If the new movies don’t do anything original, it’s honestly just difficult for me to feel any interest in them. The ST movies are fairly competent so far, but to me they’re merely “okay.” If they put out episode 10 and it’s new rebels vs new empire, and they have to blow up an even bigger Death Star, I really don’t know how to get excited about that.

Trailer looks decent. Kinda disappointed it appears they’re going back to Endor.

Probably it was Irvin Kershner on ESB who decided to let the Imperials use their natural British accents, for the American Revolution symbolism. Lucas, by contrast, thought of the Empire as more like modern-day America, so most likely he wasn’t the one who came up with that.

I went to a Transformers convention earlier this year and met Michael Bell (I also almost adopted a cat he was trying to get rid of, but that’s another story), which is where I learned that he was the voice of the rebel that greets Leia when she arrives at the Yavin base. So that’s how I discovered about that small detail.

That sounds like a pretty good approximation of the experience of watching the holiday special.

Well, the actual movie shown was a disappointment but it was cool finally checking out the Bob Hope Theater. It was absolutely gorgeous on the inside. I’ll probably be heading back next month for a screening of Bullitt.

There was a guy there named Tim Donaldson, who played one of the Jawas when he was 5. He said he and several other kids from his school were chosen to be in the film. Apparently the film crew had to shoot a few insert shots in Death Valley. I think he said his father worked as a park ranger at Death Valley…not sure how the other kids got selected. He said he’s in one of the shots where Artoo is being carried to the sandcrawler. I also thought it was interesting that he said he was fitted for a Tuskan Raider costume. Makes me wonder if there was a plan at one point to film a sandpeople village or something. I think he must live in the Sacramento area; I’ve seen him at a few comic book conventions.

Are you saying that you didn’t read the July 5th post on this thread that told you that the '97 version was the one that the Fox Theatre was screening?

Seriously. I live in Sacramento, and I’ve never met anyone proud to be from Stockton.

So yeah, I drove an hour today to get to the theater, only to discover they’re showing the 1997 version. Disappointing, but not terribly unexpected.

That kinda makes me nervous. I just assumed it would be a film print, but maybe that’s naive of me.

Buzzfeed just reported that a script has been completed for a KOTOR movie.

Man, I remember being 8 years old in 1993, watching Star Wars on VHS. It always confused the hell out of me that the first movie was called Episode IV in the title crawl. Lucas is a madman.

Like…if you wanna do prequels, fine I guess. But do them like the X-Men movies did. First Class is a prequel, but nobody refers to it as the first X-Men film. Episode numbers just make things weird. It infuriates me when I hear about people who are new to star wars starting with Episode 1.

Without this site, I never would have discovered the Despecialized Editions, or any of the other Star Wars preservations. I really want to see the site continue on. I’d be down to contribute a monthly donation.

Finally got around to seeing this. It actually was better than I expected, though not without its problems. The movie is best when it just feels like a crime/heist movie set in the Star Wars universe. I found myself rolling my eyes whenever they decided to over-explain something (Kessel Run, the last name, why Han refers to Chewbacca as Chewie) I was impressed that this movie feels this coherent, considering all the behind-the-scenes drama. There’s some dumb stuff (Lando sleeping with his droid?) but I really enjoyed the train heist scene and the climax in Dryden’s office.

I’m still kind of on the fence about how I feel about Ehrenreich playing Han. Part of me just really doesn’t like seeing another actor portray such an iconic character. I guess for what it is, it’s fine. His performance didn’t quite win me over, but it’s not terrible. I was actually really impressed with Glover’s performance as Lando. Those first moments where he’s still off-screen, I can almost imagine Billy Dee Williams saying those lines.

I definitely didn’t love this film, but overall, I think it’s more competent than Rogue One.

Don’t care, won’t be seeing it.

Nothing I’m hearing about this movie makes me want to watch it. I think I’m done with Disney Star Wars.

Wow, tried watching the 4k version and my computer just about had a heart attack. Time to download the 1080p version…

Supposedly Darth Maul shows up as some kind of crime boss.

Is anyone going to get mad if I say who it’s supposed to be? I mean, if you’re really curious, just do a google search for Solo spoilers reddit threads.
