Twilight, Transformers, Batman & Robin

I never watched the first two (and never will), so I can only take your word for it. As for B&R, I'd say it's just about equal to the PT.

As bad as those movies are, they are still way better than the PT.  At least they have scenes that actually feel genuine with proper pacing and decent acting.  The PT was a failure on every level and has no redeemable qualities whatsoever.

So, allegedly KK asked to delay the release until 2016 but was denied.

I hope this isn't the case, but this is exactly what I was afraid of when Disney purchased LFL.  The last thing we need is for Iger to rush the movie into production when the script isn't even finished.

True, but one could say that a little pressure sometimes makes wonder. I mean: without any sexual double meaning... okay, Frink? ;)

I'm sure Abrams and Kennedy are feeling plenty of pressure as it is.  I just want them to have plenty of time get the script right.

Have you seen Toy Story 3? Or Little Miss Sunshine? Anrdt seems to be a great character writer, which may be just what the new SW needs.

True, although it's important to note that Toy Story 3 was a huge collaborative effort (as were all of the earlier Pixar movies) that took over three years and dozens of scripts to arrive at the final story.

A whole new story? But aren't they contractually bound to follow Lucas' treatments?

The new story thing is probably just a rumor, but even then, I haven't read anything that indicated that there were stipulations in the contract about those treatments.  They completely own Star Wars now, and I assume they can do whatever they want.

FYI Mac users: to extract the files you want in order to make a blu-ray disc from an MKV was something I hadn't done before but a little research and I found MKVtools which can extract what you need before remuxing using tsMuxer to create a blu-ray compatible folder.

I had previously only used MKVtoolnix for remuxing MKVs but had never considered creating a BD from the files contained within. I had read that people can use MKVtoolnix to demux and then also create a BD compatible folder but I think you need certain compatible GUIs that only appear to be available for Windows as neither of these options appear in the Mac version.

You learn something new every day!

Thanks for the info.  Was just about to research this.

It seems that George put a year or so into planning what comes next...

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/29034/lucas-put-a-year-into-the-next-star-wars

I have no problem with Lucas writing the outline or the general story for the ST, as long as he stays away from directing and dialogue.

Michael Arndt is writing Episode 7, while JJ Abrams is directing Episode 7, and Lucas is more involved in the macro part of Episode 7 laying the ground work for the Trilogy.  That worked best in ESB, where Kasdan wrote the script, Kershner directed the movie, and Lucas created the overall outline of the movie.

I only wish Lucas would have done this with the PT, and it would have been much better.

But it wasn't just the directing and dialogue that was bad about the PT.  The decisions that Lucas made with regard to the story and characters were simply baffling. So the fact that he spent a year working on the EPVII story doesn't exactly fill me up with hope.

Also don't forget about the last movie in which Lucas only wrote the story and then handed off to a script writer... Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Now obviously He had more influence on that movie than he will EPVII, but the fact that Lucas is "constantly talking to J.J." according to Jett Lucas, is a little discomforting.

We all know that stand-alone Star Wars movies are a done deal (Like it or not) so what do you want to see???

Think of how cool a Boba Fett movie would be if it was more or less like an intergalactic version of last year's Dredd (without the blood obviously/unfortunately).

I'm kind of dreading the inevitable Boba Fett film.  They already ruined him in the PT.  If George wanted Boba Fett in the prequels, then he should have just used Boba Fett - no need to ever unmask him and ruin his mystique.

But if they absolutely have to make a BF film, then a "Dredd-ish" type movie could actually end up being decent.  But I doubt we will get anything like that.  I'm sure it will be an origin story.

I hate prequels (and this is not the prequels, but generally prequels). I think direct prequels to something is a dumb concept and is bound to disappoint at least to some degree. By trying to explain some characters origin and backstory, one is potential ruining its mystique and on top of that competes with the audience's imagination.

Exactly.

A Han/Boba/Yoda origin story is a horrible idea, but we all knew this was coming when Disney said they were going to do spinoffs.

Nope, no way they release it in April.  May has traditionally kicked off the summer blockbuster season and Disney will certainly want to release it during one of the peak box office revenue periods.

Also the new Avengers logo released at comic con just said "Summer 2015" so they may push that back for a May release of ep VII like they originally said they were shooting for.  Or they could release one on May 1st and the other at the end of May.

It's not finished yet.  I would imagine it will be done sometime next year.

Here is the thread.
