How engrish of you... 'Backstroke of the West' dub
Time

I’m not sure where to ask this, or who to ask, or if i’m even allowed to ask (publically). I have the Backstroke of the West dub and the 1997se ROTJ “Admiral Edbaby’s last stand” subs. Can anybody tell me where I can find these (http://www.opticalsin.com/sw_engrish/index_anh.html) so that I use them with Harmy’s Respecialized? In addition, are there any known engrish subs for TPM (theatrical cut or otherwise), AOTC, and/or ESB (1997 special editon or otherwise)?

The quality of the CGI
Time

I don't hate the special editions completely. While there are some changes that bug me (Jedi Rocks, Christensens's ghost, jabba in ahn, greedo shooting first etc), I like many of the smaller changes though, and the improved Death Star battle was pretty awesome.

Maybe it's just me, but the CGI didn't look as good as it once did. Sometimes in ANH, shots which looked good several years ago now seem to be distracting and don't blend in as well. For example, the dewbacks in ANH kinds of still look good today, but whenever you see a stormtrooper riding one, its as if the stormtrooper was low poly. Similarly, I liked the scope of the new tattoine, and it fits with with how it's portrayed in TPM, but for some reason it's hard to watch those shots now, as the cgi backgrounds seem low poly.

My question is, does the cgi in the special editions seem dated to you?

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Let me get this straight. You (Ebaillargeon82) took the despecialized version, compressed it to a 1.2 GB avi, removed all audio tracks except the 70mm mix, despite your preference for the 35mm stereo mix, watermarked it, and uploaded it to archive.org and YouTube.

What the blank made you think you would get away with this? Are you trying to get Harmy in trouble? Also, I'm sure the official 97se VCDs look better than this crap, and they weren't that much bigger in size. Can anyone confirm this theory?

Harmys despecialized is a masterpiece for what it attempts to do. What you did could possibly bring it to the ground. I hope you're happy, because I'm not.

I came up with something like that while working on a translation, and needing to distract myself with anything but the job at hand:

Tomorrow, I want you to take that trilogy to Harmy and have its alterations erased. That'll be the end of it. It belongs to us now.

But what if some fan comes look for them?

@_,,,^..^,,,_ : I've had a look at all three versions of Star Wars and yes I was right, the retro release is the one that looks most similar to your screencaps.

@Octorox: There is a blanket green tint over ROTS, its pretty subtle though so i'm not surprised that most don't notice it. Annoyingly it seems that imageshack has deleted all my comparison shots, i'll see whether I have the ROTS ones still lying around on my harddisk still.

Do you know if that green tint was there in the theatrical version? If it's slight, that may be a hard thing to figure out. Wonder if there were DVD screening copies floating around back then.

There is a 35mm print of ROTS up for sale at the moment if you want to know for sure :)

 O.O

It would be amazing if you or Team Negative One could get that print.

Then again, considering how ROTS was filmed, anything about 1080p would be an upconversion/upscale. Plus, since the community has the DTS for ROTS, and the Blu-Ray is 1080p already, such an endeavor would likely be pointless. However, if 35mm prints of the 97se or TPM could be found...

Wasn't the original Backstroke of the West bootleg taken directly from the film reels? The answer might be in that release.

How do you download fan edits and fan preservations? (and for the record, is it possible to add a poll to a thread in originaltrilogy.com?)
Time

I am curious as to how you retrieve fan edits and fan preservations. Which of these do you use?

  • Public Torrent
  • Private Torrent (MySpleen)
  • Tehparadox
  • Newsgroups

Public Torrent

Pros: When enough people seed, this is the most hassle-free method
Cons: When nobody seeds, these are useless.

Private Torrent

Pros: Same as Public Torrent, but people are more likely to seed.
Cons: Same as Public Torrent; you need an invite to access, which isn't easy to acquire.

Tehparadox

Pros: More reliable than torrents
Cons: Registration required, but anyone can sign up. Without premium membership on whatever website the content is hosted on, downloading is slow.

Newsgroups

Pros: *as far as I know*, files uploaded to newsgroups don't go away.
Cons: If you don't want to spend any money, you're out of luck. Even if you try a free trial for a newsgroups provider, they WILL want your credit card info.

So...what's your poison?

4K restoration on Star Wars

Please don't give Disney any ideas about "fixing" or "preserving changes". They "reversioned" Power Rangers and it was awful. Saban saved Power Rangers from being stuck like that, Lucas is not going to save Star Wars from any Disney reversioning.

Original versions first and foremost, preserved and properly restored. NO ALTERATION IDEAS ACCEPTABLE UNTIL THEN!!!!!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Ahem, before 2010, and before 1993-1994, WITCH BANDORA SHOT FIRST. Someone make a pic of that...

Seriously though, Disney hasn't released its own films in their original format, so what makes you guys think Disney will release an hd OUT?

edit: typing on Wii is hard

edit 2: fixed formatting

Info Wanted: International 1997 SE audio questions
Time

I am curious with what is available in terms of foreign language dubs (and subs) for the 1997 special editions. For what languages are such things available? I have heard that the 2004/2011 audio mixes could be synced to the 1997 Episode 4 almost perfectly (the most noticeable difference would be the infamous Han shot first scene, but since his “Yeah” is cut off it would go back in sync shortly after), but Episode 6 and especially Episode 5 are kind of out of luck with syncing…unless somebody wants to do more than edit the beginning of the audio files…

Thanks to the GOUT, various foreign language audio recordings of the original trilogy are readily available, and even where it is lacking Harmy’s despecialized EP4 has several different languages, and the other original trilogy episodes will have more coming on the way as ESB and ROTJ eventually get their 2.0’s…

That leaves the 1997 at the short end of the stick.

So i guess my question is this:

What foreign language dubs are available for the 1997se? (You can count the 2004/2011 audio for ANH, but it must be labeled as such. 2004/2011 ESB and 2004/2011 ROTJ don’t count.)
