How I Would Edit SUPERMAN {Part 1} (workprint completed)
Time
For clarification, is this an edit of S:TM, SII, or a combination of both?

In any event, while I like what you've done with the Lester footage in correcting the nonsensical transformation of one building into another, I just don't like that Lester footage at all. The entire sequence always seemed a bit lame to me. Zod, Ursa, and Non break into the...council chamber and...break a crystal in Jor-El's console? THAT'S what they're sentenced to the Phantom Zone for? I'd much rather the description of their actions come from Jor-El's monologue. This sequence was never intended for II and was just Lester filler-footage to compensate for the lack of Brando, and is really quite a let down.

No, the orange juice was never mentioned in S:TM, being introduced in the "friendship" scene in Lester's II. Even though I still haven't seen the Donner Cut, I can assume this is another example of the Lois and Clark relationship being hurt by the anti-Lester editing. For all of Lester's inappropriate gags with the villains, he delivered some great Lois and Clark scenes, both at the Daily Planet and at Niagra Falls.

booah:

You make valid arguments against Superman Returns, but at the end of the day I still think we got a quality movie. Singer being such a Donner fan is a wonderful thing, although I'll admit he takes things a bit overboard at times. When promoting the sequel as "Wrath of Khan"-esque I can only hope he doesn't plan on using Zod yet again. That definitely would be crossing the line. So yes, more orginality on Singer and his writers' parts is in order, but I think SR accomplished what it set out to do: update the Reeve Superman franchise and bring it into modern times. Now that's been done, and I don't see why SR2 can't be one of the best Superhero films of all time.

Good to see you're "on the case," ADM. I would also like to point out I am a frequent lurker at the Superman Cinema Boards (although I've never joined) and I see you've expanded over to that forum. That place certainly has a lot of character, no?

Without responing to anyone in particular, there are a few things to consider before setting out on a "Superman II: Ultimate Edition." What I would like to see happen is while also making it a respectful sequel to S:TM, I'd also like to see it be able to tie into Superman Returns. Unfortunately Bryan Singer played fast and loose with the continuity, with things like Lex knowing about the Fortress and Lois' son assumably tieing-in to Superman II, but not quite. For example, when Lex activates the Fortress Kitty even comments on how he "acts like he's been there before." Yes, in Superman II. However when the Jor-El recording begins, Lex is apparently surprised that the hologram "thinks [I'm] his son." This is inconsistent, obviously. Then there is Jason White. We can all assume he was conceived in Superman II, as that is when Clark and Lois were intimate. However Singer seems to imply this occured in S:TM with the mention of the "I Spent The Night With Superman" article. That implication aside, assuming Jason was indeed conceived in SII, then wouldn't Lois have no idea why she is pregnant (seeing that Clark erased her memory)?

Ironically, this apparent inconsistency finally allowed me to come to terms with the "Superkiss" which I for so long thought was ridiculous. The way I see it now is that the Superkiss only erased Lois' memory of Superman=Clark Kent. We don't know how that powers works, so who are we to say that's not what happened? Don't ask me to explain it, but it is the only way to reconcile these inconsistencies.

Also, if possible, I think it would be great to include the green "master crystal" from I and II in SR. This could be achieved by coloring the crystal Lex uses green, and in fact would make the plot make more sense as that was the only crystal with the power to create land anyway. The rest were merely data crystals. I think it's a shame that Singer decided to do away with it because today's audiences aren't intelligent enough to tell the difference between that and Kryptonite.

What makes the time-travel bit just bearable in I is that it works emotionally, if not logically. Lois is DEAD, and an enraged, grieving Superman draws on some primal reservoir of superpower we're not sure he knew he had.

Yes. Exactly. You are so caught up in the moment and invested in Superman's emotions that the old reliable deus ex machina doesn't bother you at all. To COPY AND PASTE this into Donner's II, negating the ENTIRE FILM, is just plain silly. In I, it was a matter of minutes. In II, it's a number of days!

And even if you don't take S:TM and SR into consideration, the time reversal is a plothole because of the Diner. In Lester's II, the bully beats up Clark, who returns at the end to teach him a lesson. "Oh, I've been...working out." Great moment. But in Donner's II, no one should know who Clark is, as those events never happened.

Batman Beyond: It would be interesting to see what could be cobbled together from the remaining movies in an effort to make a totally new one. For now though I think our efforts should be focused on getting Superman II right, something the professional editors couldn't seem to do.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
*I really dislike the shot of the lizard looking guy with the red hat. It sticks out like a sore thumb, because it's obvious he's CGI, and he's just sort of sitting there by itself. It feels like he's removed from the action. If it were me, I'd actually drop this shot.
This was a SE addition that replaced the Wolfman, and as far as I know it is an actual costume. I never really cared for it either, until Adywan showed him "swallowing" his drink, giving him some much needed additional facial expression.

*The shot with the elephant dude is weird. He's a '90s Lucas CGI add in, right? Again, I feel like the shot is out of place, and I'd lose it.

This is another Wolfman replacement. Lucas really hated that guy apparently. Again I think he was a actual costume, not CGI. Not that I have a preference either way, but is it out of the question to insert the Wolfman back in?

