Fanboy's Official TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES Fan Cut Thread (unfinished project)
Time
Wow, you guys really know your Terminator! You've brought up a lot of stuff I never even thought of before!

My feelings on the franchise are that T1 and T2 were a perfect series, and T3 screwed everything up. Sure it was great to get another Terminator, but it doesn't fit at all with the Cameron films. Rebel11_38, you have some awesome ideas that would not only be able to salvage T3, but improve the entire franchise! I really wish they would have filmed John sending Kyle back in time though, it would have tied everything together. For T4 I would hope they could get Michael Bean to reprise his role; I know he's 20 years older, but with the proper make-up, lighting, and clothing, it just might work. But who knows if they'd even follow up on that plot thread? All that aside, I'm really hoping for T4 now just so that "so crazy it just might work" idea of yours can be experimented with.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Don't worry about the deadline TM. For now it's good to have a tentative release date, but if you don't meet it, so what? It would be what, 2-3 months more tops? Being Star Wars fans I'm sure we've all learned the value of patience. Take your time to give us your best.

The "impact flashes" sound like quite an undertaking, but I'm sure along with all your other alterations they'll give everything a more realistic look. And since you've decided to address such a minute detail, I was wondering if you'd considered putting in comm mics on/off sound effects for clone dialogue. This was brought up before and I think it's an excellent point. Stormtroopers need those microphones inside their helmets to be heard, but apparently clones can talk REALLY REALLY LOUD.

I know music alteration is a big thing in SotDS, which IMO is one of its best aspects. Anyway, I was listening to "Rite of Spring" yesterday and it struck me how Star Wars-like certain pieces of it was. I had no specific thoughts on any scenes to use it, or even what parts to use, but was curious if you had taken from Stravinsky's work.

Superman Movie
Time
First off let me say I am a HUGE Superman fan. It's my 'thing' in my circle of friends. Almost all of us like Star Wars, so that goes without saying.

I'm of course excited about a new Superman film at last, but like everyone else, I have my reservations. As it stands now, the best things to come out of this will be the release of previously unseen Marlon Brando footage from Superman II. Most of you probably are not familiar with the history behind II; it's the ultimate lost superhero film, as the film we have now is NOT the way it was originally intended. If anyone's interested in in-depth detail on the subject, check out the Superman Cinema website. The hope is that the use of Brando will open all new possibilities for a much needed Special Edition of Superman II. So other than that, hearing John Williams' theme again, and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, there's not much to get excited about.

If I had my way, I would have ended Smallville this season with everyone graduating from high school and moving on with life, then picking up in a feature film "10 Years Later," with all the actors being the proper age for their characters at this point. It could even have an opening narration from Christopher Reeve from his episodes on the show. That's right, Chris Reeve was a fan of the show and appeared on it twice. Smallville supporters are fond of saying, "Christopher Reeve passed the torch to Tom Welling, and Bryan Singer put it out." I couldn't agree more. And regardless of tying-in to Smallville or not, it just makes more sense to start over with Superman, as opposed to Batman. Too bad we couldn't have had a reversal, with the Batman franchise picking up after Batman Returns, in which case Michael Keaton could actually reprise the role of an elder Batman. Instead we pick up after Superman II, a twenty five year old film. And the casting! Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane? Rose Byrne would have been a MUCH better choice IMO, especially since she looks a like a more beautiful Margot Kidder, the original Lois. I hope Brandon Routh can do the role justice, but he won't be getting any help from the costume. Batman's suit you can change and adapt, as he needs it to do what he does. Superman's is more of a symbol and icon; it requires no changes. But now it's maroon with a small rubber S, SHORT shorts, and a t-shirt collar. Sometimes I want to like this movie, sometimes I don't. The hype should be fun, I just hope the finished product can live up to it.

The Official Greencapt 'Batman & Robin: De-Assified' Edit thread (Released)
Time
You know, something like this really makes me wish Val Kilmer had returned as Batman. I've always liked Chris O'Donnel's Robin, in Forever at least. Everything went to hell in B&R, but now that it's been rectified somewhat, continuity of the dynamic duo would have been nice. Of course, the best case scenario would have been Michael Keaton and Tim Burton continuing the Batman series...

