Wanted: I'm looking for a PAL VCR...
Time
Your USD has no real power. Try this:

Australian VCRs?
Brittish VCRs

Maybe an online retailer can help you. If not I'll keep an eye open for a 2nd hand VCR, or quote you a price for a new one (new ones are probably about $150 for a decent unit, at a guess). You do realize that our power plugs are physically different shape than yours and you need to use a converter, right?

Originals already on DVD

I do, Rik does, TR-47 does. Probably more people too. There are more upcoming sets you can see developing here:

http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/categories.cfm?catid=9

But it isn't clear if any of them will be that much better than TR-47's set. Which set do you have? TR-47's set doesn't have menus. Gonzo's set is anamorphic and has menus, but only DD 2.0 sound + the commentary (TR-47's has a PCM of the prologic track). Welcome, and enjoy your stay. And don't pay ebay prices.

PAL + NTSC size query

there is no reason on earth whatsoever for James Cameron to shoot a film @25fps when all FX houses and film equipment at the professional film industry level is designed and set up for 24fps. plus cinemas don't show stuff at 25fps. besides, he hasn't shot any other films at 25fps.
Well according to his commentary, he did shoot Aliens at 25fps to make better PAL transfers, which he (or maybe it was the technical guy on the commentary) describes as being "a better system than NTSC". And there's no reason a cinema can't show 25fps movies.

"Progressive" flag in the MPEG stream is set; Bitrate Viewer will tell you.
Yes, but that doesn't mean it's "film" (24 fps). A good example of this is the movie Aliens. Because it was shot in 25fps and not 24fps the PAL DVD is not sped up, therefore while it is a progressive DVD it should be played at 25fps not 24fps.

Do you believe in ghosts?

Okay, I'd tell you a real story that happened to a friend of mine. But then it would be posted all over the internet in one form or another. So all I can tell you is there is no logical explination for what happened it could not possibly have been a prank, (because no one could have known my friend - or anyone else would be there, and the large ammount of time taken to execute the "prank"). Basically there is no explination for it at all.

Let me say that again: DO NOT POST BOOTLEGS FOR SALE HERE

The official rules as of 9-30-2004:

Preservation Forum Rules

  1. Do not offer bootlegs for sale.
  2. Do not advertise sites that offer bootlegs for sale. Do not link to such sites or direct users to them.
  3. Do not post direct links to downloads.
Probably because Jay knows censorship is bad, and wants to give spidy a chance. He is, after all, a great admin.

My 2 cents releasing the OT on DVD
Time
Brandonrf1, I'm glad you shared your opinion. Because believe it or not most of these SW fans here that want to see the O-OT released officially on DVD share your view to a lesser extent. They hate the changes lucas has made, but in their hands they would still make changes to certain effects. Awful isn't it? See, you are saying "this is my apple, I expect it to taste like an apple. Don't bring me an orange because it won't taste like an apple". So is anyone else who would make the least of changes. Because you're tampering with the material.

I certainly wasn't attacking you, Zion. I don't really think it's anyone's fault, but still negative energy was clearly oozing through this thread; hostility rather than hospitality shown to a new forum member.

Zion you'd be able to understand from Spidy's side better than me or most members here.

I am looking forward to your samples, MeBe.
Yes, but there's less picture information to compress when it's 4x3. MeBeJedi is bowing to the demands of both groups of people, so even though I think the 16:9 is silly I say "great work". I'd say the same to Lucas if he released the originals and SE's, even though I despise the SE's.
