Ehm… https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/09/us/nra-sues-florida-gun-law/index.html

(CNN) - The National Rifle Association is suing the state of Florida after Gov. Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 7026 into law Friday, the first gun control legislation enacted in the state after the Parkland school massacre on February 14.

“This bill punishes law-abiding gun owners for the criminal acts of a deranged individual,” executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action Chris W. Cox said. “Securing our schools and protecting the constitutional rights of Americans are not mutually exclusive.”

I really wanted to go into the newest Star Wars movie spoiler free, but people on this site have been carelessly referring to the film’s title outside of the spoiler thread, and I consider the title to be a major spoiler. I also saw someone post the movie poster too, and that’s a huge spoiler. I actually saw part of the trailer on Youtube! Now that I’ve been exposed to so many spoilers I just don’t even see a reason to watch the film.

Preferably you should never know what movie you’re seeing or even that you’re going to see a movie. You just wake up one day and everything is dark and suddenly the Star Wars logo appears in front of you and the movie plays. Perhaps the logo should be removed though, to not spoil that it’s a Star Wars movie. In fact, remove all Star Wars tropes, change the actors and the names and the music. And then before the credits it’s written “actually, this was a Star Wars movie, bet you didn’t see that coming!”.

Sounds like a natural progression for Rian’s next Star Wars films.

Sounds like the PT, actually. The ST is basically a bunch of Star Wars-y moments and Star Wars tropes connected by a poorly conceived plot telling an almost interesting although pointless story.

The PT, on the other hand, is nothing like Star Wars with a poorly conceived plot telling a very very good story.

John Williams says IX will be his last.
Time

I’m a huge fan of R1’s score and think it is on par with the Williams’ ones. In fact it’s better than AotC, but imo worse than the rest. haven’t listened to TLJ enough to have an opinion on that compared to the rest but yeah, Giacchino is pretty awesome.

and I’m glad Mr. Williams decided to go out like that, and not by natural causes, as the latter would’ve been pretty tragic. this way he goes out with style, having scored the (entire?) episodic saga.

The Last Jedi : a Fan Edit <strong>Ideas</strong> thread

After seeing it for a second time, I am set on the fact that I will be doing a pretty comprehensive edit of this. The stuff I like in this film, hits on ALL cylinders for me personally. But the Canto Bight stuff just made me so angry this time around and the runtime of the movie did wear on me. What the Last Jedi needs is a tight and focused edit.

My full idea for the ENTIRE finn/rose subplot is the following:

  1. Finn says that they surely cannot get past the shield. Poe raises his head as if he has an idea. We get the Maz scene. I really don’t have any problem with this scene like others. Maz is shown to always be caught up in something. It further connects both films and we get a great joke for me where she kind of gets sexual and just makes everyone uncomfortable. This stays for logic sense and for my appreciation of it.
  2. Then we have our first scene of Canto Bight. I would cut down as many weird shots of aliens, champagne, and jokes as possible. Sadly, the public property joke has to stay since that’s the reason they get put in a cell. I also would cut the entire part where Rose talks about the fathiers. Overall, just making this scene as quick as possible.
  3. Once they’re in the cell, cut the joke about not needing DJ’s help. Like RogueLeader suggested, we cut from DJ walking out the cell and them following, to the ship leaving. You would flip the shot of Finn and Rose leaving the cell to show that they went the same direction and axe her line of “This way” so it feels less like they went on some detour and rather that they followed him. This would get rid of the entire fathier chase sequence.
  4. We next see them on their way back. This scene stays intact.
  5. After this basically everything would be the same except cutting the ironing joke and cutting BB-8 in the ATST. Also I would cut them riding on top of the ATST with BB-8 and after Finn defeats Phasma, it would cut to their ship escaping the burning hangar bay.

Hopefully this would make for a much shorter subplot. If there are any ideas to make an even more radically cut down version of this that sacrifices less screen time then I would love to hear it out. Anything to mitigate this part of the film.

Good points Dom and Rodney. Still, I find it illogical that Ahsoka wouldn’t be an active member of the rebellion and wouldn’t have any interest in talking to Luke or looking for him or something like that, especially because Ahsoka was so active in the formation of the rebellion and she is clearly a powerful light side user, so I don’t see why she’d simply go inactive.

And ok, maybe not a plot hole, but a huge question without an answer - and if we don’t get an answer it’s definitely going to become a plot hole.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

Possessed said:

My biggest hope for the audio is that adywan use the 1997 sound mix over the 2004 as the base in contrast to the first revisited. The 2004 for esb is fine but God is anh butchered. Yes he fixed a few jarring issues but the sound is flawed at its base. The dialogue sounds like every other line is from a different source. It’s overall sound is very brittle and dull. The only thing it has over the 1997 mix is it’s a bit more powerful sounding and it has a better lfe. But perhaps the 97 mix with the 2004 lfe could be used? And yes I know ady did numerous fixes and remixes to the sound but it still clearly resembles the dreadful 2004 mix complete with inconsistent dialogue quality.

Are the 2011 mix and the 2004 mix the same?

She abandoned the order before RotS by the way, and only because the order abandoned her first. And she was in the epilogue ICYMI, and I think the epilogue is set arount the time of RotJ, and she was doing just fine. I don’t think that she being trapped in Malachor is an excuse for her apparent uselessness during the OT either.

And I believe I had the same argument I was about to have with you in regards to your last paragraph in the TLJ thread with someone else. I don’t think it’s comparable. Not only that, but the point is that Yoda should’ve felt Ahsoka and told Luke something about her, and he clearly trusted her.

Now giving it some more thought, maybe she’d compromise Luke’s mission by giving him crucial information that Yoda didn’t want him to know, or something like that.

But I still think it’s bullshit - and I find it hard to believe that Ahsoka wouldn’t look for Luke after hearing that he was friends with Obi-Wan.

Ah, so many plot holes. Why not just kill her at the end of S2? It would’ve been much more powerful.

I personally think it’s bullshit to say Ahsoka and/or Ezra survived because even though “I’m no Jedi” for the former, Ezra IS a Jedi. And that kind of destroys the idea that Luke is the Last Jedi. But I think it was bold enough already to kill two (one for sure) of the main characters.

Yoda’s dialogue in RotJ about Luke being the last of the Jedi still fits because as you stated, Ahsoka is not a Jedi and Ezra is missing. We don’t know where he is or his status. He’s simply not in the picture.

I disagree. Yoda and Obi-Wan weren’t in the picture in between RotS and SW, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t Jedi or anything like that.

There were in hiding, not missing. Bail Organa knew how to contact Obi-Wan and did so when Mon Mothma requested (Rogue One). Never said Ezra wasn’t a Jedi. He is unaccounted for.

Eh, I don’t think he should be unaccounted for. Sabine, a presumably non force sensitive person, is going after him with Ahsoka’s help.

He would’ve been a great help for the rebellion and for Luke, and Obi-Wan knew him too. Obi-Wan knew Ahsoka too…

Well we know Ezra is alive (based on Filoni statements, also so is Thrawn) but no idea what state he’s in. I’m imagining he’s sort of been out of commission in some way otherwise he’d have tried to make it back himself.

I definitely think there needs to be some explanation of what Ashoka was up to (and why, I suppose, Yoda felt they couldn’t rely on her).

I agree with this. I don’t care that she’s not technically a Jedi, she’s still a decently powerful light-side oriented force user that could have conceivably helped Luke and the rest of the OT rebels. I think that warrants an explanation.

Yes, that’s what I was trying to say - and I think Ezra needs an explanation too.
