A "Death and Life of Superman" trilogy with Jim Caviezel would have been awesome. Yes he played Jesus, so undoubtedly someone will make some wisecrack about it, but he really wanted the role until Singer decided to go young and cast Routh. Btw, there is no explanation of the ridiculously young cast other than they want to be able to make a franchise. Bosworth is by far the worst casting choice here; I would have much prefered Rose Byre, who looks like a young, hot Margot Kidder. I hope she proves me wrong, but I doubt it.

"Now we're two."

Of course DKR was better, but DKSA was still an enjoyable elseworlds sequel. It wasn't a Batman graphic novel as much as it was a Future DC Universe graphic novel that based itself off of what happened in DKR. I only have two real problems with it:
1) Dick Grayson. What the hell was that all about? Ruined the finale.
2) Catgirl. Not THAT big of a deal, but Miller should have kept her as Robin.

Same here. One of the weakest aspects of the film while serving as yet another throw away villain of the prequels. I have long been a supporter of Grevious=Maul, and being the great monitor of the fan edit threads that you are, I'm sure you've come across some of my ideas. Hopefully when the time comes to get to work on Episode 3 we can delve into this more thouroughly.

Idea: for an edit of Batman Begins
Time
I'm glad someone finally brought up Batman Begins, which I think is ripe for edting.

I've always felt BB's weakest aspect was its score. It's practically non-existent, and that two-note Batman theme just doesn't cut it. Ever since it came out I've wanted to suggest an edit replacing the music with approptiate selections from Danny Elfman's Batman and Batman Returns soundtracks. Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow might also come in handy in filling out a new score. I know many people will say, "The music is perfect, the old stuff wouldn't fit!" Many of my friends have told me that very thing, and maybe they have a point. But imagine the end of BB after Batman says, "And you'll never have to," and jumps off the roof accompanied by "Batman Theme Reprise" from the B89 soundtrack. Goosebumps. Anyway, this is a dream project of mine that's on my to-do list when one day I have the time and resources to make fan edits myself. Of course if anyone would like to try their hand at it in the meantime they'd get no complaints from me.

A chronological edit of BB as mentioned above would be interesting, though I don't think the narrative flow would hold up, it might be worth a shot.

While watching the Anthology and Begins DVDs over the past week another idea occured to me similar to what's already been suggested, but I'll have to give it more thought for discussion at a later time.

That's the first I've heard of the former. The latter is apparently the direction they're going with it, but Singer is adament the first two films are merely a "vauge history." Whatever that means...

Episode 3: Fan Editing Ideas Discussion
Time
ADM: Nice to see someone is already hard at work on this, and I like the general concept of the scene. However, as I'm sure you realize, some of it seems a little TOO cut-and-paste. That's the big challenge for anyone attempting this though. My favorite part would be, "Do you feel responsible? Finding him was the will of the Force. I have no doubt of that." I've always thought we needed some sort of reaction or admission of responsibility from Qui-Gon in regards to Anakin. That isn't what you've done but with a bit more editing the lines you've found could work nicely. I really can't judge this until seeing it, but you're certainly headed in the right direction.

*Raises Hand*

I know it's not THAT different from the aired version, just a few small scene extensions and different musical cues, but being a die-hard Trekker it would be an interesting oddity. And since you mentioned you had the DVD, would you able to make copies for your fellows fans? I much prefer hard copies to downloads, but if you can't I understand.

And I like the idea of Anakin calling out to Qui-Gon at the end of Sith would be an awesome parallel with ESB. For some reason, I was thinking you guys were talking about when Ben appears to Luke on Hoth, instead of when Luke was calling out to Ben on the Cloud City weather vane. Thought would be a great change.

Personally I was talking about both! There are parallels with both scenarios, but in particular Luke and Anakin's position as they lay dying in extreme cold and heat respectively. If Qui-Gon's spirit were to appear it would then mirror Hoth much more than Cloud City.

And I totally agree Anakin should disappear at the end of RotJ. Trooperman has said he has no plans to edit the OT, but maybe we can persuade him to make a few minor alterations for the good of the saga.

