Laserdisc audio as payment (yes, you heard that right)
Time

I decided to move this conversation so that the respecialized thread doesn't get locked due to offtopic-ness, not to mention potential confusing of a newbie.

How do i get Adywans theatrical cut of Episode 1?

It's available on Usenet. (only on Usenet, I think)

What the hell thread am I reading?

The question is, wouldn't you rather get it for free from "that paradoxal place" then spend $20 dollars for a monthly subscription of usenet?

Why isn't there any one time payment unlimited usenet access? Is that too much to ask?

timdiggerm said:

Given that costs cover server maintenance, yes.

Nope! usenetserver.com has $5 unlimited 3-day subscriptions with 20 simultaneous connections and SSL. Enjoy.

by unlimited I didn't neccesarily mean data. I meant pay once, never again. As in *not* a subscription model. As in permanent access.

Oh, I see.

Couldnt it be done with the 97 laserdisc sound mix?

No, a usenet company would never accept that as payment.

Frink, honestly, if you don't know what you're talking about then shut the fuck up! More and more places online are accepting laserdisc soundmixes as a form of payment.

 pets.com doesn't count.

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

So you are saying that all SE versions, even the 97se, have DVNR in them?

This reminded me, I wanted to show you guys this:

I know it's already been said, but, Wow! You can't even see Han Solos mouth in the first picture. So mouthless Solo is in your despecialized?

Someone should try to contact James Earl Jones.  How righteous would that be?

I wonder if David Prowse is sufficiently disgusted that he might want to do it?

 I have a better idea.

I would love to see that. It's also more likely than with David Prowse or James Earl Jones.

Guys, this isn't Star Trek Despecialized. What does George Takei have to do with Star Wars?

There are just certain parts of the SE which I..liked...more......

I reckon you're in the wrong thread, pardner.

IMO for the ESB, the 1997se is the best *official* version. Original Emperor *dialogue*, original Fett voice, along with the improved music cues the SEs (if ESB was a video game, the star destroyer music cues would be in beta in their original form) provide. My main complaints of the 97se are relatively minor, including luke's scream and the added scenes of vader entering and exiting his shuttle. As for ANH and ROTJ, I would like to make a personal quasi-specialized edit of the former. As for the latter, the only changes I liked are the recomposited shots. Jedi Rocks and the new celebration scene (to speak nothing of the 2004 and 2011 changes) both stink. Thus, for ROTJ i am impatiently waiting for the despecialized 2.0 :P

I'm thinking of making my own personal fan edit of ESB once Adywans ESB revisited comes out (only for the revised emperor scene). For the most part, it would be framed like ADigitalMan's esb edit.

But enough about my opinions, we should get back on topic. I still don't know what 2004 LD's are.

**RUMOR** Original theatrical cut of the OT to be released on blu ray!!
Time

Well, I might as well state what my dream blu ray/4k set would be (note, for the most part, I don't know what the special features would be)

Disc 1: ANH OUT

  • 1977/1981 scrolls via seamless branching
  • 1977 70mm surround, 1977 35mm stereo, 1977 35mm mono, 1985 laserdisc stereo, 1993 laserdisc stereo sound mixes, and a new mix designed to resemble the SE as close as possible (the mixture of stereo and mono dialogue sources comes to mind)
  • Special Features: Deleted scenes (all of the original deleted scenes, including human jabba)

Disc 2: ANH Final Cut

  • New lossless sound mix based off 1997 elements (for the most part)
  • redone CGI to look less dated and fit better with source material
  • Ability to choose between OUT-esque, faithful extended and directors cut extended versions of scenes via seamless branching (OUT-esque removes Jabba scene ,extended stormtrooper search, droids hitting each other, cgi dinosaurs, cgi jawa antics, and the biggs scene; faithful extended keeps the extended stormtrooper search and the biggs scene, but removes the more annoying cgi scenes. directors cut extended is basically the special edition scenes in their proper order)
  • Han shoots first, while greedo doesn't shoot at all (of course :P)

Disc 3: ESB OUT

  • 1980 70mm surround, 1980 35mm stereo, Harmy's despecialized 35mm surround mix, Puggo Strikes Back 16mm mono sound mixes, as well as a new mix that takes the best elements of the 70mm, 35mm, 16mm, and SE mixes (added sounds of 16mm and international, as well as the new star destroyer music cues of the SE. "Bring my shuttle" with it's audio cue will remain though)
  • Special Features: Deleted scenes (all of the original deleted scenes, straight from the original source, with no mixing of deleted footage and 2011 footage as seen in the 2011 blu ray special features -.-)