But overall tweaker, I do agree that some of the aliens have a little TOO much movement, and their faces end up looking warped and elastic. I don't know if Adywan would be willign to go back and change some of this. If so, great. If not, it's still light years better than the original static masks.

Another bloody edit of TPM (* unfinished project *)

Maybe I'm just burned out from trying to map out this movie for so long on the Ranch, but I really don't see how you can remove the Gungan/Droid battle and still have a reason for the space battle. This gets even more confusing without the brefing scene, which in theory could be edited around mention of the ground battle. Don't get me wrong, I like the ideas here of reshuffling the Gungans scenes and omitting "I am Queen Amidala" all together, but I don't see how it is possible with the footage available. More power to you if you can figure all that out.

Yes, what is the condition of the Arctic Police scene? If it's cleaned up to be on par with the rest of the film then that would be a definite addition to give closer to Luthor and the villains. What I don't understand is Donner shot this footage, why was it not included? With Superman destroying the Fortress, its even more imperative we see that Lex, Zod, Ursa, and Non are not still in there when he does. On that note, why is the destruction of the Fortress even necessary? I know I have a lot to say for someone who hasn't actually seen the Donner Cut yet, but I've been keeping up with the reports.

Superman is right up there with my "big three": Star Wars, Star Trek, and Superman. I am equally obsessive about all 3.

I haven't gotten the Ultimate Collection yet, but when I do I will certainly want to be a part of any fan effort to make an "Ultimate Version" of Superman II. I'm very happy to have finally gotten the best possible Donner version we were ever going to get, but from what I've read about the new cut it doesn't quite hold up. And don't get me started on the RECYCLED ENDING. May the fan edits begin...

Amazing work, Adywan. What you did with the cantina aliens reminds me of what the Star Trek Remastered people did with the Gorn (but they were way too conservative with it IMO; they gave him eyelids but he only blinked 4 times!). I can't remember if you've mentioned this before, but will you be doing anything about Walrusman's severed arm? Removing the blood and/or making his hand match the longshots?

And the grey planet is defintely a better fit for the Death Star than the blue one; great sequence.

Keep up the great work!

Idea: Preserving STAR TREK - a preservation project?
Time
Those look MUCH better than what I saw. And in widescreen? Interesting.

So how do ya'll think this Star Trek Preservation should go about? Divide everything by series? That makes since at first, but there is so much out there on TOS (and TNG) that it wouldn't be very balanced. And frankly, I wouldn't be that interested in a Voyager-only disc.

...and all we get in return is a poorly done "enhanced version" that's becoming more and more like Georgies by the episode.
I actually like what they're doing with TOS Remastered. The difference here (from Star Wars) is that CBS is not supressing the original versions, as they have been released on DVD and are currently airing on 2 TV stations. If anything, I wish they'd go further with their alterations to bring TOS closer in line with the rest of Trek. We'll always have both versions, so what's the harm in seeing what all can be done?

I have a gag reel for ST IV and TNG on a DVD. Is it rare ?

I'm not familiar with the ST IV one, but is TNG's "Totally Naked"? I saw it on Youtube and found it pretty amusing, but it was in really bad quality. What's yours look like?

The 30th Anniversary Special deserves preservation as well, although I don't think it was ever released on home video like the 25th. And don't forget what was basically the 35th Anniversary Special, Jason Alexander's "Ultimate Trek: Star Trek's Greatest Moments." It's a shame that this year being the 40th Anniversary, there is no such celebration to speak of.

FanFiltration of the Planet of the Apes RELEASE THREAD (cancelled project - official product released)
Time
Wow, this sounds like quite the undertaking. It will be interesting to see how well the films mesh together. "Battle" has always been the weakest, but in becoming part of this mega-movie it might just work. I'm curious about the the way you're presenting the timeline though: will "Beneath" be the end of the film? I would assume so, but it seems you're telling Taylor's story in flashback, so does that mean Brent's as well, concluding when the apes reveal the Earth's destruction is what sent them back in time?

(You know, it really is amazing me that even though they destroyed the Earth, they managed to make 3 more sequels. PotA is awesome.)

Steve,

Do you plan on maiking any alterations to the ESB Emperor? Darkening the image or whatnot? I think a little work in that area could go a long way in making him less RotS and more RotJ-like.

EDIT: Okay I was just checking out your myspace (I don't have one myself), and I see "George Lucas" "Hayden Christensen" and "Rick McCallum." Now at first I assumed these were just people who used their names, but I do know of celebreties that use myspace. Reading their page its obvious that a lot of people THINK these guys are the real deal. Am I just being naive in thinking they possibly are who their name is?

Help Wanted: with my Episode II Edit's Opening Crawl....
Time
I really like the direction of this project (the crawls sound great), but seeing as these are rather ambitious ideas, how do you plan on working them into the actual film? I am in total agreement that the Republic's use of the mysterious army from Kamino doesn't seem all that reasonable, but how can you work around that when the "mystery" aspect of the Clonetroopers is such an intregal part of the plot?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - THE MOVIE - Finally finished
Time
I own KotOR, but never finished it. I plan to someday, as well as KotOR II (which my purchase of will be dependent on my completion of I).

This kind of thing is a great idea to share the game with non-gamers. It really is a great piece of Star Wars lore.

One question: The "main character", his lips won't be moving in the game, will they?
