4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

I went through that site shortly after seeing TFA just out of curiosity, and I was shocked to find out just how much of the movie had been leaked. He posted a pretty detailed description of the Han death scene in February of 2015 and then by May, they had pieced together almost the entire plot with descriptions of all the key scenes.
This gives me hope…

Just to put in my two cents. I watched the Technicolor version sample that you posted and found the contrast and saturation levels to be pretty jarring. Watching it just did not feel right to me and I thought 3po was too vibrant and there was too much detail lost in the blacks. Would much prefer one of the compromise versions that you posted earlier

Here’s an update on the color grading to remove the remaining green/yellow cast:

DrDre, everything looks pretty great so far, although I was wondering about this shot. Most of the stars here appear to be crushed out. Is that just a by-product of the degraining process? The star field is slightly more visible on the non-DNR video sample, although it is still not as visible as the Silver Screen Edition, just for comparison, so I was also curious if perhaps the contrast needs to be dialed back a bit.

I know this is still a work in progress, so again, just wondering…
Thanks!

We’ll start a new thread for the Eastman vs Technicolor version when we are ready to discuss more about it.

Team Negative1

Right - we have to finish the LPP first!

Edit: But I will add one more teaser, just for the OT crowd.

This video was produced using this technique (plus a little post processing to clean it up a little more), and it only took about a week… It has not been color corrected.

Ok, this just got me excited, and I was already pleased with the first release. Looks great!

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

Is anyone else concerned that apparently the reason why the reason they are already narrowing down the casting is for a cameo in Rogue One? I don’t see where Han Solo would fit into a story revolving around stealing the Death Star plans.

I think one way it could work if it were just some sort of post credits scene where we see the Falcon approaching Tatooine and Han talking to Chewy about the shipment they just had drop and trying to figure out how they were going to pay back Jabba who would surely have bounty on him by now. It could then show them deciding to head to Mos Eisley to hopefully find some work. That would actually be kind of a cool lead up to the OT and as a post credits scene it wouldn’t feel shoehorned into the movie.

Yep, but that’s what you get with Disney. They cross market everything and try to tie every single movie together by shoehorning in characters and plot points to help promote their next giant blockbuster. The actual story and quality of the films will always take a backseat to their marketing timeline.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

I'm going to try to stay away from the trailer.  I've been trying to avoid spoilers but i already know much more than I'd like.

And I dont understand the people who have been trying to learn as much as they can about the story.  I've found that it's always best to go into a movie knowing as little as possible so you can just simply let the story unfold on its own.

It's going to be hard enough to watch this movie without being constantly distracted that I'm watching a "star wars" movie and scrutinizing every little detail about it....
