It’s like “The extended cut is a privilege for those that cared to visit a 70mm showing, not for those with tiny screens and digital video equipment.”

But I did go see the roadshow (twice), and now I want to see it again, because the longer cut is the superior one.

Sadly, Tarantino doesn’t feel the same way, yet.

Wait, actually I think he probably does think the Roadshow version is better.

My response that “he doesn’t feel the same way” was to your “I want to see it again” part, not about whether the Roadshow was the superior one. My meaning was lost in communication.

Gotcha. Mildly frustrating fun fact: Tarantino has a 35mm print of the Roadshow cut in his personal collection, which he showed at his movie theater earlier this year.

So it doesn’t exist only in 70mm.

I’m going to undertake the “fixing” of this Russian version into a 24fps version with English audio. I intend to remove the hard-coded Russian subs.

Since I’ll be watching in 1080p, I’ll be making it in 1080p.

The plan is to replace the opening Russian titles with the English ones using the Blu-Ray. The scenes with hard-coded Russian subs will also be replaced with the Blu-Ray, but I will use Dr. Dre’s color matching tool to match the Blu-Rays colors to the 4K.

I might also throw the Overture on the beginning, because I happen to like the Overture quite a bit.

So, semi-related news: a 4K version of The Hateful Eight has leaked online. It’s reported as having a frame rate of 25fps, so it could be victim of PAL speedup. I’m don’t think it’s the longer cut, but I’ll report back soon with confirmation one way or the other.

After looking at screenshots of the 4K release, the colors on the 4K are much better (snow is white, for example). If it is indeed at 25fps and sped up, it might be worth slowing it down, even if it is just the regular cut (and it appears it is).

The FPS is fixed now, its a DCP rip

Why do all of the sites report it as being seven minutes shorter than it should be and 25 fps?

Just finished trying my first ever burn for SW 2.7 BD50 disc. Used Pioneer burner. And it worked! It had an error during verification in ImgBurn that said “recondition disc, un correctable error etc.” but it turns out the burn was successful 😃 thanks again njvc

Glad to hear it worked. I’m waiting to buy a few BD50s at the moment.

But I do have a question - where did the files all go? I only see the SW BD50 on Spleen right now. Where’s the rest of them? I thought I might pull a few down this weekend.

They’re all still there. Search “Despecialized” and you’ll come up with all of them.

It turned out that the French distributors couldn’t get the rights to release the 70mm version. That insanely expensive version, additionally, had the strangest extras: including a “signed poster,” with facsimile signatures.

Rumor had it, once upon a time, that there was going to be a silent Brazilian release of the 70mm version. Take that as you will.

That’s a real shame. I was really excited there for a second.

info Wanted: can someone fix some color issues dirt and black levels the new 30th anniversary blu ray of transformers the movie?

SHOUT! Factory generally does an excellent job with their releases that are sourced from new scans. Seeing as how they did a new 4K scan for this release, I would imagine the presentation will be great.

But I’ll repeat the sentiment from above commentors: Why do you think it will have the issues you mention?

Personally, I gravitate to the sets that are based around the vintage posters and/or McQuarrie paintings. I haven’t put a huge amount of thought into it, but whatever it is I’d like it to look like part of an existing set, which is why I bring it up here rather than immediately taking a crack at it on my own. I also figured I may not be the only one interested in the idea of including the '81 crawl, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get that thought out in the open. I probably won’t be burning these until ESB 2.5 is out and if I’m the only one interested I’ll fool around with it eventually myself, but I wanted to get the idea on people’s radar.

Might I suggest something based on this poster? this poster
