Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1

It had nothing to do with the BD. This was before that was out. He said that the film wasn’t being shown in English in his country, so he downloaded a cam so he could watch it at home with English audio. As in, rather than going to the cinema and watching the film legally (or waiting till a BD release happened to watch it), he obtained a pirate copy. That’s why Frink started calling him a pirate.

Ah, that makes a bit more sense. I think the “Original Trilogy-approved” solution would be for him to go to the cinema, buy a ticket, then torrent the cam and watch it just once.

That’s what I’d recommend, anyway.

english CamRip of TFA, which is Disney’s fault for not airing English version in my country.

Will Amazon not ship the blu Ray to your country either?

I have the bluray

Does your Blu-Ray have an English track?

I’d say as long as you own the Blu-Ray you’re cool downloading it. Kind of like our general rule of owning the Star Wars Blu-Rays before getting Despecialized.

Mike isn’t trying to create a faithful duplicate of the original. He is trying to restore the best picture that he can from the sources he has. He is basically doing what Lucas should have done in 97.

Right. And he’s doing so without a single frame or pixel coming from the SE. All of the pixels used to repair are coming from other original 35mm prints. I don’t think there is any question that it’s a restoration. I see how “preservation” could be more debatable and vague. But he’s definitely restoring Star Wars.

I think you’ve got the right idea. “Restoration” it is.

Hi there, this project looks beautiful, but I’m just wondering here… Is this a restoration or a reconstruction? And are you doing the other films in the OT?

Also, is Disney actually considering releasing this sometime in the future? If so, is there some sort of estimated date or can that not be revealed?

Sorry for asking so many questions, I’m just curious.

This restoration uses several original 35mm prints of the movie as its source. It is not a reconstruction like Harmy’s.

So i really like this film, but i am a bit confused on this project (and the fact that most of the discussion is about film grain didn’t help). You state that the primary purpose of the preservation is the 4-track audio. Is there any real point to scanning the film then, not just the audio? especially considering its state? i have it on dvd. just curious.

The point of this scan is two-fold: (1) To retrieve the 4-track audio, which is otherwise MIA for this movie, and (2) to have a better-than-the-Blu-Ray copy of the film, because the Blu-Ray is less-than-great.

No amount of nostalgia can change the fact that Jar Jar Binks stinks up the whole thing. A good fanedit or nothing at all IMO.

That’s, just, like, your opinion, man.

You obviously don’t know what IMO means. Also, you do realize that this forum is made up of people’s opinions, man, don’t you?

He was making a reference to The Big Lebowski. I think it was meant lightheartedly 😃

Ooooh, oops! And I consider myself a Big Lebowski fan.

Funnily enough, I’ve never seen it.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

Well, at least we know we won’t see a proper version within the year: http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/04/12/star-wars-original-trilogy-heading-back-to-theaters

I don’t see how one confirms the other.

I suppose it doesn’t necessarily, but wouldn’t if they were to release a restoration this year, why would they bother even showing the 97 version?

Mainly because it appears Alamo Drafthouse is showing 35mm prints of the '97 version, specifically, so I imagine they’ve gone to great lengths to secure these prints.
