Info: OT Bootleg DVDs
Time
Yeah, it's good stuff. You can also download them http://www.qtm.com.ar/torrents/104.htm. Not that I know what version is there; but hey it lifts the bandwidth from Rik And come on Rik I thought we were all doing AirMail, not Shipping... and what do you mean "5 disc" are you counting your CD as well in that count? (When's Soulflare gunna give us the ESB cover so I chuck it on the my covers cd)

It's too bad I don't have a good printer. You may as well just get it done commercially though, self-printing is pretty expensive. At least you can have 4 separate covers (and if posting that suddenly the postal charge jumps from envelope to parcel). Though that's a good offer Rik, especially if people are going to go through several bootlegs - they just need one cover for each!

I just wanted to find out, the best versions of the LD to DVDs of the OT Star Wars are the TR47 and the Anamorphic Versions am i correct or are there more? Also whats the best versions of the LD to DVDs of the 1997 SE Star Wars.(i would like a copy of them just incase my vhs stuff up).

Btw i can get DL discs for AU$4.50 each and if you set the book type to dvd-rom(can only do this on liteons sonys and the new nec DL) you will pretty much eliminate compatibility problems on some dvds players
Damn man, $4.50 each? I pay about $1.20/DVD-R (Ridata, yes I'm moving up in the world, before it was Ritek, now I've decided to try Ridata - yes it's the same thing: here) including paper sleeves and postage, they really have the bring the prices on DL media down. And how long does it take to burn those things? I can hook you up with the TR47 and/or Anamorphic discs + covers CD just send me a PM (you have to enable them first). We're not allowed to discuss 1997 SE bootlegging here, and I don't have any SE bootlegs anyway. And who manufactures the "Sony" drives you speak of? Are they just rebadged lite-on's? I'm pretty sure Sony don't just sell drives just from one manufacturer.

Not that I'd pay money for a Sony drive when I can have liteons. Hey Rik, what media do you use?

Lucas: Madman or Genius?
Time
See, there are a lot of people that want to see the O-OT released for different reasons, and some are not as good as others - but so long as they want it released I'll support them. For me it's about the film's integrity. You can make a director's cut. Apocalypse Now, The Exorcist, Alien, Blade Runner, Robocop, Scream, .. I don't even know why I talk about director's cuts since Lucas isn't the director for Empire and Jedi just going to show how mad he's really become. Original material is fine; but when you insert new footage or effects that is not fine. That is for all intents and purposes shooting a new movie.

Lucas: Madman or Genius?

I'll tell you what I think, but you won't like the answer. I quite enjoy the prequels, they're on a completely different level but they're enjoyable films. Lucas is an idiot, he always has been and he always will be. It's all one big joke for him. He's retained rights to "his own films" a feat most writer/director's never achieve. He whines about "only having US$20,000,000" for Star Wars. He thinks he's fixing the films, making them right - he thinks it what he always wanted - but then how much do we change over the years? He may as well be Andy Kaufman. He's lost his touch with reality. No matter how seriously we take his movies - he takes them just as seriously. The sad difference is his obsessiveness and blatant idiocy. He really has no idea how stupid his obsessions are. He lies to us to try and maintain a steady image. He sells us shit. He has no idea what he's doing, he never has.

I watched Attack of the Clones a few days ago, though I enjoyed it I must say I actually PREFER the old sabre effects. They're imperfect, more true-to-life. They have a certain charm to them that is absent in the more perfectly uniform ones.

2004 OT DVD release continuity error?!

And if you want to go for the fairy-tale ending, have Padme appear at young Anakin's side. I mean really, how happy an ending is it when the love of the main character's life, not to mention the mother of the OT's greatest heroes, is nowhere to be found at the big ending celebration, apparently lost forever to the afterlife. Kind of takes the cheer out of things, huh?
What kind of sick man wants to have a 24-year-old-wife when he died in his 40's? Get over that idea, it isn't realistic. Have you seen The Butterfly Effect? I (thank goodness) saw the Director's Cut first. But the Theatrical - there's an entire movie ruined in just the last 2 minutes. Same could be said for Blade Runner, but with the Butterfly Effect it's even more significant - it changes the entire movie! How the directors could be happy with that ending is far far beyond me, they should have fought 'till they were pale in the face for the right ending!!