3. I'm not sure about cutting the communication, because I do think Qui-Gon is an important character and needs to be somewhat more involved, if he has retained his identity. But that's a VERY interesting idea, showing the ghost of Qui-Gon at the end of the film, almost like the end of ROTJ. That would tie things up very, very nicely. So what we would have in my PT is: Qui-Gon dies. Then, he helps Anakin destroy the Control Ship (like Obi-Wan in original SW). Qui-Gon doesn't have any contact with Obi-Wan (until the very end, when Obi-Wan sees his master at the end of the film), but Qui-Gon continues to be in touch with Anakin, through dreams and whatnot. This would make sense because he did this immediately after dying in Ep. I. Then, Yoda does NOT make the casual comment about communing with Qui-Gon. Qui-Gon simply appears to Obi-Wan at the end, kind of de-emphasizing the "learning" part of becoming a ghost and still retaining some mystery. What do you guys think? I'm very happy with this particular solution.

I see where you're both going with this, and I remember in Lucas' commentary he talks about editing the ending several different ways until he decided the lightsaber duel worked best as the final ending. Of course, it SHOULDN'T be that way, but of course in the actual film it turned out to be TPM's best aspect. When you think about it, Anakin destroying the ship and shutting down the army is the appropriate finale, as it was the real focus of the final battle (and as Sluggo points out was the way it was in the script). Does this mean we lose "Always be mindul of your surroundings," because I really liked that. And if you're going to try to add Qui-Gon's spirit to Obi-Wan's last scene, you should at least experiment with him looking down on Anakin's immolation in silence. I do much prefer this downplayed explanation, but we can delve into that more next year around this time.

It occurs to me you could just plug in the space battle during Obi-Wan's tale to Luke in his house. For example:
"Yes, I was once a Jedi Knight the same as your father."
Fade to RotS space battle.
"I wish I'd known him."
"He was the best starpilot in the galaxy."
Anakin doing incredible maneuvers.
They get to the Invisible Hand.
"And a cunning warrior."
Anakin and Obi-Wan destroy battle droids.
"And he was a good friend."
"I sense ___ (have to replace Dooku w/something)." "And I sense a trap." "Next move?" "Spring the trap."
Fade back to present.
"Which reminds me..."

I don't know if that's how you planned on doing the flashbacks, but I think a narration of sorts would make them flow very well, especially in this instance and during Obi-Wan and Luke's talk in RotJ.

He was out. He knew it, the catcher knew it, the Angels knew it. That's why he started going back to the dugout, but when the Umpire couldn't make a good call he figured he might as well giving it a try and it paid off. The Ump was just very confused and messed up both calls and signals.

We are on the same page InfoDroid. I've done a few editing projects myself with my limited means, and I too have found the most effective technique is to match up the visuals with the audio. If it's just right, it works wonderfully. If not, you think to yourself, "eh...almost." Trooperman has certainly gotten it "just right," and I'm sure when the sequence is viewed as a whole it will work wonderfully. This guy seems to know what he's doing.

This clip did bring something else to my attention. "Yoda holds you in such high esteem." Where does this come from? Surely Yoda hasn't been conferring with Dooku about his Jedi pupils. I'm glad they added some OT-style taunting in contrast to the silent duel of TPM, and there was even more in the script, but this line makes little sense when you think about it. I'm not suggesting to cut it, as it needs to be there to break up the fighting, I'm just pointing that out. What I think happened was this was to establish that Dooku knew who Obi-Wan was. He refers to him formally as "Master Kenobi," as opposed the the friendly nature of their previous conversation. On the AotC DVD it is mentioned that the Dooku/Obi-Wan scene was conceived late in production, as it had originally a mystery what happened to Obi-Wan. Dooku instead had a scene with Padme asking her to join the Seperatists, which is included as a deleted scene. Wisely Lucas changed things up and we got one of the best scenes in the film.

InfoDroid: If you go back through the thread you'll see that I have made many the same opinions as you in regards to the prequel music. My only concern would be direct tracking from other parts of the films; if we do that we fall into the same trap that Lucas' editors did in AotC, and to a lesser extent RotS.

I'm a very musical thinker and I don't want to be watching an intense lightsaber duel and suddenly hear a certain bit of the soundtrack and think, "I've lost Artoo!"
