Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)
Time

WOW, what an incredible box set. Truly impressive. I myself constructed one based on ronlim’s set, just without some of the printouts.

I’m wanting to make a set for a friend, but instead of ronlim’s set, which uses three separate Criterion cases, I’d like to house it in a single blue triple case like this one: http://www.casetopia.com/Vortex_3_Disc_Blu_ray_Case_14mm_p/br3-vortex.htm

Has anyone created box art that would house these, with details that match the BD25 versions of the films (with no extras discs)? Really, any art that doesn’t mention special features beyond audio tracks would work, but I’m having trouble finding any. I might give it a go myself, if no one has made such a work.

Thanks for any help.

The priority is to release the International Cut, which is the version that has not seen an official home release since 1998 and definitely does not deserve to be forgotten.

Here are more comparison pics: http://imgur.com/a/eBJdO

This gives you an idea of the basic difference between MGM’s “teal” skies and what it looks like on the print. They also did some major color manipulation on the credit sequence.

Thanks for the info!

Man, that’s a shame. I haven’t had the chance to download the set yet, due to limited bandwidth, so I’ll have to track it down through this thread later this year or next year. I have just finished my cover and disc art for the set, though, and I’ll be uploading that most likely at the weekend.

Good work!

And I only just really became aware of this project. It’s a very interesting discovery this print and obviously your intentions are to restore the US cut.

So what to do with these extra pieces of footage?

Basically it seems the film could now be possibly complete now minus the 5 minutes scene in the Socorro Sequence.

That first deleted scene is 100% proper it’s not a deleted scene really it’s very good editing it feels like a mistake that it has been excised whilst the skeleton scene feels pretty rough and does not add much.

Although nobody has yet found those missing 5 minutes Socorro Sequence basically It does make you believe that it’s out there. Somone in Italy has it.

Do you have the Tuco torture scene undamaged?

Is there any plan for an alternative version other than US cut also?

I think the intention is to also release the cut that the print features, right?

EDIT: Well, based on the OP, maybe not. I was hoping for both.

Just a heads up that I will be removing the edits from MEGA in the coming days. If you are yet to download the set and would like to do so, feel free to PM me (asap), otherwise they will still be available via myspleen.

Thanks to everyone here who chipped in on these forums for your encouragement and assistance in getting these blurays finished. It was a pleasure working on them and sharing them with you all. Hopefully those that downloaded them have enjoyed what they’ve seen.

I’ve decided to retire from fan-editing to work on other things, so if anyone would like to adapt these blurays for future releases of the Despecialized editions, please feel free to do so with my blessing. But the simplest method would be to swap out the new video (when Harmy releases it) with the outdated version using multiAVCHD.

Thanks again, and best wishes,

njvc

Thanks for all of your hard work! It is SO appreciated.

I meant my spleen acct 😃 Or, more accurately, when I put my username and Firefox autofills my password, it won’t accept it; and the password recovery isn’t working for me.

It’s around, but under heavy load due to a 6w-long freeleech.

Did a second take on burning version 2.7. Much better this time around 😉

I plan on making a copy for my nephew when he turns 3 years old in 2018, just how my uncle made a bootleg VHS copy for me in the early 80’s (before the official home video for purchase came out). By then, maybe 3.0 will be out 😄

Just make sure your nephew owns the official Blu-Rays 😉

Looks incredible! Would it sync with the Blu-Ray audio, if an offset was used?

I asked that same type of question over on Spleen. Here’s the Q&A:

Wow!!! I’m so excited to check this out! Would it be at all possible to sync up audio tracks from either the WOWOW or blu-ray releases, via tsmuxer?

No, because there are splices and small bits missing from the print. Probably 15-20 seconds overall. We are hoping to raise funds to scan a second print to replace the damaged sections, and then include the various alternate sound mixes.

So, it looks like the answer is, “No, for now…”

Thanks for the info!

Just chiming in to say that I have unopened copies of all the widescreen VHS tapes, including the Special Longer Version (but not the regular, shorter cut). I’d be willing to pop those suckers open if you’d like.

You’ve got the SLV in widescreen on VHS? I thought it was only ever released in P&S on home video.

You are absolutely right, my mistake. For some reason I remembered them being widescreen.

Oh. I see, you downloaded a re-encode someone did to GOUT sync it, meaning synced with other audio files like those from Despecialized. From the sound of it they botched it. You need to search the Spleen for the first, official TN1 Blu-ray ISO. It should only have ONE audio track, but it will be in sync.

Thanks, Ill give it a look see. I did manage to correct the sync issue. I had to slide the audio by 2 frames to get it in sync. Id rather have the ISO though. Why is it that everyone talks about GOUT symcing? Is it just the best audio track thats available of the original? I dont think its available on mySpleen anymore. Hows it listed?

IIRC, the GOUT is the available version of the film with every known frame from it. So, by syncing every release to this, we create a standard of sorts, so that any audio tracks created (namely, all of the incredible tracks offered in Despecialized) can be used with any and all new versions of the films.

Crispin Glover talks to IGN about the themes of "monetary reward" in BTTF

I’ve always found Glover’s comments on the matter (including these interviews you’ve linked) to be seriously misguided, because I interpret the ending much like you do.

Edit: I will say, though, that the lawsuits that resulted from the reused footage and clever uses of doubles and prosthetics in the sequels led to important new rules regarding actor credits and rights.
