RotS is fifth because I never had to accept the PT like most of you here, and because of that I feel like I’m more open to appreciating them.

I have zero idea what this means.

I never had expectations. I was never left feeling very underwhelmed by those movies. They were always part of SW to me. They always gave me a very different feeling than the OT, a feeling I now know to be slightly worse, but just slightly. So, since RotS was always there for me, I think I’m more open to appreciate it than I am to appreciate TFA for example, since I saw TFA in theaters and had expectations and was left underwhelmed, etc.

Does this make sense?

It doesn’t make sense to me because the movies are all objectively terrible and it doesn’t matter if you had any expectations or not.

I don’t think they are objectively terrible at all. In terms of critics, the consensus tends to be that RotS > AotC > TPM. Apparently out of the 6 Lucas films, RotS was the 2nd best reviewed upon release. I don’t think that makes it objectively terrible.

Most Disappointing / Satisfying Aspect of the Sequel Trilogy?

Most disappointing is the decision to go back to a ragtag rebels versus oppressive empire style of story. It would have been much more interesting for the remnants of the Empire to be the small guerilla group fighting the established New Republic.

Prequel Trilogy: Good Overall Story, Bad Characters
Original Trilogy: Good Overall Story, Good Characters
Sequel Trilogy: Bad Overall Story, Bad Characters

SW is first because, well, I just really get a lot of pure enjoyment out of it.

The same goes for TESB and RotJ, but to a lesser extent, thus the second and third places respectively.

I placed RO fourth because the feeling it gave me was a hybrid between the OT and the PT, and I really loved a SW movie that wasn’t centered around the force and lightsabers and jedi and stuff. I just enjoyed what RO did, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoy the OT, so fourth place.

RotS is fifth because I never had to accept the PT like most of you here, and because of that I feel like I’m more open to appreciating them. The shitty acting was never really noticeable because I used to watch every single movie ever either dubbed or subtitled until 4 years ago. And, amazingly, I don’t mind the CGI at all.

TLJ is sixth because it’s such a beautiful movie with moments as Star Warsy as they get brought together by an imo pointless and not well written plot. Hamill is also completely amazing and his performance alone makes the movie worth watching.

AotC is seventh because… I don’t know, I just enjoy it. Hal’s The Approaching Storm makes me appreciate it even more. I enjoy it for being boring too - a story that’s linked to war and has lots of (easier to understand when compared to TPM) politics but isn’t actual open war. Also I enjoy romances, and this movie certainly has a lot of that. Again, I don’t mind the negatives as much, and just enjoy it.

TFA is eighth because I just think it has a recycled plot with a slightly different story with one boring and overpowered and one underwritten protagonist, with a really really cool antagonist, the movie’s strongest point. I remember leaving the theater feeling completely underwhelmed and thinking that there had to have something wrong with me - only to realize a couple of months after, after rewatching the movie several times that I don’t like it at all.

TPM is just boring as hell, extremely stupid with stuff like Jar Jar and Darth Maul and Ric Olie. A bad movie, one that I get no enjoyment out of at all.

why is that? i used to be anti-apple until a few years ago (i’m still not a fan of mac) but i now use an iPhone and have an iPad. most of my posts are actually from the iPad or the iPhone (even though i’m posting from the pc right now), and i quite like them. the phone’s battery isn’t nearly as bad as i was led to believe it would be and the phone is definitely smoother than most android pohones.

I’d have to agree, Kylo Ren is the best thing about the sequel trilogy.

I suppose the most disappointing thing about it is that I’m still not convinced this story needed to be told.

Does any story need to be told?

if the ST was better told i’m sure we wouldn’t be seeing comments such as handman’s quite as often. take TESB - it didn’t need to be told either, SW is a complete and self contained story. but TESB did such a fine job that no one cares if it needs to be told or not.

Rey is by far the most disappointing thing in the ST to me. DSIII is a close second.

Devil’s avocado!

While the character of Rey is a bit underwritten and a bit too perfect, Daisy Ridley is so charismatic and her performance is probably my favorite aspect of the sequel trilogy.

i know i’m in the vast minority here but i don’t like daisy’s performance in any of the movies at all. sure it was infinitely better than anything in the PT except for maybe some liam neeson bits here and there and some highlights from mcgregor, mcdiarmid, portman and christensen (mostly in RotS) but yeah, it’s nothing special imo.

that said, she’s extremely charismatic, which is why i still wanted to have hope that Rey would be redeemed for me in TLJ, which didn’t happen. i didn’t buy the balancing the force explanation for the ease of her progress in force abilities, and that made TLJ feel very underwhelming to me. if rey were a better character, i’m sure the ST as a whole would be a lot more interesting to me.

i forgot to mention my favorite part: poe, and luke comes as a close second (and i am far from being his characterization’s biggest fan)

what showed me that ridley wasn’t as amazing to me in TLJ is that hamill made me by a character i didn’t like, while she didn’t.
