Here's a cool promo on the Jaws restoration for the upcoming blu-ray release.  I assume that is film guard they are using in this video?

Nice to see a studio actually treating a classic film with the respect that it deserves.  They are doing a similar restoration for the Indiana Jones Trilogy.

Only Raiders got the full restoration treatment alas. The upcoming blurays apparently use the 2003 HD transfers (used for the DVD sets), with a bit of digital tinkering, for TOD and TLC.

The Jaws restoration looks amazing from the HD clips I've seen. Ditto for Raiders too.

Oh ok.  I remember seeing a video about Raiders, and I assumed they were doing it for all three.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I would say to throw out distracting anomalies like that and make the shots fairly consistent.  Doing so would not compromise the integrity of the original and would make for a better viewing experience as the viewer would not be taken out of the film.  I think we all are going to be very aware of color issues, much more than viewers were in 1977, so my vote is for the top image.

Also, I believe this is the path you took in the Tantive IV scene when one of the shots was considerably greener than the other shots?

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

These are awesome! But how can we tell the difference between the different "versions" of the Harmy Despecialized releases?

Sorry if I missed that...

Well, he has only released one version so far.  Star Wars 2.0 is due out this summer (and it's a huge upgrade over 1.0) and then he will do Empire and Jedi sometime after that.

What Dark Jedi and You_Too have done with those 2006 dvds is pretty impressive.

And yes, you definitely need to check out Harmy's when his V2 comes out. He has been releasing workprints periodically, and it looks fantastic.  He has done a great job at recreating the theatrical version and has seamlessly blended his various sources together.  I suggest reading through the last half of his thread, and you will get an idea of just how much work goes in to these preservations.

Hey Brooks.

Here are a couple that you can't go wrong with:

1. Harmy's Despecialized V2.0 - this is not finished yet but Star Wars will be available this summer.  This is a theatrical recreation sourced mainly from the blu-rays and various other sources.  There is already a V1.0 that came out last year, but you should definitely wait for V2.0.  It looks light years better.  This may also have the most accurate color timing of any other version as well. Empire and Jedi will come later.

2. Dark Jedi's Original Theatrical Trilogy - These are based off the 2006 theatrical dvds.  Version 3 is available on myspleen, but keep in mind, they are also working on a new and improved blu-ray version which is supposed to be a big improvement.

both of these threads are on the first page of this forum.

Wow! A real home theatre! Can't wait to see the photos. And... audience as a plus?

(Sorry for off-topic) Yeah, I think I could include a couple audience shots. I've talked at length with a few of my wife's uncles (movie night regulars) and they love the idea of a 'theatrical' Star Wars movie viewing.

We don't have stadium seating (yet?). Couch can seat 4, LoveSac 2-3, we have some comfortable (believe it or not) cushioned folding chairs for 4-6 people. Usually about 10-12 people come to movie night, last weekend we watched Alien.. good times.

sounds awesome.  me and by buddies have been having a weekly movie night since 1998.  We have a very complicated system by which we select the movie each week, and then we keep a log of every movie we watch.

Star Wars 1313 Discussion

Hmm... Just looks like Drake's Fortune in space. Not really as innovative as the people in the video make it out to be. I'm also pretty concerned that it will still have way too much prequel influence for my taste.

Still, I'm cautiously optimistic that just maybe it'll be worthwhile. The last SW game I played was the Battlefront series, and even those were only avg. IMO. I'd love a really great SW game set in or near the OT again!

Yeah I try to pretend the prequels don't exist so having a bunch of battle droids or clone troopers running around would definitely spoil this one for me, haha.

My favorite games are ones that allow freedom to explore or choose my own missions (Red Dead, Skyrim, Mass Effect) so I've always wanted a Star Wars game where you can free roam different environments, fly to other galaxies whenever you want, etc.

A pre-Star Wars Han Solo game like that, for example, would be pretty sweet, imo.

Obviously 1313 doesn't look like this but I'm still interested in checking it out.
