I personally think it’s bullshit to say Ahsoka and/or Ezra survived because even though “I’m no Jedi” for the former, Ezra IS a Jedi. And that kind of destroys the idea that Luke is the Last Jedi. But I think it was bold enough already to kill two (one for sure) of the main characters.

Yoda’s dialogue in RotJ about Luke being the last of the Jedi still fits because as you stated, Ahsoka is not a Jedi and Ezra is missing. We don’t know where he is or his status. He’s simply not in the picture.

I disagree. Yoda and Obi-Wan weren’t in the picture in between RotS and SW, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t Jedi or anything like that.

Well we know Ezra is alive (based on Filoni statements, also so is Thrawn) but no idea what state he’s in. I’m imagining he’s sort of been out of commission in some way otherwise he’d have tried to make it back himself.

I definitely think there needs to be some explanation of what Ashoka was up to (and why, I suppose, Yoda felt they couldn’t rely on her).

Well, maybe she cut herself from the force, like Luke in TLJ, I don’t know.

On another note, these last few episodes also kind of talked about an issue I remember Neverar talked about in his TFA edit’s thread regarding hyperspace routes.

Apparently there are some huge literally space highways, the infamous hyperspace routes, and that’s why the Death Star didn’t hyperspace itself to the correct side of Yavin and why the rebels didn’t leave Hoth from the other side of the planet etc.

I enjoyed some of his stuff too. 😃

I think what your reply indicates generally is that people have made up their minds long ago and they haven’t been changed after 226 pages.

And why does my reply imply this specifically? There were a number of replies before mine. Should only those that are critical change their mind? Can’t we just exchange views without one side having to convince the other their view is the “correct” one? And why do you assume all my perspectives on this film have not changed over the course of these discussions? I appreciate some aspects of TLJ more now, but overall I still feel it is a bad Star Wars movie, which is a perfectly acceptable opinion.

It was just an observation and a fairly accurate one…that’s all.

You are one of a handful that are most vocal about your thoughts on the movie so that is why I chose to react to your post. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. I guess my feeling is that many of the forums that discuss whether people like or dislike a movie are generally moot because people just invest too much into their thoughts on a topic to have them changed…it happens rarely that someone comes in like yourself and is convinced the opposite.

Sorry for jumping in but I honestly feel like those who were trying to defend the movie were just as passionate about it if not more so than those criticizing it.

Happy to help! 😄 Nice to see such positive reactions, and that some of you spotted the necklace. I agree it’s not easy to see, but that felt like the natural spot for it. Might’ve looked awkward if it was higher up.

I thought that that was the point so I was looking for it - and that’s what left me astonished. You could’ve fucked up by tryin to make it super noticeable but it was perfectly and seamslessly inserted. I’m amazed.

And I’m not even going to start on the colors and contrast and how well it blends in with the rest. 😄

PS: Hal, any chance you remaster your PT saga trailer (that still gives me chills) with material from the new v5s?

This is getting worse. Everyone is fucking ignoring me and won’t respond to any of my messages. I don’t get it and I am so isolated from everybody.

I have no idea what to tell you… you come across to me as such an interesting and fascinating person that I’d love to be friends with that apparently I literally don’t understand. I hope you figure out what to do and that it works.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

I disagree. At the beginning of the thread I was, much like with TFA, desperately trying to love this movie. And while I do like TLJ better than TFA, I still prefer the OT and R1 over it. This thread made me see several PoVs I never would’ve seen and despiste of all the toxicity and shitstorm, it had some very healthy discussions.

I’ll say that I didn’t like several aspects of the movie (I felt 0 tension all throughout the movie 😮) such as the jokes and the direction they took and the world building and Rey, but I loved Poe (much like I loved him in TFA) I loved Holdo too and I loved some Luke scenes even if I didn’t like the way we got to said scenes. Didn’t mind Finn but was a bit annoyed by Rose at the end when she stopped Finn from sacrificing. Liked Kylo, thought they made Hux a joke unnecessarily.

Short answer: I didn’t have my mind made up from the beginning and I still don’t and this thread gave me fresh insights that intrigued me.

I am so confused and so conflicted right now. And because of that I might have taken the worst decision of my life. I feel like I want to blow up. I’m so frustrated, desperate, distressed. I hope things turn out to be ok. And I know my problem is extremely minor compared to most problems in the world and in this very thread, so sorry for “wasting your time”.

I think it’s a big misunderstanding to say that Kathleen Kennedy put that scene in the film but I’ve seen a few people suggest that. What Rian said was that Kathleen was interested in seeing Leia show force powers, it’s a stretch to believe that Kathy decided how they should be shown. She would leave the writing to the writer.

That section of the interview starts at about 19:20.

Nice that they gave her some Force-related scenes but they didn’t bother to make her relevant to the plot other than being an RotJ Ackbar-like character like in TFA (what I mean is: she’s the boss of the rebel band… and that’s it). These are the priorities.

Honestly, how is this a big improvement over RotJ? Or even the entire OT? Because Leia didn’t have a character arc in the OT other than a devolution of her character in the Jabba scenes (“Who cares about the galaxy? I must save my love interest!”). And the twist in RotJ had no impact to the story other than two bits of the climax (the Vader-Luke duel and solving the love triangle after the destruction of the second Death Star). And it’s quite sad how Han and Luke gets all the attention in the ST, even after leaving the rest of the galaxy at the mercy of the First Order, but Leia remains all the whole time, creates a paramilitary force and warns the New Republic and yet she’s mostly a background character in these movies.

Sorry, I’m really disappointed with how they have handled the female characters in the Disney movies. They’re not really a huge improvement compared with the Lucas era, other than being more in number, technically being the main protagonists and the lack of sexualization/forced romance.

I think Carrie Fisher is on record as saying that Episode 9 was to be ‘her’ film? (in regards of the 3 main OT cast… Han got most of the scenes in TFA, Luke had most of TLJ, and that IX would Leia’s) - obviously, and sadly, that is no longer going to be the case.

That’s what I’ve heard too. It makes sense to give them “one movie each” like that, since the sequel trilogy isn’t mainly about them. If the three of them had big roles in the same movie there would be a lot less room to develop the new main characters. It’s very sad that we won’t get to see what Ep 9 had in store for her.

I guess in the same way that SW was Obi-Wan’s, TESB was Yoda’s and RotJ was Vader’s.
