Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

So, I was just doing a little research about the various soundtracks (as I am not very knowledgeable in this area) and was just curious about the 93 LD stereo mix.

As I understand it this was modified somewhat from the original 77 stereo mix?  Is there a list or thread here detailing the differences?

*edit - reading through Hairy_Hen's 70mm 5.1 thread and found some additional info regarding the 93 mix.   Should have posted my question there.

Harmy's SW 2.0 is WAY better than 1.0, and it's not even close.  But, yeah it might be a while before he finishes Empire and Jedi, so you might want to just give 1.0 a try on those two.  He is actually finished with Star Wars 2.0 and it is rendering as I type this, so we are only days away a release.

Yes, Harmy's despecialized (especially the new 2.0 version of SW scheduled to release in the next week or two) is an absolute must in my opinion.  It is based from the official Blu-ray and then re-color-timed to more closely match the theatrical version, so the overall picture will be significantly better than DJ's.  For the "despecialized" shots he used a variety of sources, including the GOUT and then cut them together as seamlessly as I think is possible. The result is very impressive, and this will be the version that I will probably watch most often.

And not to take anything away from DJ, as they have done a fantastic job of improving the GOUT.  Also keep in mind that DJ is releasing a new blu-ray version this year which will have improved color-timing/picture/audio compared to V3.

Other than those two, negative 1's 35mm preservation is definitely one to watch for this year, so keep your eye on that thread as well.

Well said, You Too. I've been very impressed with the improvements you guys have made since V3 and can't wait for the new one.

So speaking of Empire and Jedi, what sort of theatrical color references are available for these?  Is the GOUT fairly accurate or is there even any way to know for sure?  Just curious.  I've seen various discussions on Empire and the question of how "blue" Hoth is supposed to look, for example, but didn't know if there were any reliable sources like the SW tech prints.  I assume it would be from a variety of sources like the GOUT, PSB, 35mm scans, etc?

Harmy, i like it!

Yeah, i think if you just fine-tune it a little and possibly make the animation a little more subtle, it will look awesome.  Personally I would slow it down a bit and I would probably choose the "Force Theme" to play over it, but that's just my personal preference.

But I definitely like the look and idea of this a lot.

*edit - nevermind about the speed, just saw your last post

The stills I've seen from the last two films look like they just went full-on kids' cartoon for him - flipping around, twirling lightsaber.

So, you never saw the last two?

Apparently we haven't been properly introduced.  ;-)

I did not.

ok, so I guess I missed something.  I'm relatively new here, though.

Using tsMuxer, and provided the video stream is compliant (1280 x 720, or 1920 x 1080) it is a relatively easy process to remux the streams into a blu-ray folder.

Thanks!

Although after testing the program, I'm currently getting an error message when I try to import an mkv file.  I did some research on this and its a common problem.  I just deleted the two Korean fonts as instructed but that didnt work, so now I'm going to try to clear the font cache and see if that does it.

I got the links to the final workprint (thanks harmy!) but I'm having trouble with a few of the parts. JDownloader can't seem to connect to parts 7, 10 and 12. It keeps saying "Hoster Problem?" and if I try to download the parts directly, I get 502 Gateway errors. Did anyone else have problems downloading any parts?

I'm getting the exact same thing right now on those three files.  Not sure why.

*edit - working now.

Its a terrible tragedy. Some of the media over here have already been blaming the Batman franchise as they have been reporting that he had his hair dyed red and that he was calling himself the Joker. Maybe they should get their facts straight before trying to make something else out of this. They latch onto one little detail like the colour of his hair and blow things way out of the water, especially when the Jokers hair is green.

Well, that's just what he reportedly told the police - that he was the joker.  who knows...

I did tell DJ that he's been unbanned. He's just been busy with work and stuff.

We're still working with the frame cleanup, though it sure takes some time. And considering I've been a bit ill lately, things have been going a bit slower.

So while I don't have much news for you guys, I can tell you that at least some of the color errors in SW have been dealt with:

For the first shot I got the correct hue from another scene on Tantive. Since the Tantive scenes are a bit low on reds, making Vader's belt really pure green wouldn't be consistent with the later scenes' look.

For the Death star scene, I got the correct hue from one moment where Vader turns left and the left side of the belt has it's green preserved.

Weird stuff really, these errors.

Man, I don't know how you managed to squeeze all that color out of the gout, but that looks really good.  Big improvement over V3.