Star Wars: The Interactive Video Board Game (1996, Parker) (* unfinished project *)
Time
Thanks for the info, Erik. I knew nothing about the game, I just assumed it was set on the first Death Star since that article said they brought back the cinematographer from the original film. The pictures on the set do indeed look like the Death Star 2, but like Vader and the Stormtroopers, I thought they had just decided to use the most recent versions of everything.

Forget the Stormtroopers, what about Vader himself? He's in his ESB/RotJ/RotS suit; not the ANH one that's so different from the rest. Of course, this continuity error (in the films at least) could have been solved by using an ANH-style costume for his scenes in RotS. Anyway, I look forward to the availability of this. Maybe it should be a special feature on a future fan DVD set.

The Official Greencapt 'Batman & Robin: De-Assified' Edit thread (Released)

That was a clever easter egg at the end. I too got the impression, if this was a real movie, that it would be a good teaser for a sequel.

Again, great job greencapt; a nice (and rare non-Star Wars) addition to my ever growing collection of fan edits. I look foward to a Special Edition or any other projects you might do in the future. I have a feeling you'll be trying your hand at Batman Forever once the DVD is released...

The Official Greencapt 'Batman & Robin: De-Assified' Edit thread (Released)
Time
Watched it last night with my friend who is as much as Batman fan as I am a Superman fan; we make quite a world's finest combination.

I had little memory of the specifics of the movie, but my friend was quoting all the missing lines and scene; I had to insist he stop after a while. Overall it was a much improved film, though all the cut material makes several plot points quite confusing. Of course, the whole movie was pretty confusing in the first place, but in a worse way, so I guess it's for the better. The Alfred scenes, best aspect of the original version, are sorely missed, but I understand your stance with editing them; can you say contrived? Some things, although I don't remember how exactly they played out, would have been best left in the film; Batman and Robin's animosity over Ivy, and Bane. While there was no way to edit him out (and I get why you included him as little as possible), you could have used him a bit more. The whole thing with the Robin signal, for instance, makes no sense. What would've been the harm in incorporating all that together to explain it? Batgirl is a bit sudden as well; no explanation, she's just shows up and its on with the acition. To bad SHE couldn't have been edited out completely.

There are just so many good edits made, and other than the stuff I mentioned above, I agree with everything. The credit sequence was a good idea, and well executed. Here's a crazy idea though. Many cuts between scenes are awkward and sudden, which is to be expected, but I think what would really serve this edit well are some 60s-style scene transitions. I know you were going for the serious tone, but what do you think of this idea?

Wow! Top-notch Rebel11_38! Your contribution has already improved SotDS by allowing the crawl to be altered!

TM: I'm glad you decided to combine our ideas. The crawl sets things up so much better now, IMO. One last suggestion, though. You opted to go with "power" instead of "leadership" for Palpatine. I think "leadership" is the better word choice.

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
A couple of RotS thoughts I had today:

If there is any way possible to sync-up the audio with the video, the Anakin/Obi-Wan duel MUST be slowed down. Why they sped it up in the computer is beyond me. The footage in the "Return of Darth Vader" featurette was perfect. The rapidness of it all doesn't allow for the emotional ressonace of the ESB duel, for example. The Dooku duel is my favorite of the film, because while fast, it isn't flying by you at light speed and you can take it all in. Coupled with additional scenes of the duel on Mustafar, I believe this will improve the ultimate confrontation.

The shot of Yoda and Sidious rising up in the Senate Chamber had the potential to be as epic as the great pan-up in the Theed Reactor Room to the lightsaber duel. However, the shot was rushed and cuts to a close up before the phrase of the music ends. If this shot is slowed just the littlest bit, it will be infinitely more effective.

Yoda lines that must be cut:
"Not if anything to say about it, I have."
"...and not short enough it was."

(Good thing I revisted this thread today; it was two new topics away from oblivion.)