Disc 4: ESB Final Cut

  • New lossless sound mix based off 2011 and 1997 elements (for the most part)
  • redone CGI to look less dated and fit better with source material
  • Ability to choose between OUT-esque, faithful extended and directors cut extended versions of scenes via seamless branching (OUT-esque has the original emperor and boba fett. "Bring my shuttle" and its audio cue are removed, as well as all new shots of vader entering, flying in, and leaving his shuttle. Cloud City flyover transition is recut to resemble the OUT, but retains its SE effects. faithful extended has an Adywan Revisited style emperor (with the video reshot or redone in cgi if neccesary). It uses the old boba fett voice. "Bring my shuttle" and its audio cue are removed, as well as the new shots of vader entering and leaving his shuttle, but the shot of the shuttle flying to the Executor is kept, ala the adigitalman edit. Cloud City flyover transition is recut to resemble the OUT, but retains its SE effects. directors cut extended is basically the 2004/2011 special edition scenes in their proper order. This means 2004/2011 style emperor (with the video reshot or redone in cgi if neccesary), new boba fett voice, and all SE shots are kept in the same order and length as the 2004/2011 SE.

Disc 5: ROTJ OUT

  • 1983 70mm surround and 35mm stereo mixes. I don't think the SE's added any new sounds worth noting so a new mix won't be made.
  • Special Features: Deleted scenes (all of the original deleted scenes)

Disc 6: ROTJ Final Cut

  • New lossless sound mix based off 2011 elements (for the most part) (Before you ask, this does not include Vader's NOOOoooo!)
  • redone CGI to look less dated and fit better with source material
  • Ability to choose between OUT-esque, faithful extended and directors cut extended versions of scenes via seamless branching (OUT-esque has Napti Nek, Yub Nub, original Anakin ghost, no blinking ewoks, and um... pretty much only the SE fixes would be included here (and maybe the beak of the sarlacc). Faithful extended would keep all of the changes of OUT-esque verson except for showing the slave dancer land in the sarlacc pit and the 97se celebration scene (which may or may not include the jedi temple). Directors cut extended would pretty much be like the 2004 SE's, though having Hayden Christensen as ghost may or may not be doable (wasn't it recorded in 1080p like ep2 and ep3?)

I may have forgotten a few things, but this seems about right.

So basically it would be the OUT and three variations of the special editions, designed to please as many people as possible.

kk650's Star Wars Saga: Regraded and Semi-Specialized (Released)
Time

Wait a minute. Aside from changes like new new emperor and boba fett in ESB and the naboo scene in ROTJ, weren't the sound mixes for those films almost identical to their 97se counterparts? I know that ANH had a very different (and inferior) sound mix in the 2004 dvd, but do the ESB and ROTJ sound mixes have the same issues?

If not, can't you take the good parts of the 2011 mixes and the 97 dts mixes and...mix them together (pun unavoidable but unintentional)

How did you first see the Star Wars films?
Time

unny story. My first exposure to the original star wars trilogy was the faces vhs tapes in a Movie Gallery (similar to blockbuster video) near my house. For some reason said Movie Gallery only had the faces tapes and episode 2. No episode 1 (ironically, I think episode 1 is the best of the Prequels) and no 1997 Special Editions.

My first exposure to the Special Editions was the fullscreen 2004 dvd set (I knew there were differences [between the 1995 tapes and the 2004 dvd, wasn’t aware of the 1997SE at the time], but they didn’t matter to me as much as they did now.)

I think it would be interesting to see how each of you first saw the star wars films, in the order you first saw them, and the specific version you saw.

For me it goes like this:

Attack Of The Clones - vhs (movie gallery)

Fullscreen Faces - Star Wars - vhs (movie gallery)

Fullscreen Faces - Empire Strikes Back - vhs (movie gallery)

Fullscreen Faces - Return Of The Jedi - vhs (movie gallery)

Fullscreen - The Phantom Menace - vhs (borrowed from my cousins)

Revenge Of The Sith - in movie theater.