His voice isn't bad but it lacks the coolness and the lower more sinister voice as before. Tem Morson really seems like he is just rushing through the lines. He sounded better in Attack of the Clones. They could at least get him to try to sound as angry and sinister as the original Boba (Does anyone know his name). I am totally against Lucas on this change.
You're on to something here Jimbo.

I disagree. We know without a shadow of a doubt Boba Fett is Jango Fett's unaltered clone. Now judging from the fact he emulates and honors his father, by wearing similar armor, flying his ship, etc.... it seems likely with a loner like Boba that the only stuff he would listen to and such would be teachings of his father. Plus the Kaminoans seemed to have made all clone voices identical at adulthood, probably to distinguish them as clones. All they did with Boba was no messing with his genetic structure and no growth acceleration. Hence the voice is the same. I also think Morrison does a fine job with the lines, as did the original voice actor. I think overall, as with the Emperor, the performance was equal and the continuity among the films is better established.
Wrong. Accents are not genetically inherited. I found out not so long ago that Western Australians have a different accent to the rest of Australia. Just a couple of months ago I was talking to a girl "you're american" I said. "No, I'm Australian!" "You're a yank, you have a thick obvious accent". Turns out she just lived in America for a few months (as in less than a year).

I myself do not have an accent at all. In my previous job one of the Indians asked me "are you Australian" "yes" "you don't have an accent". You're also forgetting a whole array of things that can happen over time to effect a person's voice. Drinking, Drugs, Tobacco, Accidents/Assault/Fights all of which I'm sure bounty hunters would be all too familiar with.

I wish I had it at higher resolution, it's only 576 x 694 - 135kb, but I it still fits the criterion look since criteron sometimes has the cover at much lower resolution then anything else. I'm going to try and go with the look for all the movies, find drawn-art of a defining moment in the movie. I with the film roll I don't have to worry about the screenshots since they're so small.

The SE is not the DVD.

In ANH, the Greedo scene has been tightened. From leaked footage, Greedo now shoots exactly 2 FRAMES before Han does. That's less than 1/10th of a second at 24 frames per second. Also, in both the SE and the DVD Han shoots Greedo TWICE. Also, the DVD restores Han's, "Yes, I bet you have," as it sounded pre-SE.

Jabba's appearance in ANH has been redone from scratch and screenshots from the SE are no more representative of the DVD than pictures of the Irish actor who was on the set. Jabba looks a LOT better on the DVD, better than his appearance in Episode I.

Also, the DVD of ESB removes the scream added when Luke jumps after the duel, and actually FIXES flaws in the original like in the shot on the Executor bridge that is obviously flipped backwards, the officers uniforms have been digitally corrected so they appear to be turned around correctly. That is an indisputable improvement.

Finally, the incredible work done restoring the sharpness and detail of the film and recompositing original effects will make the blending of digital effects into the movie appear far more seamless. When you actually watch the films you will feel the story being told more intensely than before simply because you can see so much more detail and it seems so much more real.

Experience the films as they are now. Hear the story in your mind based on what you see and hear, not on what you remember. Feel, don't think.
No, it isn't okay. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Use original material only. Digital scratch removal, yes, adding digital effects? No. I would have let them flip the entire scene for the uniforms, but to "digitally fix it"? No. That's not original material.

See that's the problem, you're not meant to be seeing brand new movies. You're meant to be seeing classic movies.

Do you mean you don't want 'em added to my cover's CD that I give people? The link is timing out for me too, why not upload them individually to one of the sites I posted? That also allows people who don't like the first cover they find to stop downloading the rest.

I'll be reviewing the TR-47 and Anamorphic sets properly soon. I'll do it with a friend, or if possibly a small group; so that it's not just one person's opinion but the group's opinion with individual opinions too. I'm going to try and get some inferior sets as well so I can see how much the quality has improved since they came out. Now depending on where we do it, will depend on the exact equipment used, as we'd want to use the best equipment that's at our disposal. Hey a friend of mine's come home from Greece today... woot woot! I'll have to press him for stories later...
