, not a restoration or reconstruction but it's a must see regardless.

Screen shots don't do this restoration justice.  Watching this side by side with a GOUT transfer, this is way more watchable.

Of course, I've not been able to find a JSC transfer to compare it to :(

UPDATE:  Burned and tested on my HDTV.  This is now officially my go-to theatrical Star Wars.

I wouldn't call it a restoration but that's not a bad bit of praise you gave it. Is it really watchable on a HDTV? I cannot fully enjoy this one myself due to some wonky colors and contrast issues that bothers me but the positive feedback makes me even more willing to do an improved one later. :)

I definitely recommend you to check out arnie.d's "V8", it's still up on the newsgroup, I think there's also a single layer of it on demonoid but I do recommend the original authored one.

Sorry, I ment preservation.

It is far from perfect I know, but the lack of smearing really stands out and I like that it reminds me of watching my VHS without looking like total crap.  And the specs of dirt and scratches really make it look like film to me even if its an older transfer as oposed to the over processed mess on the GOUT.

I'm pulling the demonoid version now.  If it looks like something I would watch regularly then I'll look into the newsgroup version.  Thanks.
